It’s all about the legacy this week, as Mike and Andrew pull deep from the well of 1990’s comics to reveal an insidious plot to replace all our heroes with younger, more relatable, more marketable heroes. Kyle Raynor replaces Hal Jordan in Green Lantern #51, Bart Allen arrive from the future in Flash #92 and the Fantastic Four are usurped by people Art Adams likes to draw in FF #348. Do these relics of the 90210 era hold up? Or are they as irrelevant as the New Kids?

Given that Micheal Bailey was doing nothing with it, we decided to steal his idea – hurrumph, pay homage, by devoting a number of weeks to that most maligned of decades – the 1990’s. Kicking off with three of the most successful comics ever published, the Million Selling Spider-Man #1 by Todd McFarlane, X-Force #1 by Rob Liefeld and X-Men #1 by Jim Lee. Hateful bygones of an era best forgotten? Or not that bad, really?

It’s the end of the clone road as Micheal and Andrew look at the final chapters of the original Clone Saga, Amazing Spider-Man 147-150. However, this was NOT the end and so, in an effort to make sense of it all, they even read PETER PARKER THE SPECTACULAR SPIDER-MAN #25-31 to investigate the mystery of Carrion. Then they get caught briefly in the EVOLUTIONARY WAR, before SPECTACULAR SPIDER-MAN #149 takes one last attempt to tie it all together. Are we left with a coherent narrative? What do you think?

It’s more clone madness in the 2nd chapter of Andrew & Micheal’s return to the 70’s Clone Saga. See Mr Peter Parker go all the way to France to meet Parisian Super Villain – CYCLONE! Witness the arrival of Gwen Stacy, the Dolly The Sheep of the Marvel Universe. Gape as The Scorpion doesn’t do very much. Dig out AMAZING SPIDER-MAN # 143 – 146 and read along.

In an epilogue to Those 70’s Show’s, Micheal & Andrew follow up on the death of Gwen Stacy with a look at the 1970’s original Clone storyline. Before it was a ‘Saga’, it was a simple editorial edict – Bring Back Gwen. Amazing Spider-Man #139 – 142 are the beginning of this epic run and we’ve read them all. So put your feet up and relax as it’s yesterday once more.

Does it live up to the previous two editions? Well, I’m sure you have your own opinions but these are ours.

It’s the D-List Justice League! It’s the Suicide Squad! It’s a All-New Flash! And witness the first appearance of WONDER WOMAN! Yes, LEGENDS shows us how crossovers were done in the 1980’s. Turns out – not so different. LEGENDS 1-6, read, loved and loathed with the same fervor as FOREVER EVIL.
