  • EP0121 FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 23 2016 - RIVERSIDE WEEKEND
Hey Riverside! Podcast 0121: Riverside Weekend series with Ralph Torres and Patrick Maloney, September 23, 2016. Ralph and Patrick kick off the weekend with the return of the Hey Riverside pop-up to the Magnolia Center Marketplace...they'll be hosting musical guests Tori Fleming, Cris N Ramos, and Cadillac Phil at 6, 7, and 8PM, respectively! The Riverside Mariachi Festival returns to Fairmount Park for a day of music and celebration. Also this weekend is an all-day celebration of California Indian Heritage at the California Citrus State Historic Park. Live music begins to creep into more neighborhood venues with local lineups coming to at least two Riverside breweries. And speaking of great live music, the vivacious Soul Shake brings their vintage R&B review for a rare Riverside appearance at Law's. Later in the week the new Coil School for The Arts presents world-famous classical guitarist Scott Tennant...and RCC's Dixon Planetarium continue their run of public Thursday night presentations. Really though, we're only scratching the surface of all there is going on in town this week - you have to click through to see it all!

  • EP0120 SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 17 2016 - RALPH AND PATRICK TALK MEASURE Z AND HOMELESSNESS
Hey Riverside! Podcast 0120: Ralph and Patrick talk Measure Z and homelessness in Riverside. From Ralph: This week's taping was a hoot. Patrick and I have both been busy apart from the podcast and we didn't do our usual Monday update show...turns out we were pretty fired up by the time we got around to the Weekend show on Thursday so I split it into two Episodes. Here's the deal: City Hall is getting a little out-of-hand lately. Maybe it's just that we're paying closer attention...but this canned, scripted proposal of a new 1% city use/transaction tax (it follows you and your purchases outside of the city) is an excellent example of a con$ultant'$ dream. You're paying a third-party to write convincing copy to talk you into giving the city more cash for...um...nothing that they can specifically promise or guarantee. Wow. Now: let's take a look at the creative legislating that's not aimed at the homeless. Apologies to the excuse-makers but we're well aware of how some of our representatives consider the people in our community who can't or won't manage to play the game to make rent. We love this town enough to know that pushing people from one place to another isn't even a first step toward a just solution to our homelessness problem. Citizen voters, we can do better. More to come...

  • EP0119 FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 16 2016 - RIVERSIDE WEEKEND
Hey Riverside! Podcast 0119: Riverside Weekend series with Ralph Torres and Patrick Maloney. Welcome to one of *two* episodes we're editing from this week's taping (Episode 120 is all about Measure Z and a cold new ordinance passed by the City Council earlier this week - don't miss it). The big cheese of this weekend's events is the Riverside Art & Music Festival which features locals Castle Pines and Naive Thieves (but alas, no local headliner). Stargaze indoors at RCC or outdoors at the Heritage House's Chinese Moon Festival. Our friends at the Riverside Airport host a huge craft beer fest presented by Inland Empire brewers and the Mary S. Roberts Pet Adoption Center has their 19th annual Comedy Night fundraiser at the RMA starring Tom Papa. Magnolia Center Fridays bring the Marketplace on Sunnyside Drive...a great place to spend a sunset and where you'll be seeing Hey Riverside return next week. It's all just getting started...get in and hold on tight!
