On this day in 1900, Queen Victoria set sail for Ireland on what would be the final visit of her reign to Ireland.

By then, there were changing attitudes towards her, to put it lightly, and the visit was defined by friction as the Victorian Era was coming to its end.

But what brought her to this side of the Irish Sea for one last hoorah?
