Bronson Kaufusi and MattyP are back with Part 2 of Jason’s recent lecture on tax strategy!
In part 2, Jason dives into the benefits offered by claiming the Real Estate Professional Status (REPS), and explains how active REPS status vs passive REPS status changes how depreciation loss works. He also covers the strategy behind converting traditional 401K and IRA funds to Roth Retirement Accounts without paying taxes on the conversion. He also touched briefly on 1031 Exchanges, Opportunity zones, and Primary Resident Tax Exclusion.
This lecture was centered on a concept best said by Tom Wheelwright.
“The government doesn’t want you to pay taxes. The government wants you to invest in things that create jobs, that create wealth, that create prosperity. And one of those things is real estate. Investing in real estate isn't just about building personal wealth; it's about providing solutions to societal needs. By creating housing, revitalizing communities, and improving infrastructure, investors help solve problems the government often cannot address alone—and the tax code rewards those contributions with incentives like depreciation and deductions."

Jason focuses on depreciation (AKA the king of all deductions), and shares a case study from a recent investment to illustrate the value of depreciation in the game of taxes. So tune in, and get ready for part 2, which will be released in the coming days.

Bronson Kaufusi and MattyP welcome Jason Harris back to the HIG Podcast to talk about the recent grand opening of Harris Investment Group’s new 7th floor office, located in the Harris Financial Center.
This event marked a remarkable journey for Jason. From his humble beginnings in small-town Amarillo, Texas, to becoming a successful investor, mentor and CEO, Jason's journey was shaped by the early financial struggles his parents experienced. This fueled his determination to change his circumstances and, ultimately, lead to the creation of Harris Investment Group.
During our recent grand opening event, those in attendance were asked, “If you could ask Jason Harris one question, what would it be?” In this episode, Jason answers those questions and provides valuable insights into his success.
Enjoy!

Bronson Kaufusi and MattyP welcome Lisa Turner, Harris Investment Group’s Chief Administration Officer, to the HIG Podcast! Lisa was Jason Harris’ first official investor, Harris Investment Group’s first official employee, and Jason’s first (and only) official mother-in-law.
Lisa knows real estate. When she was a child, her father owned apartment complexes where she learned the ins and outs of property ownership and management. After managing her father’s properties, Lisa and her husband, Jim, decided to buy their first investment property in 1999, and have used real estate to generate their financial momentum throughout their entire marriage.
14 years (and a number of investment properties) later, Lisa found herself in her kitchen discussing an investment opportunity with her newly acquired son-in-law, Jason. Eager to get into the investing world and apply all the knowledge he had gained, Jason was committed to find a way to make this opportunity work.
