Peter says “we are a royal priesthood chosen to declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light (v.9b).”

When we are chosen by God we are set apart for his service and that requires that as we have been declared holy in Christ we seek to become what we have been declared to be. As we have been chosen and set apart and declared to be holy we then seek to live holy lives as children of God. There is no point in trying to declare light if we are not living as light. No point in being a priest if people do not see the difference that Jesus has made and is making in your life.

We have seen that sexuality and spirituality are very closely linked and the language of love for a person can also be used as the language of love expressed to God. Behind and below the language of the Song we have seen that the Song is not about either our relationship with people or our relationship with God – rather we have seen that as a book in the biblical canon it is about both. It is about passionate human love but also about passionate divine love – God for us and us for God.
