In this passage there is that sense of anticipation which lovers have, the longing to meet, to get to one another at a deeper level, the excitement. The air is full of the intoxication of their love – oh how wonderful it would be if a stranger walked in and sensed the intoxication of love that this people has for their God and say surely God is in this place. Oh how we love him for what he has done for us. In Christ he has taken our sin and the punishment for that sin and he has cast it away as far as the east is from the west so far has he removed our transgressions from us.

Maybe today for someone true love will awaken and they will see Jesus for who he is – the altogether lovely one who shed his blood for me and took my place on Calvary’s tree. Thank you Jesus for your outrageous love and outrageous grace for us.

In this short series looking at some of the Psalms through the summer we have tried to see that whatever our circumstances we should look up to God, we should see him as our refuge, our saviour, our guide through difficult times.

In Psalm 16, our final Psalm, we see a Psalm of David which draws many of our themes together and where David’s view of God flavours everything in his life.
