  • The Call to Holiness | 2022.10.30 - David Haley
The church at Thyatira is warmly commended by Jesus for its deeds, its love, its faith, its service, and its perseverance. They were also growing, and developing, and progressing.
However, in the midst of all of that, there were compromises that were being made. They tolerated a self proclaimed prophet called Jezebel, who was misleading people, the church at Thyatira had love, but tolerated the false teachings.
Responding to the call of holiness can be costly. And requires the courage and conscience to be intolerant of behaviors and values that oppose the very heart of God.

  • "The Call to Truth" | 2022.10.23 - Esther Chang
We’re on our third letter in this series on what Jesus has to say to the churches in the book of Revelation, and his word for the church in Pergamum is: hold to the truth. Join us as we see that the enemy of truth is not always a lie; the enemy of truth is compromise. How do we compromise in our personal lives? How do we compromise the truth as a church? How can we keep Jesus at the one, central place in our lives?

  • "The Call to Suffer" | 2022.10.16 - David Haley
As we continue in our "Ears to Hear" series from the book of Revelation, we consider the church at Smyrna, and the poverty that has come as a result of embodying Christ's presence, and the presence of the kingdom in the world.
Jesus knows about the way that the church has been slandered, perhaps in part because of their refusal to to worship Caesar either in addition to, or in favor of, their Lord and Savior Jesus– which would have made them seem unpatriotic or treacherous.
Jesus encourages those in the church to not be afraid of the suffering that is undoubtedly ahead for them, which may include imprisonment, or even death. Interestingly, in their suffering, the church at Smyrna is not corrected by Jesus. There is a righteousness to what they are bearing.

  • "The Call to Love" | 2022.10.09 - John Riemenschnitter
The church at Ephesus is praised by Jesus for their untiring, vigilant work, and for their adherence to the truth in the mist of false apostles. But Jesus corrects them for forsaking the love that they had at first. Our ultimate calling as the church is to love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength, and to love our neighbors as ourselves. How have we, as the church, forsaken the love we had at first? How is Jesus inviting us to hear his coll to love?

  • "Called to Listen" | 2022.10.02 - John Riemenschnitter
What does it look like for the church to be shaped by Jesus? John’s vision of the resurrected Jesus, and his words to the seven churches of Asia in the book of Revelation, provide us with some insight. We begin our series by considering the blessing, the greeting, and the opening vision of Revelation 1, and the invitation for the church to listen, and take to heart, Jesus’ words for his church.
