  • Steven "Bangarang" Snyder on Leave No Trace, Triple Crowns and Trail Communities

    Steven "Bangarang" Snyder is a triple crown long distance hiker who has been a long time Leave No Trace advocate. He is part of Granite Gear's Grounds Keepers team who are leaving our wild places better through advocacy and packing out trash found on the trail. Currently living in Tucson, he is focusing on Southern Arizona trails and recreation areas as his area of clean up and providing LNT outreach with the AZT and PCT trail communities.

    In this episode, we begin with Steven and I catching up on what things are currently like for him and others in the Arizona community due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He provides some advice for would be thru hikers and perceptive on the importance of getting off trail to protect our Trail Angels and the at risk population in trail towns that support hikers.

    Rue McKenrick is a triple crowner, professional long distance hiker and outdoors advocate.  Rue chats with me about what the American Perimeter Trail Project is and how we can support him as he blazes a new trail roughly 12,000 miles around the perimeter of the United States.

    I caught up with Rue who is currently in Mississippi after starting his hike from Bend, Oregon last summer.  He chats with us about what it's like to create a new trail, his inspiration and how things are going currently - including the COVID-19 pandemic.

  • Finding Harmony on an Appalachian Trail Thru-Hike with Liz "Ukulele" Brown

    Liz Brown, trail name "Ukulele", discovered the harmony and balance she needed while hiking the Appalachian Trail in 2019. We chat about her life as a wildland firefighter, going into a Ph.D program and ultimately making a decision to take a pause for a thru-hike to figure out how she truly wanted to live. We go into how the trail changed her and what life has been like post-trail, including how it inspired her to create and transform herself. Finally, Liz shares her advice for would be thru-hikers and those who might already be out there on the trail.

    Cat Eckrode takes listeners on her journey starting with when doing the Wonderland Trail was simply an idea she had.   • Following Flee's Adventures in Michigan's U.P.

    Felicia Hokenstad is an adventurer, Women Who Hike Ambassador, and an active volunteer for Women of the Wild Midwest. Just a few years ago through she was struggling with anxiety. Through running and hiking, she found that it calmed her and also improved her confidence. Felicia's story resonated with me because I think a lot of people face the same struggles and can relate to finding that peace and a sense of confidence through our adventures in the outdoors.
