(Part 1). We've all heard that Children of God are known by the love they have for one another.  But what does that really look like?  In our 1 John study, we are contrasting the Children of God vs the Children of the Devil.  We’ll see today that one of the most profound ways Children of God love each other is how they treat the teachings of God.  In other words, not spreading false teachings about the person and work of Christ is a primary way believers love one another.

(Part 6) As a Child of God do you sometimes still live in fear or shame of things about your past? According to John Fonville, when a Child of God is being crippled by shame and guilt is not life, it’s hell on earth. Christians sometimes say they dread the day when Christ returns because of their past failures.  The series we are currently in explores why Children of God do not have worry about that day.  In contrast, the followers of Satan on that day, will have much to face.

Running the race of life day after day -- especially the Christian life is absolutely exhausting.  It means we need to receive spiritual, rest and nourishment.  Where does that come from?  John says, spiritual nourishment comes from the means of grace, which is preaching, baptism, and the Lord's Supper.

Does God give up on His kids when they sin?  Will He turn away from His Children and ignore their prayers when they've failed?  According to John Fonville, God is faithful.  He's a God who disciplines His Children, but we can have confidence that's He's a God of mercy as we struggle with our sin.  He hears us and forgives his Children.  Today we are looking at Psalm 6 in this series called "How to Keep Going".

If you had to make a list of the top three things that help you grow spiritually, what would you suggest?  Would you say prayer, listening to worship music and reading your Bible?  While these are good things, are they "means of grace" or "means of gratitude?" John says there are three things known as "means of grace" that should be present in your church and life that are chief ways we can grow spiritually: preaching, baptism and the Lord's Supper.

Where in the church is the gospel?  Today John tells us that the gospel is present in a church that teaches, us that we don't "work for" or "earn" our salvation.  Here's a solid litmus test: does your church teach that being justified before God is is by grace alone, through faith alone and in Christ alone, then that's where you find the Gospel in the church.
