Representative Gabe Amo, Rhode Island's first Black congressman, is a native of Pawtucket and the son of Ghanaian and Liberian immigrants. Elected to Rhode Island's First Congressional District in 2023, he has served as a White House liaison under Presidents Obama and Biden, and as Director of Public Engagement under Governor Gina Raimondo. Amo won the special congressional race against Republican Gerry Leonard Jr. quickly after polls closed.
