Many of the fringe foods from the 1960s and 1970s are considered health foods today. Sprouts, tofu, nut loaf and mixed juices are a small sampling of "hippie foods" present on many menus today.

Hippie kids were the first to grow up in a world of pesticides and fertilizers. They were aware of some of the issues with industrially produced food. They decided to strip those things away and consume things they could control: grains and vegetables.
