If you find yourself struggling, whether it be through pregnancy, feelings of guilt or shame surrounding birth, difficulties breastfeeding, parenting during the pandemic, etc. - Please know you are not alone. Reach out to someone you trust with these feelings - or reach out to us directly. You are doing the hard work and we see you.
The contents of our show have many references to alcohol and drinking. We want to acknowledge our friends in recovery and let them know we love and support them. If you, or someone you know, is experiencing substance abuse disorder please call 1-800-662-HELP or visit https://www.samhsa.gov/
This week Alysia + Sarah sit down to talk about Black Maternal Health Week and how we can work to eliminate the inequity of Black maternal mortality. Women of color are 3-4x more likely to die due to pregnancy/birth-related causes than white women. This is a problem that we need to address. Space needs to be given to black maternal health, not just one week a year, but every day until we no longer see the staggering disparities women of color consistently face - especially when it comes to their maternal health.

We speak with her about said book, Drag Queen Story Hour - where Drag Queens read books with children at Libraries, her appearance on SNL, a few feelings on RuPaul’s Drag Race - and so much more!

Sarah + Alysia sit down with Erin McKenna: Founder of Erin McKenna’s Bakery. Erin is a perpetual inspiration, indelible entrepreneur, mother of three, and pioneer of the vegan, gluten-free movement since 2005. Today - as then - they focus on the underserved - people with gluten, dairy, egg, and soy sensitivities, the health-minded and - most importantly - allergic kids who are often unable to indulge. It’s a conversation you won’t want to miss - uncensored mom-talk from sleep training to the magic of night nurses to postpartum - and everything in between. We were so honored to have Erin sit with us and can’t wait for you to join the conversation.

Sarah + Alysia keep it light this week with a high-stakes game of ‘Never Have I Ever!’ But not before talking about some very important topics and getting into a few key entertainment recommendations. We listen to a Spill the Whine from Sarah Wehkamp which sparks a long conversation about giving ourselves grace, letting go of the disclaimer, and making sure we put ourselves first as parents.

Alysia + Sarah sit down with Kim Brunicke, an Independent Sleep Consultant with WeeSleep. Kim reached out to S+A after listening to Sarah’s cries for help in a recent episode - and graciously offered her help and support. Today you’ll hear some great advice from Kim, her story behind the journey of becoming a Sleep Consultant, what went down the last few weeks with Sarah, Kim, and Owen Fox, and so much more.
Kim has also provided our community with a 15% off promo code to use at www.wee-sleep.com on any sleep program. She, and other consultants, are also available for a free 15 minute consultation if you aren’t sure if the program is right for you. (Sarah says it is.)

Alysia + Sarah chat so many things before getting to the point of the episode. We all have said it. “I love my kid, but….” THE disclaimer. The one we feel we must give so people we are talking to know we aren’t a bad parent. Truth is, we are better parents for talking about it. There may also be a few appearances by one child in question that is loved, but...

Sarah + Alysia chat about having some messy feelings this week before diving into the topic at hand: milestones. Are they helpful or harmful or somewhere in between? Then we hear a Spill the Whine story from Kelsey, who has spent her entire time as a mother - from conception to now three months in - stuck in a pandemic. Find Kelsey on instagram @k.eskeland13 or follow along with her pandemic parenting journey @pandemic__parenting.

Sarah + Alysia sit down to talk about a specific phrase used mainly as an emotional cushion. We often feel the need to respond “it gets better” when our friends are telling us hardships - when really we just need to sit with them in the darkness and remember that listening with empathy is powerful. They also explain why this episode was recorded multiple times + sit down to Spill some Whine with Alysia’s mother.

Alysia + Sarah bring you a special episode this week - the first installment of Fireside Chats! This is audio from an Instagram Live video where they sit in front of an actual fire and do a sampling of Flying Embers spicy hard seltzer, take a few tequila shots, talk a little about parenting, and maybe get a little slap-happy!
