"We’re such a financially illiterate society for being so wealthy and prosperous, and really the risk literate today are taking candy from the risk illiterate." - Dr. Richard Smith
Does all the talk about cryptocurrency and NFTs confuse you? Has it made you consider investing? While crypto and NFTs remain accessible for young investors to get their foot in the door without having to spend a ton of money, they do come with risks just like any other investment. So, it’s important to understand exactly what you’re getting yourself into before you go all-in.
Fear of risk and uncertainty explains why most people don’t succeed when investing. Nicknamed the “Doctor of Uncertainty”, Dr. Richard Smith has made it his life’s work to learn how to master risk, and tens of thousands of investors have benefited from his approach.
Dr. Smith studied mathematics at UC Berkeley and earned a PhD in systems science from the Watson School of Engineering at SUNY Binghamton. Plus, he’s a regular columnist, commentator, and featured guest on several financial media outlets, such as CNN, BBC News, MarketWatch, Forbes, NASDAQ.com, and The Ric Edelman Show.
In the early 2000s, Dr. Smith began his career by developing financial technology sites. Today, his teachings focus on how to make decisions in the face of uncertainty. In this episode we discuss:
…and so much more. We’re about to set the record straight on all the social media buzz.

"The piggy bank on its own… the tool itself is not enough." - Clifton Corbin
You might’ve read the title of this episode and thought, ‘well, that sounds contradictory…’, but Clifton Corbin will tell you it’s anything but. Since we start forming habits by age 7, it’s even more important that we’re teaching our young one’s the most effective ways to save — not to mention ourselves.
Clifton is author of the new book Your Kids, Their Money: A Parent's Guide to Financially Literate Children. He holds an MBA and was a financial and business analyst before stepping up to make financial literacy approachable for kids and their parents.
In this episode, Clifton and host Anastasia Barbuzzi discuss why he despises piggy banks (and why you should demolish yours), how to teach financial lessons to your kids time-efficiently, and the importance of storytelling when it comes to teaching personal finance.
Even if you don’t have kids, Your Kids, Their Money is a great, jargon-free guide to becoming financially literate. As someone who was once stuck in a negative financial position, Clifton’s main goal is to make financial concepts “easy to consume and convey” for everybody.

“Now I feel very excited to say that… ya, I totally work part-time at Lululemon.” - Dana Clark
Born into a family of entrepreneurs, Dana Clark was destined to start a business of her own someday. Now, she’s the founder and owner of Cool to Connect, a Canadian brand that aims to strike meaningful conversations and bring people together.
As the former host and creator of Heroic Humans, it’s not Dana’s first time venturing into business. She’s already expanded her collection of conversation cards to include a guided journal, candle, and even a kids collaboration with @ceciliakissel. That said, the journey hasn’t been easy.
On this episode of the #FoundingFemme series, host Anastasia Barbuzzi chats with Dana about normalizing trial and error for entrepreneurs, bootstrapping a biz, de-stigmatizing working multiple jobs to fund a venture, creating meaningful connections with customers and building a community, and conceptualizing products that are organic extensions of your brand mission.
Plus, Dana gives away some *never heard before* BTS looks at how Cool to Connect came to be and the facts about dealing with overseas manufacturers as a small brand.
Some days, entrepreneurship is hard. As Dana says in this episode, “There is nothing glamorous about being a business owner. I think the reality outweighs the glamour, an insane amount. It is really frickin’ hard at times and especially when you’re doing it alone. Running a business by yourself has a lot of perks but it also has a lot of difficulty.”

“I think as human beings, we end up adjusting to our situations and making the best out of it.” - Chris Holder
What do Cardi B, 50 Cent and Floyd Mayweather all have in common? CEO Chris Holder, today's special guest on the pod. Chris and host Anastasia Barbuzzi discuss his come up from ground zero, entrepreneurship, generational wealth, investing and more.
If you're in need of a little inspiration or motivation, this is the episode to listen to. A true feel good story, Chris figured out what it takes to experience the "financial freedom" everyone dreams about... only after hitting rock bottom. Homeless for nearly 2 years, he now works to educate and empower people with the tools to achieve their life goals (including those celebs we mentioned).
Amazingly, Chris was able to retire from his 9-5 at the age of 25, where he went from making an annual salary of $28,000 to earning multiple six figures in less than a year. A savvy entrepreneur and people person to his core, he now holds the title of "best selling author" on Amazon and makes regular appearances on platforms like the Wall Street Journal and NBC.
By the grace of an unexpected opportunity, Chris was given one chance at what some people would consider a low point in his life and he sure as hell made the most out of it. Nevertheless, he remains humble and lives by his words: “They say money doesn’t change who you are… You are who you are, money just helps you get to that person faster”.
Also, remember: everything is going to be OK 💚

"Without a clear understanding of money — how to get it, how to grow it and make it last — women can face a lifetime of fears about outliving their funds." - Margaret Price & Jill Gianola
...Already have those thoughts in mind? So do about 66 million single women in America. Traditionally expected to marry and be supported by their spouse, many women have not been schooled in finance — at least not at home. This knowledge gap can stifle their ability to manage in a financial crisis and can worsen their fears about old age.
According to today's guests on the show, co-authors of Single Women and Money, Margaret Price and Jill Gianola, it's time to balance the financial scales. Society needs to scrap the traditional attitudes and discriminatory practices that economically harm women — especially singles. They deserve nothing less.
Your host, Anastasia Barbuzzi, Margaret and Jill go all over the map in this episode. From discussing the inspiration behind Single Women and Money to "pink ghettos", the co-authors explain their comprehensive guide to helping women survive and thrive. They also point to the reasons why single women's financial issues have long been overlooked using real-life stories, data and expert insights.
