After a long offseason full of changes for sixth-year head coach Mike Houston, the ECU football season is set to open a new campaign this Saturday, Aug. 31, against Norfolk State inside Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium. The Pirates are coming off a 2-10 season after consecutive bowl appearances, but are optimistic they can turn things around with much of last year's defense back, and a new-look offense.
Hoist The Colours host Stephen Igoe is joined by co-host Sean (AKA NoVaPirate on the Hoist The Colours boards). The two take a deep dive on Jake Garcia being named QB1, what to expect from John David Baker's offense, questions going into the season, the defense as a whole, and what to expect in the opener against Norfolk State.

East Carolina's defensive front is expected to be a key piece of the team in 2024, and it begins with a stalwart senior class that's been around and played quite a bit. Amongst that group is fifth-year nose tackle D'Anta Johnson, a physical and imposing presence in the middle of the Pirates' defensive front. Johnson joins the Hoist The Colours podcast to go down memory lane, discuss his time at ECU and the adversity he's faced along the way, and looks ahead to the 2024 season.
Johnson's appearance on the podcast is presented by Team Boneyard, ECU's NIL collective, through our Hoist The Colours NIL initiative, where members raised money for select Pirate players earlier this offseason. Hoist The Colours has also welcomed Elijah Morris, JD Lampley, Chad Stephens and Shavon Revel to either the HTC radio show or podcast through the initiative.

Hoist The Colours sat down with East Carolina head baseball coach Cliff Godwin following the Pirates' 2024 season, which included a 46-17 overall record and a fifth straight American Athletic Conference regular season title, and a fifth regional hosting bid in the last six seasons.
Godwin and HTC host Stephen Igoe took a brief look back at the 2024 season, before discussing the ongoing changing landscape of college athletics, including how NIL and the transfer portal has impacted ECU baseball, and college baseball in general. Godwin also addressed South Carolina's interest in him for its recent head coach opening, in addition to looking ahead to 2025, and giving injury updates on ECU players Ryley Johnson, Walker Barron and Jake Hunter.

East Carolina's 2024 season has come to an end, and it's time to set sights on the 2025 season. The Pirates wrapped up a 46-17 season under 10th-year head coach Cliff Godwin this past Monday with a loss in the Greenville Regional championship, but after losing several key pieces to graduation and the transfer portal, there are major questions looking ahead to next year's roster.
The 'Bucs on the Pond' podcast return for an early look ahead to next season, discussing the latest portal news, incoming recruiting class, and a whole lot more.

East Carolina's 2024 baseball season came to an end on Monday in the Greenville Regional with a 6-5 loss to Evansville. The Pirates fell to the Purple Aces on Friday before battling back out of the loser's bracket, eliminating Wake Forest and topping VCU before beating Evansville on Sunday night to force a winner-take-all finale. But on Monday, Evansville found a way to outlast East Carolina, to win the Greenville Regional and advance to the Supers.
The Pirates end the season 46-17, and shy of their ultimate goal, the College World Series, once again. The Hoist The Colours 'Bucs on the Bond' podcast returns to break down the season-ending loss and sum up the 2024 season as a whole.

East Carolina - in somewhat surprising fashion - was announced as a regional host site on Sunday night leading into Monday's announcement of the field of 64 for the NCAA baseball tournament.
The Pirates have been ranked in the Top 15 in both major polls all season, but were considered by some media outlets as a non-host due to their RPI, which has dropped into the 20s over the last few weeks. But ECU made the host cut on Sunday night, and will await their regional pairings on Monday.
The 'Bucs on the Pond' podcast returns with Stephen Igoe, Scott Lorbacher, and Jonathan Wagner, as the trio react to the news, and take questions from the fans going into selection Monday.

East Carolina's baseball team responded from its worst week of the year with a clean sweep of Rice, wrapping up a fifth consecutive regular season American Athletic Conference championship. The Pirates closed the regular season with 40 wins against 13 losses, and went 19-8 in The American. They now head to the conference tournament in Clearwater, Fla., with plenty to play for, including the chance to host, and maybe be a national seed.
The Bucs on the Pond podcast returns with hosts Stephen Igoe, Jonathan Wagner, and Scott Lorbacher, as the trio answers questions, give their reactions to the week that was, and more.

East Carolina's baseball team had a miserable week, going 0-4 to see its losing streak hit five consecutive games. The Pirates dropped to 37-13 on the season and 16-8 in American Athletic Conference play with a 5-2 midweek loss to Duke, and a three-game sweep at the hands of Tulane. Two of the losses to the Green Wave came in walk-off fashion, as the Pirates dropped their fifth consecutive game for the first time in seven years.
ECU will try and respond this week with a four-game home slate, with games scheduled against Campbell (Tuesday) and Rice (Thursday through Saturday) as the season wraps up. East Carolina holds a one-game lead in the conference standings ahead of UTSA with three league games left.
