Soon after making Sunset , Olson met celebrated librettist, Alan Jay Lerner (Lerner & Lowe). Lerner began a courtship with her while she continued her movie career, starring in “Mr. Music” (1950) with Bing Crosby, & “Union Station” (1950) with William Holden.

In the spring of 1950, Nancy Olson married Alan Jay Lerner and the two settled in together while she was working on films “Submarine Command” (1951) and “Force of Arms” (1951), both with Holden, and while Lerner was creating the musical “Paint Your Wagon” (1951) with Fedrick Lowe.

Although Olson began to focus more on her family life, she continued to make pictures, including starring with John Wayne in “Big Jim McLaine” (1952) with Steve Forrest in “So Big” (1953), & with Will Rogers in “The Boy from Oklahoma” (1954). She also starred in the blockbuster movie, “Battle Cry” (1955) with Aldo Ray.

After Olson divorced Lerner, she turned to the theater to revitalize her career. She starred in a series of Broadway plays and made several appearances in films for the Walt Disney studio. “The Absent-Minded Professor” (1961) and “Son of Flubber” (1963) paired her with Fred MacMurray. She also appeared alongside Hayley Mills in “Pollyanna” (1960) “Smith!” (1969) with Glenn Ford, & “Snowball Express” (1972) with Dean Jones.

During the later half of Olson’s career, she married her second husband, Alan Wendell Livingston, who at the time was president of Capitol Records. Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, she did guest roles on television shows & continued making movies, starring in the hit disaster movie “Airport 75” (1974), “Making Love” (1982), and making a guest appearance in Disney’s remake of “Flubber” (1997) starring Robin Williams.

In her new memoir, “A Front Row Seat: An Intimate Look at Broadway, Hollywood, and the Age of Glamour”, Livingston treats readers to an intimate look into her life as a woman, wife, mother, and actress working and building a life in the last gleaming years of Hollywood’s Golden Age.

  • Episode 24 – Shining The Spotlight On Soap Star Ian Buchanan - Part 2

During the second part of their conversation, host Tony Miros chats with his neighbor, soap star Ian Buchanan about how he got cast on the prime-time TV series “Twin Peaks”, what it was like working with legendary director David Lynch, why his character Dick didn’t appear in the recent limited series “Twin Peaks: The Return” on Showtime, his recollection of filming at the Ambassador Hotel when he was playing legendary actor Peter Lawford in the TV movie “Marilyn & Bobby: Her Final Affair” and his experience of working on the sitcoms “It’s The Garry Shandling’s Show” and “The Nanny”!

    IAN BUCHANAN

Born in Hamilton, Scotland, Ian worked at a local hotel as a bellhop while still a teenager. He went on to work as a bartender and restaurant manager in Scotland. While vacationing in Spain, his exceptional good looks captured the attention of a photographer. He agreed to a photo session that went so well he quickly found regular modeling work. He moved to London where he soon became an international fashion model. When the prestigious Ford Agency signed him in the 1980s, he relocated to New York City.

Ian studied acting at New York's Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute. He was also coached by notable playwright and actress Marcia Haufrecht. His hard work paid off when he was offered the role of heartthrob ‘Duke Lavery’ on “General Hospital” (1963) in 1986 who most notably sizzled with co-star Finola Hughes. The role became Buchanan's launch pad to other television opportunities. When he left the soap in 1989, he appeared on prime-time in “It's Garry Shandling's Show”(1986) from 1988-1990.

A chance meeting with director David Lynch while he was taping a Calvin Klein commercial with Lara Flynn Boyle led to his role as the pompous ‘Dick Tremayne’ in “Twin Peaks.” Following the finale of that show, Lynch cast him in the series “On the Air.” His feature film credits include “Bobby and Marilyn,” “Double Exposure,” “The Cool Surface,” and “The Seventh Sign.”

In 1990, he appeared in numerous primetime/ television shows, including “The Equalizer”, “The Flash” as the main villain, Stan Kovacs, on “Columbo Cries Wolf” he played a wealthy Playboy-style magazine publisher who murders his partner and on “Quantum Leap” he played a vampire in the Halloween episode.

He returned to daytime television in 1993 as the mysterious psychologist Dr. James Warwick on “The Bold and the Beautiful”. He was the first ever actor on the show to receive a Daytime Emmy Award in 1997 and stayed with the show until 1999, returning on several occasions from 2004 to 2011.

A string of guest-starring roles on various TV shows followed as well as some film work including playing Jodie Foster's Realtor on “Panic Room” (2002). He has since appeared on various soap operas: including the "General Hospital" spin-off “Port Charles” portraying the sinister Joshua Temple until the show's end in 2003. In 2005, he joined the cast of "All My Children," in the role of Dr. Greg Madden until his character was killed off in 2006.

In 2012, he joined "Days of Our Lives" in the newly created contract role of Ian McAllister, but was let go, as the result of a shift in the direction of the series.

Not long after he returned to "General Hospital" after a 23-year long absence where he was reunited with actress Finola Hughes.

  • Episode 23 – Shining The Spotlight On Soap Star Ian Buchanan - Part 1

On this episode of Hollywood Obsessed, host Tony Miros has an illuminating conversation with actor Ian Buchanan who discusses his early years modeling in Europe, what it was like to suddenly become a huge daytime soap star when he landed the part of ‘Duke Lavery’ on “General Hospital”, how he had to get rid of his thick Scottish accent in order to work on American TV, how much he loves working with his long time co-star Finola Hughes, the challenges he faced taking on a much-hated character like “Dr. Greg Madden” on the daytime drama “All My Children” and his funny memories of winning a Daytime Emmy for his role in the “Bold and the Beautiful”!
