During the second part of his conversation with film writer, author and Hollywood researcher Lara Gabrielle, host Tony Miros and Lara discuss the truth about whether the character of Susan Alexander in Orson Welles 1941 classic film “Citizen Kane” was based on actress Marion Davies or not, as well as what the REAL story is about the mysterious death of movie mogul Thomas Ince on William Randolph Hearst’s lavish yacht “The Oneida” and why Soundstage 16 on the Warner Bros lot became one of the tallest stages in the world because of Marion’s film “Cain and Mabel”!
LARA GABRIELLE
Ms. Gabrielle is a film writer and researcher, who has been called “the world expert on Marion Davies.” Her work has been featured in Alta, The San Francisco Chronicle, The Missouri Review, The Wall Street Journal, and PBS’s American Experience. Gabrielle has spoken at film festivals and retrospectives worldwide and has served as a consultant on Davies’s life and legacy for books, dissertations, and film projects. Her biography, Captain of Her Soul: The Life of Marion Davies, has been included on many top book lists for 2022. She lives in Oakland, California.
In her book Captain of Her Soul, Gabrielle pulls back layers of myth to show a complex and fiercely independent woman, ahead of her time, who carved her own path.
Through meticulous research, unprecedented access to archives around the world, and interviews with those who knew Davies, Captain of Her Soul counters the public story. This book reveals a woman who navigated disability and social stigma to rise to the top of a young Hollywood dominated by powerful men. Davies took charge of her own career, negotiating with studio heads and establishing herself as a top-tier comedienne, but her proudest achievement was her philanthropy and advocacy for children. This biography brings Davies out of the shadows cast by the Hearst legacy, shedding light on a dynamic woman who lived life on her own terms and declared that she was “the captain of her soul.”

During the second part of his conversation with actor and former child star Keith Coogan, Tony asks him how he got his first on-screen role in the hilarious 1987 teen comedy “Adventures In Babysitting,” what it was like working with actress Elizabeth Shue on that film and later with actress Christina Applegate on the hit 1991 comedy “Don’t Tell Mom The Babysitter is Dead,” as well as his childhood memory of playing Cindy Williams’ son in a special episode of the classic TV sitcom “Laverne & Shirley” and his plans on writing a book to help kids (and their parents) on how to make it in Hollywood!
KEITH COOGAN
The grandson of legendary character actor Jackie Coogan, Keith began his acting career doing TV commercials -- his first gig was as a stand-in in a McDonald's TV spot. That lead to parts on various TV shows and made-for-TV movies such as Little House On The Prairie, The Waltons, The Love Boat, Fantasy Island, Laverne & Shirley, Mork & Mindy, Eight Is Enough, Knight Rider, Growing Pains, Silver Spoons, Fame, and CHiPs. He also did the voice of Young Tod for the charming animated Disney picture "The Fox and the Hound."
His first on-screen role was as the smitten Brad Anderson in the delightful teen comedy cult favorite "Adventures in Babysitting" (1987). Keith gave a very funny and engaging performance as Christina Applegate's stoner layabout brother Kenny in the equally enjoyable "Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead" (1991) and was impressive as Jonathan "Snuffy" Bradberry in "Toy Soldiers" (1991).
Recent credits include the feature films, "Beautiful Garden", "Dawn Patrol", "Cats Dancing on Jupiter", "Limelight", and a creepy turn in Lifetime Television's "A Tale of Two Coreys".
Keith was most recently seen on screen in Kevin Smith's "Jay and Silent Bob Reboot" for Saban Films/Universal Pictures. He resides in Los Angeles with his wife Kristen and continues to act with pleasing regularity.

During the second part of his conversation with screenwriter Bennett Yellin, Tony asks him about what it was like working with stars Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels on Dumb and Dumber, the on-set romance between Jim Carrey and Lauren Holly, if he was shocked when the movie became such a huge hit, if it was it harder to write the sequel because of the high expectations of the fans, how they got Kathleen Turner to star in the 2014 sequel Dumb and Dumber To and what would be his advice to a young aspiring screenwriter that has just arrived in Hollywood.
BENNETT YELLIN
Born and raised in Los Angeles, Bennett Yellin received his B.A. in Fiction from U.C.L.A. Still not ready to enter the real world, he enrolled at UMass in Amherst for an M.F.A. in fiction. It was there — on the first day of school — that he met and befriended Peter Farrelly. On a lark, they tried writing a comedy together and this spec script ultimately got into the hands of Eddie Murphy and the Zucker Brothers, creators of Airplane and The Naked Gun. Both Murphy and the Zuckers asked the duo to write movies for them, and their career was off and running.
Yellin wrote exclusively with Peter for years until they asked his brother Bobby to join them. The three went on to write a number of unproduced features together until they created Dumb and Dumber in 1994 and reunited in 2014 to co- write the official sequel chronicling the further idiotic adventures of Harry and Lloyd, Dumb and Dumber To.
In 2007, the Farrelly Brothers branched out on their own and Yellin partnered with James Robert Johnson to create a professional writing duo that has endured for sixteen years. Among the plethora of projects they’ve tackled during their career — some produced, others not — the two have co-written Let’s Scare Jessica to Death for Paramount Pictures, the Fox situation comedy Unhitched, the direct-to-DVD thriller Joy Ride 2: Dead Ahead, Paramount Pictures’ Hotel For Dogs 2, the Anchor Bay action-thriller In the Blood with Gina Carano, the 20th Century Fox family film, Santa’s Little Helper, and the Warner Brothers re-boot of the Police Academy series, Police Academy: Takin’ it to the Streets. More recently, Yellin and Johnston have co-written a live action family stage show adaptation of the hugely popular Angry Birds IP, and the two are currently at work creating an original pilot for a new animated show.
