  • Episode 22 - Getting Acquainted With ‘Waltons’ Star Michael Learned - Part 2

During the second part of their conversation, host Tony Miros chats with four-time Emmy Award-winning actress Michael Learned about the reasons why after seven seasons she left “The Waltons,” her memories of winning her first Emmy Award, her thoughts about the CW’s recent “Waltons” remake, why the critically acclaimed CBS drama “Nurse” was canceled after only two seasons, why she enjoyed working on the TV sitcom “Living Dolls” with a young Halle Berry, and what it was like working with Evan Peters on the Netflix limited series “DAHMER Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story.”

    MICHAEL LEARNED

Born in Washington D.C., at the age of six, her family moved from NJ to a farm in CT. As the oldest of six girls, she was eleven when they moved to Austria, where her father worked for the OSS (later known as the CIA), to live in a tiny village called St. Gilgen. From there she went to boarding school at The Arts Educational School in England. Primarily a ballet school, her 11-year old dream was to become a prima ballerina. However, to everyone’s surprise, she won the drama cup and at her teachers suggestions she focused on “special drama” instead of ballet.

At the age of 16, she went to the London School and completed her dramatic training. Upon her return to the states, at 17 years of age, she married Peter Donat and had 3 children by the time she was 24. As her marriage to Peter was breaking up, fifteen years later, she moved to Los Angeles and landed the part of Olivia Walton in “The Waltons.”

Since then, Michael has become a four-time Emmy award winning actress (three for “The Waltons” and one for “Nurse”). She has received a People’s Choice Award and has been a three- time Golden Globe nominee. On stage, she starred in “Steel Magnolias” at the La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts, in the national tour of “On Golden Pond” and in Lewis Black’s “One Slight Hitch.”

Her films include “For the Love of Mary,” “Life During Wartime,” “Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story” and “Power,” directed by Sidney Lumet. Her television credits include everything from “Gunsmoke,” “Police Story,” and “Murder, She Wrote,” to “Cold Case,” “Scrubs,” “Law and Order: SVU,” “Profiler,” “A Father for Brittany,” “Murder in New Hampshire,” “Roots: The Gift,” “All My Sons,” as well as “All My Children,” “General Hospital” and “Nurse” to name a few.

One of TV’s most respected moms, four-time Emmy winner, Michael Learned, is currently starring in Ryan Murphy’s limited series, “DAHMER - Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story,” about the serial killer, directed by Ryan Murphy and co-created by Murphy and Ian Brennan for Netflix. She joins a cast as the grandmother of the infamous killer, Catherine Dahmer, with Evan Peters as Dahmer and supporting cast including Niecy Nash, Richard Jenkins, Penelope Ann Miller, Molly Ringwald and Dylan Burnside.

She also recently joined her beloved “Waltons” TV family and special guests for a cast Q&A and exhibit with costumes, props, scripts, and more supplied by Warner Brothers that were unveiled at The Hollywood Museum - in the historic Max Factor Building in Hollywood - in celebration of the 50th Anniversary of “The Waltons.”

She’ll be appearing at The Hollywood Show on June 30th thru July 1st – along with some of the other “Saturday Night Fever” cast members to sign autographs and take photos with fans - at the Los Angeles Marriott Burbank Airport Hotel in Burbank, California.

    KAREN LYNN GOREY

Karen Lynn Gorney was born on January 28, in Beverly Hills, the daughter of Jay Gorney, a Detroit attorney turned songwriter after his move out west. He would later pen the immortal "Brother, can you spare a dime?".

Karen moved to New York where she enrolled at the High School of Performing Arts. Later, she would attend Carnegie-Mellon in Pittsburgh where she would earn a BFA in Acting/Speech, on a full scholarship, and move on to a Master's degree in Acting, as a Fellowship Student, at Brandeis University.

After working in regional theatres in the Boston area, "All My Children" called, in 1970, and Karen would become, for the first time, Tara Martin, a role she created. As Tara, Karen captivated the audience; she was the very image of the modern young woman, struggling with life and love. Then, along came "Saturday Night Fever."

Little did she know when she was chosen as John Travolta's romantic lead in the 1978 John Badham hit film, "Saturday Night Fever," that the movie would become the most recognizable symbol of an era, effectively turning her into a cultural icon. As "Stephanie," she made us laugh, again captured our hearts, and made us want to cheer her on through her struggles to make a life for herself, out of Bay Ridge, and into the real world.

After a long gap from the public eye, during which she managed an art gallery in Manhattan, Gorney eventually returned to acting in the early 1990s, appearing in small roles in such films as “The Hard Way” (1991), “Ripe” (1996), and “Creating Karma” (2006), and returned to “All My Children” during 1995 in cameo spots.

More recently, she has guest-starred in several TV shows, including “Law & Order,” “The Sopranos,” and “Six Degrees,” as well as doing independent films and off-Broadway shows.

Karen's many independent films include “A Crime” (2006), with Harvey Keitel, and “Searching for Bobby D” (2005), with Sandra Bernhard. She was featured in the role of the Judge in the 2008 independent feature film “Dear J.”

Along with her acting work, Gorney is a singer and has released three albums: “Used to Love You Madly,” “Hot Moonlight!,” and “The Dance of the Deadly’s.” She has performed at various jazz clubs and cafes.

Karen's CD "Hot Moonlight!" is available on Amazon, and on her website.  It has received international acclaim.

  • Episode 14 – Out Of This World Convo With Dee Wallace Part 2

During the second part of his conversation with “ET The Extra-Terrestrial” star Dee Wallace, host Tony Miros gets the scoop about what it was like on the set of the Stephen King horror classic “Cujo,” her experience working with directors Peter Jackson on his cult classic film “The Frighteners” and Rob Zombie on his remake of “Halloween,” and how much she’s enjoying working with her old friend – actor Gregory Harrison on the hit Fox series “9-1-1”!

    DEE WALLACE

Dee Wallace was born Deanna Bowers and raised in a religious home in Kansas City, Kansas. Although her family was lower middle class financially, they were wealthy in love and talent. Dee’s grandmother was a beautiful artist, her mother a well-known and respected actress in local theatre, and her father an entrepreneur salesman who, unfortunately, fell to alcoholism. He succumbed to the disease with suicide when Dee was a senior in high school.

Dee graduated from Kansas University with a degree in Theatre Education and taught a year of high school before leaving for New York to seek her fame and fortune in 1977. Her first audition was for Hal Prince the day she arrived in the Big Apple. She made it to the last round of five girls but didn’t book the part. However, she knew she was on her way!

The next two years found her dancing in several touring productions and accumulating tons of commercials which kept her financially solvent. She did a small part in “The Stepford Wives” and some small industrial films and decided to make her way to Hollywood to try her luck in film.

She landed co-star roles right away, which led to guest star parts, which led to films. Within four short years after leaving Kansas, Blake Edwards cast her in the hit film “10,” which led to Joe Dante’s “The Howling.” Steven Spielberg saw her and called her in for an audition for “Used Cars.” She didn’t book that, but Mr. Spielberg called her when “ E.T., The Extraterrestrial“ came around, and offered her the part of Mary.

  • Episode 13 – Out Of This World Convo With Dee Wallace Part 1

On this episode of Hollywood Obsessed, host Tony Miros chats with actress Dee Wallace about leaving her hometown in Kansas and moving to NYC to start her career in acting, auditioning at HB Studio to study with legendary acting teacher Uta Hagen, starring in Joe Dante’s “The Howling,” and how Steven Spielberg offered her the role of a lifetime in his now classic film “ E.T., The Extraterrestrial“!
