August 02, 2023Kidventure: THE GOONIES and HEAVYWEIGHTSWhat would summer be without a little adventure! And sometimes it's even more fun when it's a "kidventure", so we're going back to our childhoods with this episode on a couple of our favorite kid-led adventure stories. The first one we talk about is probably the quintessential movie in this category - Brian's pick is Richard Donner's THE GOONIES from 1985. You know it, you probably love it, and it was most likely a staple of your childhood, too! We try to pinpoint just why this one still works for us after all these years, whether it be personal connections or just those little moments in the film that really make it special. Then Michele introduces Brian to a favorite from her childhood, 1995's HEAVYWEIGHTS! A throwback to the irreverent movies and TV shows for kids from the 90s, this is one that has really only gotten better over the years because of the important message at its core. Plus, it has one of Ben Stiller's best performances ever, AND a great dance sequence from Paul Fieg, so what's not to love?! Happy listening - and please don't put Twinkies on your pizza.Follows us on social media:Movies for Life podcast: @MovieLifePodBrian Keiper: @Brianwaves42Michele Eggen: @micheleeggen...more2h 27minPlay
July 19, 2023Horror of 2023 So FarIn this episode we discuss every horror movie of 2023 that we've seen so far and discuss what we've thought of them. It's a lively conversation that gets into the highs and lows of this year's horror films (between January and the end of June) with a few hot takes along the way. But please remember that it's all in good fun, and hey, maybe our opinions could change if we watch the films again! As the both of us are really horror kids at heart, we actually haven't talked about THAT much horror on the show thus far so this conversation was a lot of fun for us and we hope you enjoy listening to it!Follow the show on Instagram and Twitter @MovieLifePod...more1h 18minPlay
July 04, 2023Animals Attack: ARACHNOPHOBIA and JAWS(Note: this episode was recorded a few weeks before it was confirmed that Julian Sands had passed away. RIP)We have some summer fun for this week's episode of Movies for Life where we're talking about a couple of animal attack movies! First, we get into a 90s thrill-omedy that brilliantly walks the line of being legit traumatizing and hilariously fun at the same time - ARACHNOPHOBIA! We have a great time discussing just what makes this film still effective after all these years, the moments that creep us out the most, and the best sidekick character ever, Delbert McLintock. Then we celebrate the 4th of July with the classic film most associated with the holiday, the practically-perfect-in-every-way JAWS! Though we know we can't really say anything about JAWS that hasn't been said before, we do our best by going through some of our favorite scenes and moments with the characters, and even some new thoughts and feelings we had this time around. We hope you all enjoy listening!Follow us on social media: Movies For Life podcast: @MovieLifePodBrian Keiper: @Brianwaves42Michele Eggen: @micheleeggen ...more2h 18minPlay
June 14, 2023School’s Out: Memorable Movie TeachersWe have a special school's out (or almost out in Brian's case) episode of Movies for Life for you this week. Each of us count down five of our favorite movie teachers. Some are good, some are bad, some are in between but all make the movies they're in so much more enjoyable. Remember to hit us up on the socials to let us know some of your favorites!Follow us on social media:Movies for Life Podcast: @MovieLifePodBrian Keiper: @Brianwaves42Michele Eggen: @micheleeggen ...more1hPlay
May 31, 2023Baseball Movies: A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN and THE BAD NEWS BEARSBatter up, Movies for Life listeners, because we're talking about a pair of great baseball movies today on the show! Though there are a lot of movies to pick from in this category, we picked the two that have either touched us the most or, in Michele's case, have meant a lot to us our whole lives. So first up is that movie, Michele's choice of Penny Marshall's A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN (1992). This one has a ton of great moments but we try to focus on the core of what makes it a great movie - Tom Hanks' performance, the sister relationship, etc. We also give our answers to the big question about the ending - does Dottie drop the ball on purpose? Then we get into another comedy, one a bit more rough around the edges but still with a lot of heart, and that is THE BAD NEWS BEARS from 1976. This story of an alcoholic Walter Matthau coaching the worst Little League team is equal parts hilarious and heartfelt in its portrayal of relationships and lessons learned while playing the game that is America's past time. Enjoy the episode!Follow us on social media:Movies for Life Podcast: @MovieLifePodBrian Keiper: @Brianwaves42Michele Eggen: @micheleeggen...more2h 29minPlay
May 17, 2023Coming of Age: STAND BY ME and NOW AND THENDo you guys wanna go see a dead body? Well okay, we don't have one to show you but one of the movies we're talking about today does! That's right, we're jumping on our bikes and going on an adventure together as we tackle two coming of age movies. First up is Brian's choice, the seminal, needs-no-introduction classic STAND BY ME from 1986. Then we talk about basically the STAND BY ME for girls, the (in Michele's opinion) overlooked NOW AND THEN from 1995. Both of these movies are filled with great performance by fantastic child actors, and they give us a chance to reminisce about a bygone era from a lot of our childhoods. We hope you enjoy the discussion!...more2h 31minPlay

April 19, 2023Robots: THE MITCHELLS VS THE MACHINES and WALL-EIn this episode we tackle our very first animated films that both happen to be about robots. We start with the delightful family comedy THE MITCHELLS VS. THE MACHINES from 2021, a movie that reminds us to be weird because being weird might lead to saving the world. We follow it up with one of the greatest movies of the century so far, Pixar's masterpiece WALL-E from 2008. It's a science fiction-comedy-romance-action-animated piece of cinematic perfection with a lot to say about who we are and who we could be. April 05, 2023Oldest Profession: BELLE DE JOUR and LAST NIGHT IN SOHOOn this week's Movies for Life, we're heading back to the swingin' 60s with two very different tales about women working in the world's oldest profession (ie sex work). Our first movie is Michele's pick of Luis Bunuel's BELLE DE JOUR from 1967, a fascinating and at times complex and complicated story of a woman's choice to secretly enter sex work as a way to work through her issue and explore her masochistic fantasies. Then we jump to the 2021 movie LAST NIGHT IN SOHO for Brian's choice. While dealing the same profession, the character in this film has a much different and darker story, wrapped up in an equally intriguing, colorful, and at times totally bonkers, tale about the dangers of nostalgia.
