The Homespun Yak returns this week to discuss the incredibly smooth and extraordinarily peaceful final exit of American forces and civilians from Afghanistan. The guys fondly reminisce on the past 20 years of their lives and talk of the good times - back when America responded to acts of terrorism by violently overthrowing the governments of foreign nations, drone striking villages to oblivion and forcibly spreading the ideals of democracy to those living in hunter gatherer societies. Are the good times truly over for good? America's oldest living man (Joe Biden) seems to think so...
Not to worry folks, we discuss some happy topics along the way in this episode as well. These subjects include but are not limited to:
We thank you kindly for tuning in!
Oh hi there, it's been a few weeks - we've been busy improving the podcast in absolutely no way. We've actually been traveling and making personal moves, but we're back (this week we can promise, at least). In this episode, we catch up with Kyle before ranting a bit on the new CoVID policies (when will this end? WHEN?), before taking a bit more of a serious turn into the Afghanistan situation and how it was handled. Finally, we discuss sports - Messi moving to PSG, NBA, NFL, and the usual finishing thoughts on sports. Hit us up on Instagram (@homespunyak). Enjoy, or don't.
In this recent episode of the HSY, the broskis discuss the dramatic ending to the Euro Cup Final and the different reactions across the globe. Nic in particular was very distraught by the result LOL.
The guys then turn towards the next major sporting event around the corner that will inevitably capture the eyes of a global audience- The Tokyo Olympics. The absurdity of banning Sha'Carri Richardson for a positive THC test is compared to the Olympics allowing a Trans Woman to compete with Biological Women in the weightlifting competition. The Olympics would rather secure sponsorships through virtue signaling than focus on the health/safety and financial well-being of it's athletes... who at the end of the day bring in all of the global viewership! Nic and Kyle are making a stand and will be #boycotting the Olympics. Try to have a successful Olympics now without the backing of the Homespun Yak!
We thank you for backing us and listening!
In this episode, the guys spend a good amount of time discussing the recent loss by France to Switzerland, as well as the Spanish victory over Croatia, along with many other games as Kyle makes predictions on the future of the tournament. There's maybe 2 minutes of NBA talk before Nic describes his initial thoughts on the new documentary "LFG" describing women's struggle for equal pay on the National Soccer Team, before they both discuss the challenges ahead of a just fight therein.
Of course the guys kick things off with a short recap of how the first round of the Euros are playing out. Kyle describes how he felt seeing Christian Eriksen collapse on the field from cardiac arrest in Denmark's match against Finland and the guys briefly discuss whether or not ESPN should have had cameras on the moment as it transpired. Finally, to round out the sports segment, they take a look at where things stands in regards to the NBA playoffs and how the Brooklyn Nets went from clear cut favorites to potentially packing their bags early due to star power injuries.
Nic then mentions he is taking a break from caffeine intake for at least a week in order to re-calibrate his tolerance levels. In order to be at a normal functioning level, he would have to down a pot of coffee and 4 Bang energy drinks all before noon. We are all hoping his body can handle a reduction, but we are realists...
Towards the end of the show, the guys discuss a recent JRE Podcast episode with Harvard Prof Carole Hooven. She is an evolutionary biologist who has studied testosterone's impact on human behavior throughout history and is providing some very intriguing insight into it's effects on trans men who decide to undergo hormone therapy. She also discusses how this subject has divided opinions in modern society and how difficult the teaching experience is for her in a setting where the sensitive students want to dictate how the course is taught based on their emotional feelings on the matter.
In this episode, the guys start off running into the soccer world as Kyle breaks down the looming Euro Cup that begins Friday. Will France be victorious through the World Cup into the Euro, or will the weaselly English take the European crown? What group is the group of death? Kyle breaks it all down and Nic pretends to know what a soccer ball looks like. Then, the guys enter hot water again as they discuss a specific trans athlete competing in the Olympics - should it be allowed? Should government get involved?
This week the guys don't discuss anything controversial at all. They certainly don't give their strong opinions on Rammstein cancelling their stadium tour due to Covid, trans women competing in sports against biological women, or Joe Biden getting preferential treatment from the media.
Tune in with an open mind and be sure to listen to ALL the information discussed before jumping to conclusions about their feelings and thoughts. The guys propose a revolutionary method of thinking before speaking in a world where that rarely occurs (especially on social media). Also find out how Nic would handle being bullied in the Boys room by Elliot Page and how the Wim Hof breathing technique could be used in your life to reduce stress/anxiety.
Thanks for subscribing!
In this episode, the guys discuss a variety of subjects from the heavy handed to the inquisitive. First, they start off discussing the Palestine situation currently going on from a limited point of view, before spring boarding into the CoVID mask relaxation. Then, the guys go into the subject of woketivism and how people can relate to one another if they get so wrapped up in their leftist ways - does comedy still stand a chance in its non-PC ways? Are movies limited to acceptable topics? Are words being erased from the "acceptable"? That, and more, on this episode of the Homespun Yak! *Dragon Ball Z music*
Listen as the guys mansplain the social and biological factors important in determining sexual attraction between the sexes!
There is a term that gets tossed around in today's society (at times way too casually) called "Toxic Masculinity". The guys try to break down what exactly this term means and why there can be both negative and positive connotations attributed to it.
They then discuss whether or not folks in today's society are adopting enough personal responsibility for a successful and meaningful life by referencing Dr Jordan Peterson's 4th Rule "Notice that opportunity lurks where responsibility has been abdicated" in his new book "Beyond Order".
Finally, they examine how the "participation award" for children in America involved in spots or competitive activities is actually damaging to our overall success as a nation and ruining our drive/ambition to be #1. You should never be rewarded for being a loser. The devastation of being defeated should motivate you to come up with a plan for success in the future.
This week, Kyle releases a solo podcast where he mostly rambles. Often stopping to wonder, "how did I end up talking about Covid when only moments ago I was speaking about golf?" Strap in for a wild ride folks and be sure to stay til the end where he reads Part 1 of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson's "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas".
The gang will be reunited on next week's episode if we can get Nic out of jail!
