In this week's episode of HSY, the guys discuss the ramifications of turning 30 and whether or not societal expectations are presented differently to men and women at this age. Nic has much more wisdom and knowledge in this particular field as he has been 30 for quite some time now...
In our mandatory Sports segment of the podcast, we discuss the buildup to both NFL divisional championship games as well as the highly anticipated Conor McGregor and Donald Cerrone UFC main event. We reminisce on certain musical acts we've seen in the past and talk about how a particular "raw" element within the performance makes live shows incredibly special to behold.
Finally, Nic gives a really well rounded overview of creatine consumption and its effects not only within the weight lifting community, but for those who take it on a daily basis as a supplement. Kyle then ends the podcast on a potentially daunting note when describing what a scenario might look like if 100% tariffs on all European imported wine to the US were imposed.

In this episode, the guys jump into a bit of the present NFL landscape in the divisional weekend with the shocking loss of the Ravens to the Titans. Then, they catch up on Kyle's surgery and his recovery to lead into another area of medicine - cancer. Finally, they discuss, with Kyle telling the story of when he got to see Rush live, the passing of Neil Peart - one of the greatest drummers of all time and what this likely means for the band going forward. Check it out, joint he conversation on IG (@homespunyak).
The gang's all here! Kyle returns to the Podcast after last week's ACL absence and brings along an old friend for the first episode of 2020! We were excited to finally have the ever elusive Will Haynes in studio to discuss a plethora of current events and shared interests.
Up first, we discuss the recent air strike authorized by Trump to take out Iran's highest ranking general, Quassem Soleimani, and what potential repercussions could ensue from the aftermath in the Middle East and in the United States. We examine turbulent hotspots throughout the planet that have always been notorious for war and violence and try to understand why particular nations have access to nuclear weapons while others don't. Will then comes clean about his true and undying love for Lamar Jackson while the guys discuss the current playoff picture in the NFL and share their Super Bowl predictions. Lastly, we talk Will's interest and past studies in European History and learn that he has a particular interest in The Eastern Front during World War II. A number of "what if" scenarios are proposed by Nic throughout this discussion and we come to find out that the troops in the Soviet Union's Red Army should be given much more credit in defeating Hitler's forces, stopping the spread of Facism and ultimately ending the war.

In this final week of 2019, Nic goes down his self-created rabbit hole by which he discusses the science, physiology, of Kyle's surgery. He goes into a bit of gory detail on how the immune system, the nervous system, the muscular system, and skeletal system all play roles in clean up and recovery of the body. This is a solo episode, because Kyle is still experiencing some serious pain from surgery just a few days ago. I hope this proves interesting, at the least - we hope to have Kyle back next week! Have a great new year!
Hi all, Merry Christmas to those who celebrate and Happy Holidays to everyone. The guys start this episode talking Kyle's surgery, Nic tells the story of when he (casually) saw a demon, and Kyle explains a bit of the violence and generally turbulent behavior within hooliganism in sports, but certainly focused in soccer/football. The guys also discuss the coming Olympics and a bit on the Russian ban from the Euro Cup and the Olympics. Check it out and be sure to rate us on your podcast platform - hope you have a good week!
Coming in hot with a new episode of Homespun Yak! Nic breaks down the recent surge in Vegan popularity by addressing his views on the documentary "The Game Changers" and the subsequent debate held between the film's star James Wilks and Paleo Diet proponent Chris Kresser on the Joe Rogan Podcast.
The guys go on to highlight the impact Disney has had on the Star Wars franchise by discussing their new series "The Mandalorian" and ways in which they can continue to generate new ideas and massive revenue together far into the future.
Finally, side stories are shared about a murderous giraffe, a woman hitchhiking in Spain who's heart stopped for 4 hours, the glory days of the powerhouse that is/was Franklin Academy Basketball, the perpetually agonizing roller coaster ride of emotions that NC State athletics provides their fans with every season, and the infamous Struwwelpeter...

This week, the guys are joined by Nic's medical graduate school classmate and friend, Bobby Lease. Bobby studies the brain and various mental illnesses in the lab, but also knows much on the history and expression of psychedelic drugs - which dominates a fascinating discussion wherein Kyle and Bobby bounce ideas off one another and Nic chimes in a cent or two from time to time. We had an absolute blast having Bobby on as he educated us on shrooms, LSD, DMT, and hybrid weed. Join the fun!
