  • Positivity in Tribalism?, Socialism, and the Tiger King

In this episode, the guys start out discussing a bit more on the coronavirus (CoVID-19) before swiftly moving onto a book Kyle just finished on tribalism and the positive stories involved. After some time discussing, Nic goes on a bit about intermittent fasting, and then they jump into the economic stimulus plan proposed and ratified by the U.S. government for 2.2 trillion dollars (we make that in a week), and how much it will actually help the individual. Finally, they also touch on the craziness of "The Tiger King". Tune in and forget about viruses (at least, after the first few minutes).

  • The Pessimistic Podcast of Pandemic Proportions

Don't worry folks, it's not all negativity on this week's episode of Homespun Yak. We manage to slide in thin slices of optimism when discussing what's been on the forefront of the everyone's mind - the great toilet paper crisis of 2020. In all seriousness though, we are all sailing through uncharted waters and we can't exactly predict what lies ahead over the horizon. In spite of this, we discuss some of the statistics we do know currently regarding at risk age groups, debunk conspiracy theorists, and discuss how humans have dealt with pandemics throughout history. We talk about how the pandemic is directly impacting our lives and those around us. For example, all small businesses (like your favorite restaurants) are severely suffering during this time by not being able to remain open and fully staffed. While nobody would turn away $1000 a month, we need to encourage our local, state and federal government representatives to work in tandem with local businesses to create a stimulus package that would ensure they can return to normalcy once this crisis subsides. Take one day at a time, be nice to strangers and cough/sneeze into your elbow, damnit!

  • Coronavirus, US Marine Life, and Roommate Tales w/Alex Teasdale

In this episode, the guys are joined by special guest Alex Teasdale whom both know well - especially Nic who had to live with Mr. Teasdale for some time through college. The guys weigh in on the coronavirus situation before getting into the trenches with Alex's life as a Marine Corps officer (Captain!). Then, they go down some memories from when Nic and Alex were roommates and their bonding over lifting and metal core music. We apologize for the, frankly, terrible audio quality, but we experienced several technical difficulties that we thought we'd be able to fix, but ended up being insurmountable. Still, the content is a fun filled episode, as we hope all are. Tune in. let us know your thoughts, and stay safe out there!

  • Coronavirus Quarantines, The Arnold Classic, and The Art of Running

In this week's edition of Homespun Yak, Nic comes in roaring hot fueled by constant mental mobility, project deadlines, and caffeinated tea! The conversation begins by discussing the spread of the Coronavirus into North Carolina (breaking news), how long the virus can lie dormant in your system (2 weeks!) before expressing itself with violent flu like/respiratory symptoms, and what Nic would do if someone directly infected him.

Kyle then gives us a brief overview on the Arnold Schwarzenegger Classic taking place in Columbus, OH this weekend. Powerlifters, strongmen, bodybuilders and just overall record-breaking athletes flock to this competition to showcase their ever-increasing, mind boggling feats of strength. Nic then gives a detailed explanation of the "athlete's paradox", which leads to a conversation on Dr. George Sheehan's classic book, "Running and Being." Not only can this work inspire all types of people to run harder and further than they thought physically possible for themselves, but gives a keen insight on how running can change your mental and spiritual well being for the better. A highly recommended read for all that are majorly or slightly intrigued by the idea of running long distances.

  • The 1000 Acre Question, an Internet-less World, and Pete Buttigeg

In this episode, the guys start off with a bang by getting into three questions: 1. If you were about to get into a fight, what pump up song would you listen to?; 2. If you were given 1000 acres of land - what should you do with it?; 3. If the Internet were never invented, how different do you think life would be?. Then, in breaking news, the guys discuss the surprising news of Pete Buttigeg stepping down from the presidential race. I'ts packed and full of fun - share your opinions @homespunyak, via Instagram!

  • Pool Hall Mismatches, Coupon Dating and Our First Q & A Session with Special Guest - Stewart Powell

Longtime friend and former High School Basketball teammate/dominant inside force, Stewart Powell joins us on episode 34 of HSY this week and he wants to make it VERY CLEAR that he is taken and off the market ladies! He and Nic both recorded from our studio (Nic's apt) in Baltimore and discuss some very intense pool matches at "The Wharf Rat" held over the weekend against the chain wallet gang. If someone is still rocking a chain wallet in 2020, you may want to avoid doing business with them altogether. We then transition to our new "Q&A" segment of the podcast where we rattled off a few questions submitted by an anonymous source/friend of the podcast by the alias of "Early Cuyler". We'd love to continue to answer some fan mail, so if you have a question/comment/concern, please let us know by sliding in our DMs @homespunyak or shooting us an email at [email protected]. Finally, we round things out by analyzing Nic's question, "Is it ok to use a coupon on a first date?" Tune in and subscribe!

  • Dating based on Height, Kyle in Enemy Territory (UNC), and Surviving the Imminent United States Super-Volcano

In this episode, the guys start off discussing a bit of the hypocrisy related to dating in terms of weight vs height between women and men. Then, they eventually find themselves discussing the heart breaking (not so much for them) loss by UNC to Virginia that Kyle witnessed fist hand. There's a sprinkle of sports, and then they expertly diagnose and treat a growing concern in the United States from an imminent super-volcano at Yosemite that could cause severe damage to the United States. Check it!

  • Chasing Adrenaline, Marijuana, and "What sparks long lost memories?"

In this episode, the guys go down a few rabbit holes from adrenaline junkies involving squirrel suits to a long discussion of weed and its legalization. The second half rounds out with a more philosophical discussion into Newton and the question, "is it harder to be a renaissance person in the modern day or in Newton's time?". Finally, Kyle brings up a musing on what causes us to recollect memories that seemed dormant for years, even decades - check it out and let us know your thoughts on @homespunyak (instagram)!

  • Golf like an Amateur, Make Friends as an Adult, and Dream Lucidly

In this week's episode of the HSY, Nic and Kyle jump right into the state of super bowl commercials and wonder how many millions will be pumped into the negativity of political warfare between the Democrats and Republicans on the night of America's biggest game. Kyle then gives a pretty well-rounded explanation of the game of golf by examining the rules, club specifications and the extreme difficulty of the sport for amateurs like you and I. Nic then switches gears by posing the question, "Is it more difficult to form true friendships with other people when you are a child or when you are an adult?" Tune in to get our take on the answer to this question as well as an update in the field of neuroscience regarding a brand new study that has come to light on lucid dreaming. Hope you enjoy and have a fantastic week!
