They say communication is key and we agree. The communication of love is perhaps the most important key. Do you know how to most effectively show your partner love? On today’s episode, we break down the five love languages and discuss incorporating them into life and relationships.
What can I do to improve conflict resolution in my relationship?
How can I show my partner I love them?
How are my children being impacted by my marriage and the way my partner and I show love?
James and Beth Deppa welcome Dr. Gary Chapman, NYT best-selling author, having written many books on marriage, family, and relationships, including the famous book The Five Love Languages. Dr. Chapman lives in North Carolina with his wife, Karolyn, and has been married for 49 years. He writes often about his journey, which actually started off a little rocky. He travels the world presenting seminars on marriage, family, and relationships, and his radio programs air on more than 400 stations. In this episode, Dr. Chapman shares stories of learning how to speak love languages and gives powerful advice for people who wish to enhance their marriage or their bond with loved ones.
Knowing how your partner receives love and then giving love in a way that aligns with that is crucial to a long-term, romance-filled relationship. Tune into this week’s episode for insight from the expert himself into how to best incorporate the five love languages into your relationship to foster a healthy, loving bond.
3 MAJOR POINTS DISCUSSED
● The five love languages are words of affirmation, acts of service/kindness, gifts, physical touch, and quality time. You can speak love in all five ways, but if you don’t speak their primary language, they will not feel love.
● Discovering each other’s love language and then choosing to speak it creates a very positive climate around your relationship and your life. It’s easier to resolve conflicts and face the traumas that may come into your life if you both feel genuinely loved by each other. You may find it difficult to learn your partner’s love language and that’s okay. If you grew up in a family that did not use words of affirmation, it’ll be difficult to learn words of affirmation, but you can learn it. Just take baby steps and make the effort. It will eventually get easier and more natural. Dr. Gary Chapman details how you can figure out your own love language, as well as your partner’s, and how you can teach yourself to show love in that language.
● Learn how to apologize to each other, because no one is perfect. Walls built between you and your partner is the result of putting up emotional barriers, which often result from arguments. Apologizing and forgiving one another is the way to break down those barriers. People also have different ways of apologizing and about 10% of people never apologize for anything, so it’s important to learn what your partner believes is a sincere apology so that you’ll know how to truly apologize to them. Conflicts are a common challenge in marriages. Listening with empathy and asking questions to understand what your partner is feeling is crucial for solving conflicts. Have you been a good listener recently?

When couples have issues in their relationships, it can be challenging to figure out where to start when trying to heal those issues. On today’s episode, we discuss the five areas of a relationship that are the most important to focus on.
Do I need to love myself before I find love in someone else?
What do I need to work on in order to strengthen my relationship?
What does respect look like in a healthy relationship?
James and Beth Deppa, the perpetual honeymooners, discuss self-love, respect, trust and honesty, open communication, and passion in terms of partnership.
Being in sync with your partner’s feelings, desires, thoughts, and overall essence is essential for a relationship to have minimal stress and maximal love. Tune into this week’s episode for insight into how to effectively incorporate these five factors into your relationship to achieve The Honeymoon Mindset.
OUTLINE OF THIS EPISODE
● We went to Yellowstone! [00:43]
● Introducing the 5 most important factors in a relationship [4:31]
● Self-love as a factor in a successful relationship [6:04]
● Respecting each other and yourself [20:38]
● Trust & Honesty [28:58]
● Open communication is a must [36:52]
● Passion [43:49]
● Not being in sync often results in stress + What to expect next week [49:20]
3 MAJOR POINTS DISCUSSED
● Respect is a two-way street and it goes very far. What is respect and how does it show up in relationships? Respect is recognizing and avoiding bringing harm to something. In a relationship, this can be applied to one another’s space, privacy, professions, hobbies, opinions, words, and so much more. Having open communication and letting one another talk, while listening to what they’re saying, is a way of showing respect. Being kind and remaining non-judgmental is respect. How do you show respect to your partner?
● As they say, communication is key. We’ve heard it time and time again, but are you implementing affective communication strategies in your relationship? Communicating proactively helps avoid issues later on, which can save you a lot of time and energy. Asking questions in order for each other to feel comfortable and safe with each other is also important. Is there something you haven’t been communicating to your partner about? We challenge you to bring it to the surface!
● Don’t let the passion fizzle out. What does passion mean to you? It could mean helping one another in life, it could relate to sex and intimacy, it could be showing love, appreciation, and gratitude. Whatever passion means to you, remember to consistently incorporate it into your daily life. James and Beth love starting and ending their day with a kiss (or many). How sweet!

Do you struggle getting on the same page with your spouse in times of struggle? On today's episode, we discuss an issue that a lot of parents struggle with, and it's none other than actually parenting.
How do you get on the same page regarding parenting with your spouse?
What can I do to repair a crumbling marriage?
How can I become a better role model to my kids and build a stronger bond with them?
How can I continue to raise my kids properly during the shutdown?
James and Beth Deppa welcome the owners of Badass Family Coaching, Matthew and Kimberly Mullin. They have been married 19 years and have 3 young children.
No matter how much you and your partner love each other, when kids enter the equation, it can become difficult to maintain that same level of attention and compassion. This leads to a slippery slope in your marriage that could end badly unless you become aware and nip it in the bud as soon as possible. Matthew and Kimberly tells us that it all starts with both parents getting on the same page, and working from there.
2 MAJOR POINTS DISCUSSED
● When marital problems arise, you have to work on yourself before you can work together. Ego plays a huge role in most conflicts, and it's no different—though it's potentially a more dangerous factor—in marriage. Communication and empathy are huge keys in solving marital issues; but how can you properly communicate with and empathize with your significant other if you're unable to fully admit, out loud, your own faults? Dig deep and come to terms with what your flaws are and let your husband or wife know that you're aware, and that you're willing to change. It's only when you're able to be truly humble and honest with each other that you can both take steps to address the issue together.
● Put in the effort to make each other feel appreciated. Being married doesn't mean that both spouses have to give 50% each to make things work. Rather, marriage requires 100% from both spouses. When problems arise, it almost doesn't matter whose fault it was. Arguing will only cause you to drift apart, and the conflict will never be resolved regardless of who initially made a mistake. Both will feel unappreciated. You need to give to get. You both have to come together and see things from each other's point of view. That's when you come to an understanding, figure out how to solve the problem, and thank each other afterwards. You'll also come to appreciate each other more after the fact.

Do you struggle with feeling negative or down about yourself? On today's episode, we discuss how self-esteem and confidence are like muscles; they need to be exercised in order to grow!
How can I tell if my loved one has low self-esteem or low confidence and how can I support them?
What can I do to build my own confidence and self-esteem?
How can I support my spouse in these areas?
How do I surround myself with good people?
James and Beth Deppa welcome author, YouTuber, podcaster, project manager, and mindset and confidence coach, Jonny Pardoe, to answer all of these questions and more!
It's not realistic to be super confident and have high self-esteem all day every day, but there are steps you can take to grow those areas of yourself. Tune into this week's episode for powerful tips for building confidence and growing your self-esteem, as well as advice for how you and your partner can support each other's confidence and self-esteem.
2 MAJOR POINTS DISCUSSED
● There are many ways to strengthen your self-esteem and build confidence. Self-esteem is like a muscle, you have to work it to make it stronger. The more you work your self-esteem, the more likely you are to exude confidence! A great place to start is speaking to yourself nicely and making sure you're taking in positive information. Avoid filling your surrounding with negative news and negative Nancy's. Surround yourself with positivity by consuming constructive content and having a loving support system. Do the things that make you feel uncomfortable. Venture outside of your safety zone to grow as a person and build your confidence. Jonny emphasizes the importance of having an accountability partner to help you stick to your intentions and reach your goals.
● Support your partner's self-esteem and confidence. Have you noticed your partner feeling down about themselves? Jonny offers great tips for helping to boost your loved one's self-esteem and confidence, including complimenting each other, expressing appreciation, and prioritizing spending time with them. Communication with the self and with your partner is key, so asking what you can do to support them when you notice something is off can go a long way. Remember, no one is perfectly confident all the time, so it's important to accepting each other's flaws and give them space to be their true selves.

Honeymoon Mindset Episode Four: We are answering your questions received from email, Honeymoon Mindset Facebook group, Direct messages.
Many people question the quality of education their children are receiving and wonder if they would be better off teaching their kids themselves. On today's episode, we discuss how a non-traditional homeschooling system can be more effective in preparing children and teenagers for the adult world than any other type of schooling.
How do I create a high quality educational atmosphere at home?
How would my kids get the social interaction and street smarts they need to survive in the world?
Do I need any fancy technology to make this happen?
James and Beth Deppa welcome Jes and Reid Richardson, a couple with five children who have been homeschooling in an experimental way using wild curiosity, to delve into these important questions.
Not everyone is cut out for homeschooling, and that's understandable, but 2020 is the perfect time to start questioning whether homeschooling can be a better route for you and your children, especially if they have ADHD or Asperger Syndrome. Tune into this week's episode for incredible stories and examples of Jes and Reid's radical education model, showing how studying global school systems changed their family's lives for the better.
3 MAJOR POINTS DISCUSSED
● Nurture the hearts and minds of children to inspire learning. Jes and Reid teach their children by fostering wild curiosity and answering every question their kids throw at them. Their home environment promotes self-respect, self-worthiness, emotional education, boundaries, consent, and interpersonal relationships. They don't force education, they wait until their kids are ready and willing to learn. Jes and Reid offer great insight into how a non-traditional, experimental, and holistic schooling system really can provide children and teenagers with a higher quality education that properly prepares them for the adult world.
● Kids need to experience technology. It's 2020 and technology is unavoidable at this point, but it's important to know which types of technology are the most ideal for an educational experience. From Minecraft to Adobe Creative Suite, Jes and Reid have mindfully incorporated technology to encourage learning in fun and creative ways. Are you aware of how your kids are using technology?
● How do I get my kids to willingly help me around the house? "Life is so much more than getting a job," Jes says. Jes and Reid love having real conversations with their children to foster emotional intelligence and to empower them to do things for themselves. If you stink, you can't hang out around the family. If you eat off a plate, you clean the plate. It's as simple as that. This results in the kids naturally becoming more capable of doing life tasks and willingly taking on more responsibilities as they get older. Children love being able to do things that adults can do, so why not raise them in a way that makes that possible?

welcome to honeymoon mindset. We are passionate about helping everyone being in everlasting honeymoon phase. Just like us. We will teach you how to get to paradise and your relationship and stay there for the long haul. Shy away from real talk. No way we covered all fights, sex past relationship. Family issues and a way more, we are your host, Beth and James Deepa.
All right. Welcome to honeymoon mindsets. I'm James Deppa here in Lake city, Minnesota coming to you live. And this is my wonderful wife, Beth, how are you doing Beth? I'm doing good. Do they show we're just going to talk about honeymoon mindset. Just get to know us and who we are. [00:01:00] I said, I'm James. I'm on my second good marriage with Beth together.
We have seven kids. I have five myself. She has two. My first marriage lasted 15 years. It was a little Rocky decided to end it. A year or so later I met Beth at work when I worked for TSA in Rochester, Minnesota, and we got married and 15 five, eight years later, we want to bring what we've learned, what we've experienced and what we've worked on together to make our relationship the way it is.
No right. I'm Beth and her stories are pretty similar. I was married about 16 years. And like he also mentioned, had, uh, two boys from my first marriage. They are now 19 and 22 and trying to navigate life primarily on their own right now between college and work and whatnot. Our situations were fairly similar.
Once we became [00:02:00] friends at work and started talking about things that were going on, I guess both him and I were. Pretty reserved in talking about what was really going on in our lives until we became closer friends. And then it just started to come out and we were able to open up to each other, gain that trust, I guess, and come to find out we were very similar and our, yeah, our friendship just grew.
And eventually, like you mentioned, got married in 2015, but we have learned a lot in the time that we've been friends and been married and. Talking about the different things that we'd gone through in our previous marriages with our kids. And we have come out stronger on the other end and we are over the moon happy and we want everyone to be.
And like Beth said, we kept everything inside. And for me, towards the end of my first marriage, my favorite song, I think it's Kelly Clarkson song. [00:03:00] You know, this better than I do, babe. The one that talks about hitting the bridge pillar and stuff. That's where I was at. That's how I was feeling in my first marriage, because of it.
I wasn't feeling wanted, I wasn't feeling needed, always causing problems and issues. And Beth was there to help afterwards talk and pick the pieces up, helped me figure out why, but we really started going through ourselves, a mindset change just over a year ago. It started with Beth, with her son. Alright.
And we both agreed that if we, we wanted him to make some changes or we knew he needed to make changes, we wanted to make changes in ourselves. And that's where started. So from there we worked on ourselves and then we started listening to Rob dial the mindset mentor, did a challenge there, and then we they've gotten incense involved [00:04:00] with, uh, Tony Robbins and Dean Graziosi.
