Just prior to Hoover’s arrival in South America, anarchists attempted to blow up the train he and Mrs. Hoover would be riding on. The group planned to set charges on the tracks before Hoover’s train crossed the Argentinian central plain. You'll get the details here. 

Herbert Hoover became recognized as the Master of Emergencies in the early 1900’s, as he seemingly routinely found himself leading the relief efforts of a large scale crisis. We'll detail those efforts in this Hoover Headline.

During the short session of Congress, Hoover proposed it would be helpful to both parties to carry out the disagreeable tasks of cutting expenditures and increasing taxes. Thus, Roosevelt could take charge with an unpopular job out of the way. Congress considered this action to be much in the nation's and Roosevelt's interest. For a few weeks, anyway. 

In his memoirs, President Hoover hoped he and the incoming President-elect could cooperate on outstanding problems if the economic recovery of the nation were to continue. That wasn't going to happen.

As the class valedictorian in high school, Lou Henry was asked to present a commencement address – which recently was found sealed in a picture frame behind her high school diploma, dated June 19, 1890. We'll tell you what's in it!

Shortly after the Hoover's built a fishing retreat in the Appalachian Mountains they discovered there was no school for the local children - so they built one!

Shortly after Hoover took office, he met with White House physician Joel T. Boone for the customary physical.  Boone recommended that Hoover lose twenty-five pounds via a reducing diet and improve his lungs by practicing deep breathing exercises out in fresh air. This is how he did it.

Hoover arrived at the conclusion that a horse was one of the original mistakes of creation. Although later in life, his sentiment of horses was replaced with his disdain of another animal adapted to navigate desolate terrain: camels. 

In September 1921, Lou Henry Hoover began a cross-country trip with her father Charles. Driving a 1919 Cadillac, the trip would take 34 days to wind its way over nearly 4,000 miles as they traveled from San Francisco to Washington, DC with brief stops in Iowa at Boone, Le Grand, Waterloo, Iowa City and West Branch. Supervisory archivist Craig Wright will offer highlights and colorful anecdotes from the trip.

In Hoover’s day, the American Healthcare system offered little hope. It seems each generation will face their own unique uncertainties at some point in their lives.
