Dear Morning Show -
My name is Melonie. My mom, Pam, was diagnosed with lung cancer, stage 3,
last year at Christmastime. She did numerous rounds of chemo and radiation and was put into remission.
She’s had numerous MRIs and CT scans and that has added up to a big expense for medical bills. (She does have medicare and they pay 80%) A few months ago, she went back to be tested to make sure everything was still looking good and they found three spots on her brain.
Two in the front and one in the back. Cancer that was listed as stage 3. She went through radiation again, but they could not do chemo because it wouldn’t help. We stuck with just the radiation and they said there’s a good chance that it would take care of it. In the meantime, my dad was driving back and forth 65 miles daily for her treatments and the gas cost was really hard on them.
They are struggling and can’t afford to keep up with everything. The doctor has told them that it’s likely the cancer could come back and also told them it could come back in her abdomen which would be harder to treat due to the location. My parents cannot afford groceries half the time and just have a really rough time making ends meet. They are the type of people who would give you the shirt off
their back if they could. My parents have been so good to me and I would appreciate any kind of help that could be given to them. It’s just a lot of stress on my mom and dad and I didn’t know what else to do.
Thanks for reading my letter and happy holidays. - Melonie.
