  • EP:17 “ F*** It, I Need Help "– Callum Mellor
➡️ Introducing Callum Mellor, who is a son, a friend and most importantly in the driver's seat of his own life.
As a child Callum always felt like something was missing. He was scared of the world and would avoid venturing out. 🙁
You could often find him indoors watching The Simpson's. The Simpson's planted some ideals around drinking and the culture of this environment and at the age of 12, Callum had his first drink. 🍺
He found he was more confident in being himself, was comfortable venturing into the world now he had found this new way of living. 🙌
Soon after he would find himself trying to get his hands on the drink anyway he could, whether it meant buying it or stealing it etc. 👈
This would take him on a pathway of destruction and although he knew something needed to change, he wasn't sure where or how to get support. 😔

  • EP:15 “ My Brother Lost His Life to Mental Illness “– Tom Augustsson
➡️ Introducing Tom Augustsson who is originally from parts of Northern Europe who is very passionate about speaking about mental illness, educating others on recognizing signs, and helping to break the associated stigma. ✅
When Tom arrived at work, he noticed a lot of his colleagues had arrived late that morning, not thinking too much of this he continued his day.
🤔 At 9.45 am he received a phonecall from his father and was met with the sound of heavy breathing as he could not speak. Eventually, his mother jumped on the line and uttered eight words…
We’re very sorry, your brother John has died. 😭 Tom’s stomach dropped, he was in shock and grief and would soon learn that the impact of his brother’s passing had not only affected him and his family, but it had rippled out to so many others on that day.
😢 Much later I would often think to myself if this were preventable if we could’ve helped John in some way the first responders, the staff, the patrons they would not have been impacted by the trauma of being at that event on that day.
💯 Tom is now an advocate for GROW which is a 12-step program mental health support program based on lived experience which helps people recovering from mental illness based on similar principles of AA. 👍
After utilising their services for himself, they really helped educate Tom with strategies, tools, and understanding more about people and the reasons they might abuse substances or similar. You can check them out here: https://grow.org.au/
👈 Tom also advocates for Arafmi who provides quality support, education, and advocacy services to people with mental illness, their families, and carers. If you are interested in the services, they offer please feel free to check out their link: www.arafmi.com.au

Working for yourself has its benefits, you’re able to schedule things so they work for you and if you’re offered a alcoholic drink at 8am you can have it. 🍺
When this offer was made by a client, the older versions of Alan would’ve taken to this drink offer like a moth to a flame, without any hesitation at all however this time it was different. 👈
This time, Alan thought about whether or not he actually needed that drink. Considering how it would impact his already busy schedule for the day. 🤔
This conversation would be a pinnacle point for Alan which would send him on a journey through conversations with friends and a great book he read called “The Alcohol Experiment” by Annie Grace 📖
