Weej 💚 Dr. Schivel, but she and Trixie ignored Andrew Beyer’s prescient warning to pay attention to Aloha West, who simply smoked by at the end for a photo finish to Win. *sigh* A zombie Pick 3 is like having your pet turn Cujo.

4:15 Del Mar’s RACE 4 was the Breeders Cup Filly and Mare Sprint (G1) for a $1 million-dollar purse at 7 furlongs on the dirt. Only 5 horses. Estilo Talentoso was a regrettable scratch. Gamine is a highly-regarded speedball out of Into Mischief and Bella Sofia looked good, too, but Mike McCarthy’s CeCe took the Win!

8:00 Del Mar’s RACE 5 was the Breeders Cup Turf Sprint (G1) for $1M. At five furlongs with 18 horses, we expected loads of scratches. 12 horses finally ran. Weej 💕Golden Pal and Lieutenant Dan. Trixie actually listened—this exacta won!

12:08 Golden Pal is another Uncle Mo kid! (Dr. Schivel is another notable one. He’s in the next podcast with Races 8 through 12.)

13:30 Del Mar’s RACE 6 was the Big Ass Fans Breeders Cup Dirt Mile for $1M. Weej and Trixie LOVE the name Snapper Sinclair, which never profits them 😂. Life is Good is an Into Mischief kid, a Pletcher speed freak, but Baffert’s Eight Rings was more game than we expected, and Silver State underperformed.

18:50 Del Mar’s RACE 7 was the Maker’s Mark Breeders Cup Filly and Mare Turf (G1) at 1 3/8 miles for $2M. 💔 because Weej’s partly-owned Going to Vegas lost after a heroic battle. Her temperament explains why stalkers Loves Only You (Japan), My Sister Nat (France), and Warlike Goddess swooped into Win, Place, and Show respectively.

Del Mar’s RACE 7 was the Breeders Cup NetJets Juvenile Fillies (G1), covering a length of 1 & 1/16 miles on a dirt track for a total $2 million dollar purse. (If the race doesn’t specifically say it’s on turf, the default track surface in the U.S. is dirt.)

These 2 year-old fillies really looked young and adorable! Echo Zulu and Juju’s Map were speedballs to watch for the future!

11:06 Del Mar’s RACE 8 was the Breeders Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (G1), covering 1 mile for $1M. Longer-shot Pizza Bianca, chef Bobby Flay’s horse, came in and blew up our horizontal wagers (Pick 3, 4, etc.) 😂

15:31 Del Mar’s RACE 9 was the Breeders Cup Juvenile (G1), covering 1 & 1/16 miles for $2M. (If the race doesn’t mention specifically “fillies or mares,” it’s intended for colts and geldings. Exceptional fillies rarely compete in these races.)

Corniche Won, and Pappacap Placed. Trixie and Weej must try to remember to Take the Wins!

The result was a No Contest ruling with an ALL PAY for the Pick 6 mandatory payout, which certainly dissatisfied some bettors. Was it small-track shenanigans or just a mistake in automatic lighting settings after the daylight savings time change?

24:31 Now, scale up that outrage 1000x for RACE 10, the Breeders Cup Juvenile Turf (G1) for $1M.

26:40 Number 2 Albahr was a late scratch, leading Modern Games to be scratched, too. Multi-race bets transferred to the next favored horse, Dakota Gold. Under time pressure, an existing rule allowed Modern games back in to compete for prize money only.

NO ONE COULD BET ON MODERN GAMES, and all the earlier bets were VOIDED and/or SWITCHED. Then… Modern Games WON… and 🤯

32: 37 Tiz the Bomb actually came in to Place (2nd) behind Modern Games—but since all MG wagers were voided or transferred—was declared the WINNER. Trixie profited, but what a crazy mess!
