Housewife of Horrors

The time was 1935. The place, Kansas City. A unassuming young man checks into the President Hotel, for what was supposed to be a one night stay. Over the next couple of days, odd occurrences would unfold from multiple voices being heard from his room to Roland himself, being brutally beaten. But as time goes on, the layers to this onion only deepen with cryptic phone calls and delivered messages to someone from Roland's past coming forward to turn this case on its ear, making it one of Kansas City's oldest unsolved mysteries.  

Kara Kopetsky and Jessica Runions, two girls from Missouri; living their lives, going to school and work, hanging out with friends, and they had their whole lives ahead of them. Neither one of these girls were friends or even knew each other, but they would have one common denominator that would bring them together, falling for the same man. 

In 2007, Kara was dating Kylr Yust. As many relationships go, she tried to end things, but he wasn't having it. It was at this time Kara would go missing and her case would go cold, but not forgotten. 

As time goes on, Kylr is living his life and in 2016, he meets Jessica Runions. They start dating, they go to a house party, and she is never seen again. It isn't long before Kylr is in police custody for related charges. Listen along as I go through the extensive timeline of events from when Kara first went missing to the most recent news that took place in 2021, including witness testimony that unfolded as discoveries are made in the case against Kylr Yust.

This episode is another listener request and one onion of a case. Once Charles Ray Hatcher reached the age of 18, he did nothing but live a life of crime. From his early days of boosting vehicles and petty crimes, he quickly escalates into sexual assaults and multiple murder. When not serving time in prison or trying to escape from prison, Charles Ray Hatcher's violence stretches through numerous states, killing whenever the opportunity presented itself. Listen along as I discuss his decades long timeline of him being a "one man crime wave."

The time was 2014. The place, Westfield New Jersey. Derek and Maria Broaddus was in the market for a newer and bigger home. After some searching, they were able to find their "dream home" with more than enough space for them and their children and in the town where Maria grew up. But their happiness and elation of their new home was short lived when they started receiving dark and ominous letters from a person calling themself, "The Watcher." As they attempt to make renovations and move in, the letters continue to come and the nature of the letters becomes more frightening. With personal details added to the letters, the family goes to the police to try to get some answers. Who is the Watcher? Why is he or they watching this one house? Will this family or the police investigation get any answers to their questions? The time was 1986. The place, Texas. Gino Hernandez was living his best life and was a shining star inside the wrestling ring. He had the looks, the cars, the women, the drugs, and the negative that comes with living life in the fast lane. Fast lane living took its toll, leaving Gino dead and nothing but questions and speculation swirling around his questionable death. Those closest to him speak out about his death and the days leading up to that fateful day, but each person has a different story to tell and the detail just don't match up. Who is telling the truth? Will the whole truth ever come out or will his death be put to rest with what facts that are known?  

In this episode, we cover not just one murder or disappearance, but what is going on in the town of Skidmore Missouri. It seems this small sleepy Midwestern town, doesn't seem to get a break. If it isn't the town bully terrorizing everyone, then it is gruesome murders or mysterious disappearances. Instead of our usual format for the show, we take a bit of a turn and do a movie commentary of the true crime movie, The Town That Dreaded Sundown (1976). For those who are not familiar with the movie or the case, we will be discussing facts about the real case that took place in 1946 and as an unknown masked man, gripped the town of Texarkana with fear of who will be murdered next. The time was 2019. The place, Harlem New York. Jennifer Schlecht was not only a doting mother to her five year old daughter, but she was an advocate for women all around the world. However, she harbored a dark secret, a secret that a lot of people live with. Not wanting to make her problems, the problems of others, she hid her abusive marriage from the outside world. As she was about to make the move to take her daughter and leave, however they both faced an unexpected grim ending that left the world of women's advocacy and the residents of Harlem NY shaken to their cores. 

The time was 2006. The place, New York.  Its days before Imette's 25th birthday. Her and her best friend hit the town for a night of fun and drinking. As the night goes on, Imettte closes down the bar by herself. She last seen alive with an employee from the last bar she made it to and then hours later her body is found dumped in an area that is dark, desolate, and miles from where she was last seen. What happened to her after she left the bar?
