Publisher's Summary:
Fred Dogan is a loving husband and devoted father, dedicated to his family and his work. He's also a recovering alcoholic. When his sanity and sobriety are tested by unthinkable horrors across the course of a year, he finds himself driven to the edge of a spiritual cliff, forced to ponder the ultimate question: can he somehow survive the realization of every husband's and father's worst nightmare, or should he simply step off the ride - into oblivion unknown?
A Straw in the Wind is perhaps Prescott's most poignant tale yet, an emotional tour-de-force of highest literary merit. With its taut prose, vivid imagery, and Prescott's rare ability to breathe three-dimensional life into all of his characters, here is a beautifully rendered novella without the slightest hint of artifice: stirring, succinct, unpredictable, and unforgettable.

Gag me with a spoon!
I didn't expect it to be written by a different Michael Prescott.!
Beautiful and Sublime
When it comes to the actual, unadulterated experience of Reality As It Is, only two words suffice: Beautiful and Sublime. Michael Prescott's works nearly always offer profound glimpses, even extended meditations into the latter of these â but with A Straw in the Wind, Prescott achieves a perfect balance of the two.
"There is but one truly serious philosophical problem and that is suicide."
~Albert Camus
Reality can be ugly, even horrific, and yet, and yetâ
Like all Michael Prescott's works, A Straw in the Wind demonstrates that great quality â rare among contemporary authors â of an absolute refusal to pander to romantic notions. Dispensing with any sugar coatings or soft focus lenses, Prescott reveals it as it is and allows the reader to experience it directly.
The horror, the joy â I couldnât put it down.
Buy this book, read it, and forever after see the world through a new pair of glasses.
Tragedy, despair, but (most of all) HOPE... this one is a tear-jerker in the best possible way!
This is probably my favorite MP book so far. His tone, style, and subject matter have definitely changed significantly over the past 3 years or so, at least with regard to some of his (esp shorter) books, but the changes are most welcome. He's developed a more literary bent, it seems, and it suits him, I think, as much as his crime/suspense/psych thriller persona ever did (and, of course, still does). In short, I love BOTH Michael Prescotts, so to speak, and welcome new books by "either" writer anytime!
This one, in particular, I found to be his most moving and touching ever, or at least in a very long time. It brought a tear to my eye near the end. As one who can relate to alcoholism from a family perspective (my son is an alcoholic), it was particularly stirring. Don't let its length (just 84 pp) fool you into thinking it isn't worth the price: for those who value quality over quantity vis-a-vis the written word, this little pearl of a book is worth twice the cost, IMHO.
Highly recommended to all! :-)
Beautiful Story
This is an absolutely beautiful little book, a gorgeous piece of writing and incredibly moving story. I didn't even realize I was crying until I turned off my Kindle after reading the last page. Wow.
Five Stars
A terrific book.
