    Publisher's Summary:
Roisin and François first meet in the snowy white expanse of Antarctica. And everything changes. While Roisin grew up in a tiny village in Ireland, ablaze with a passion for science and the skies and for all there is to discover about the world, François was raised by his beautiful young mother, who dreamt of new worlds but was unable to turn her back on her past.
As we loop back through their lives, glimpsing each of them only when a comet is visible in the skies above, we see how their paths cross as they come closer and closer to this moment. Theirs are lives filled with love and hope and heartbreak, in a story that shows how strangers can be connected and ghosts can be real, and the world can be as lonely or as beautiful as the comets themselves.

    Sweet
I enjoyed this, esp the comet parts, the analogies and some of the characters
Wasn't always sure of a direction in the novel and wanted it to come to the point quicker
    Disappointed
I was intrigued by this book but found it a disappointment. It just couldn't capture my attention however hard I tried. It might be a good story but unfortunately I found it boring.
    Great touching book
I found this book very beautiful, melancholic and touching. Great voice, characters and way to put the story! Would recommend if you want some stars in your eyes!

Six Scary Stories, selected by Stephen King.
Winning stories from The Bazaar of Bad Dreams Hodder-Guardian competition. The number one best-selling writer Stephen King presents six gripping and chilling stories in this captivating anthology: 'Wild Swimming' by Elodie Harper. 'Eau-de-Eric' by Manuela Saragosa. 'The Spots' by Paul Bassett Davies. 'The Unpicking' by Michael Button. 'La Mort de L'amant' by Stuart Johnstone. 'The Bear Trap' by Neil Hudson.

    Six spine-chilling short stories
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes, Six stories of around 20 minutes in duration each to give you something to do on the bus or train.
What did you like best about this story?
All the stories are good. My personal favourite isn't the actual winner but they're all worth listening to.
What does the narrators bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you had only read the book?
There were several performances as the stories are both narrated but the characters are performed by several people. None of them gave a bad performance.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Not really. They are bite-sized stories and they can be listened to in one sitting but are probably better appreciated one at a time.
    loved it
excellent book, kept me entertained greatly all different stories decent twists and thrilled me. I specially liked how the readers brought the characters to life.
    Meh, won't recommend
I was hoping for a better read but of the 6 stories only 2 left me interested and keen to keep reading. I skipped through most of the others as they were tedious, even being as short as they were. Overall a disappointment.

Clover House is a home run by the local council. Residents are there because their parents, family, or the community can no longer deal with their behavior. Leo French has lived at Clover House for nearly eight years. For Leo life was dull and mundane; that was, until Julie Sykes arrived.
After uncovering Julie's secret, Leo uses his limited time and resources to make her wishes come true. At the time he had no idea it would include foreign travel, theft, and attempted murder....
This tearjerker has so many twists and turns, but I guarantee, you won't see the last one coming.

    Clover House
    Any additional comments?
The book has some funny scenes where Leo is breaking the rules for Julie, and many of them brought a smile to my face. There were though, a couple of events that I found hard to believe, but after reading the final twist everything fell into place and made sense
    A memorable story
    Any additional comments?
I have received a copy of this book in audio format from the author in exchange for an honest review.
From all the residents Leo French is the one who has lived the longest at Cover house, a place where residents end up when their parents, families and loved ones cannot care for them. Leo's life is monotone but not unpleasant, until the day Julie Sykes arrives. Something in her will make Leo break all the possible rules at Clover House and maybe find love.
I have read Cuthbertson's previous book 'Fiestas and Siestas' and I have to say that 'Clover House' theme caught me completely by surprise. I had not read the blurb before starting the book and was expecting some kind of light memoir again. I liked 'Fiestas and Siestas' but I have to say that I absolutely loved 'Clover House'.
The characters are the residents and people in charge of Clover House. Leo and Julie are the main characters, and the most developed ones, but on hindsight, it is amazing how Cuthbertson has depicted them so well but hiding other aspects at the same time, in a way in which the reader does not even suspect that there is something missing.
The book is full of funny scenes where Leo is breaking the rules for Julie, and many of them brought a smile to my face. There were though, a couple of events that I found hard to believe, and in a way, that would have affected my overall experience, but after reading the final twist everything fell into place and made sense. I am not going to give any spoilers since this twist is what makes this book especially charming.
Gaynor M. Kelly did a good job with the narration and expressing the character's emotions. I had the impression though, that she was smiling while narrating, and sometimes during not so happy scenes. It felt like she was doing a narration for kids. Even like that I think the tone was the adequate to the story, and she made clear differences between characters. There is a loud noise just at the end of chapter fifteen, something that should have been edited out.
This is a sad story, but one in which there are small moments of happiness. It is a book to smile, to laugh, but also to cry and think.

    Critic Reviews:
"Pittman's debut novel is a feel-good fantasy...a nice feel for pace and place." (Publishers Weekly)
    Members Reviews:
    Touching, tasteful, well-written.
I am honestly stunned that this is from a first-time author. It is very well-written and while - yes, a bit cliche' in a handful of places - so was the famous "Love Story" which is what this reminds me a lot of. I came to like and empathize with the main characters and enjoyed the transition of our lead man, Brian Duncan, from NYC corporate exec to soul-searching wanderer landing in quaint Linden Corners. And - again - some of the characters are a bit predictable, especially Chuck Akroyd, and some of the scenarios, such as the gals who run the Five-O, are a bit Norman Rockwell 'ish in their portrayal. But so what?! It's an easy read, intelligently written, and a love story you can believe in. What I really appreciate is that the author was able to portray the deep, sensual love of Brian and Annie without getting graphic. Very tasteful and very appropriate to the overall story. And the ending hit me to my core. Even as a GUY (yep), I found myself with some serious tears in my eyes.
Now THAT..... that makes for one heckuva read!
    Four Stars
Nice easy read. I don't like series so will not read any more.
I thought the book was very good and well written

    Heartwarming story
I loved the way the author, Joseph Pittman, presented the story. I also read, The Christmas Hope, The Christmas Wish, The Memory Tree. All were wonderful and I am basically not a reader. I usually fall asleep by the third or fourth page. These books kept me awake.
    Tilting at Windmills
I thought this book was very good. It really hit a spot with the working people who are usually too busy with life to smell the roses (so to speak). I really empathized with the character and what was changing in his life. Gives you something to think about.....is your life the way you want it to be?

    Language: English

    Publisher: Lethe Press

    Genres: Fiction, Contemporary
    Publisher's Summary:
Tijuana: melting pot of Mexico, gateway to Baja California. Two million souls struggle for survival, each searching for a way to become...something, anything better.
Fate brings a few strangers together one night in a crowded taxi rojo. When the red taxi crashes down a canyon, it creates a connection between the passengers that, like the international border within sight of the crash, draws a line between triumph and defeat, hopelessness and perseverance, life and death.
Boyfriends Rigo and Cristian confront their demons when a supposedly innocuous tryst gets out of control. Pancha looks for love in a complex world of ambiguous gender and sexual identity. Toni's biggest problem is self-acceptance in a culture that has ingrained in him the idea that real men are macho and self-sufficient. Julia's faith is challenged, as she toils to make a living and support her disabled sister, while feeling paralyzed by her sense of responsibility and lingering guilt.
Even in Tijuana, light can be found in the darkness.
    Members Reviews:
I really enjoyed this story and did not put it down until I finished.
The story follows survivors of a deadly, overcrowded, taxi accident in Tijuana for two months after the tragedy. The author's writing style is compelling. I find his knowledge of life in this border city is captivating. Somehow, in this short story, we care about the characters, their strengths, their imperfections, their trials and their courage and humanity. Would love a sequel.
    Really good story
I enjoyed the first novel by this writer and eagerly purchased this one. I thought it was wonderful, but please be warned it is not a romance by any stretch of imagination. I guess if I were to summarise it, I would say that it is about the characters who act as close to real people as it could possibly be written about, it is about characters who have to work hard for every shred of comfort in their lives and get paid mere pennies. It is about a catastrophic event which brought together an ensemble cast, and forced different problems in their lives even more out of the open. The characters are not romanticised, their lives are not romanticized, but they felt sympathetic and likeable to me, even if they made mistakes, wrong choices. I liked how the writer juggled several stories which were connected, but still were about totally different people, it did not feel disjointed to me at all. Even though the book is not a romance, there were several love stories in it, gay and straight and I liked them all.
    South of the Border
In the style of Thornton Wilder's classic The Bridge of San Luis Rey, the novel uses a tragic disaster - in this case, the crash of one of Tijuana's route taxis, the eponymous red taxi of the title - to link together the stories of a diverse group of characters. Like the ripples in a stream, the consequences of the taxi crash continue to radiate out into the lives of the survivors.
Orrantia's strength as a writer is in his ability to conjure up ordinary people struggling with their own personal, and often prosaic, problems-a young gay couple sorting out issues of fidelity, a latent homosexual struggling with his identity, a good-hearted but overtaxed woman trying to care for her family, a drag queen finding love where he least expects it - Clearly these are not earth shattering matters, but they are of a sort with which most of us can identify.

    Members Reviews:
    Far too long
Is there anything you would change about this book?
Cut an enormous amount of the domestic child-rearing parts and the descriptions of yoga and food and I would also have preferred not to listen to the extracts from psychology books that prefaced each chapter. Descriptions of the physique of Detective Tommy became tedious too
Would you be willing to try another book from Lila Shaara? Why or why not?
No. The main character was far too self-absorbed and the number of female characters with small parts were not interesting enough to make me remember their names
What aspect of Julia Gibsons performance might you have changed?
Her voice has a whiney tone which becomes tiring after a while
Did Every Secret Thing inspire you to do anything?
Not to read any more by this author - Jodi Picoult has no reason to worry about competition from this writer - not in her class
    Any additional comments?
The characters of the students who were threatening to expose the main character were not fleshed-out enough; the main character never really seemed to be under threat
