Überraschung! Auf Hermans Terrasse steht ein höflich hüstelndes Pferd. Was tun?

    Release date: 07-07-09

    Publisher's Summary:
Although he's told to stay, Marley digs a tunnel out of the backyard and sniffs his way to school. As he roams the halls looking for Cassie, he finds trouble instead. From wolfing down hot dogs in the cafeteria to setting free a bunch of mice in science class, Marley won't stop until he locates his best friend. This lovable and rowdy dog may not be much of an academic, but he's full of school spirit!
Packed with action and hilarious Marley bad-boy antics, this follow-up to the bes-tselling Bad Dog, Marley! and A Very Marley Christmas will leave listeners howling for more. Awooo!
    Editorial Reviews:
It turns out that John Grogan's dog "Marley" is as appealing to younger readers as he was to adult readers in the international best-seller Marley & Me. In this faithful performance of a storybook aimed at children between four and eight years of age, the lovable but disobedient dog follows Cassie to school on her first day and causes havoc in the cafeteria, the playground, the classroombasically everywhere he can.
Though an audiobook obviously lacks pictures, Fred Berman's colorful voice makes up for the deficit. Kids will love his animated characters as well as his loud barks. Berman has won Audie Awards and AudioFile Earphone Awards (four times) for his diverse performances.

My dog and I are a therapy dog team. One of the places we volunteer is at the library where we help little children learn to enjoy reading. This book about a dog and the chaos he caused at the school resonates with the children. Like the dog, they have a lot of energy, and can feel confined in school. This book turns the situation into a comedy they really enjoy. And reading it to my dog- who theoretically might also run loose in the school... The children really enjoy it.

    Editorial Reviews:
Jill Masters offers a brightly voiced performance in this rendition of a 14th-century English folk tale.
The title character of Dick Whittington and His Cat is an orphan who arrives in London looking for fortune. Finding work with a wealthy merchant, Mr. Fitzwarren, Dick lives in a rat-infested room. Dick buys a cat that rids him from the rats and, eventually, delivers him from rags to riches.
Masters subtle British accent, along with the dramatic flair she adds to dialogue, help make this story appealing to kids and all fans of "poor orphan" tales.

    Title: Jungle Drums
    Author: Graeme Base
    Narrator: uncredited
    Format: Unabridged
    Length: 19 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 10-30-08
    Publisher: Bolinda Publishing Pty Ltd
Ratings: 5 of 5 out of 1 votes
    Genres: Kids, Ages 5-7
    Publisher's Summary:
Little Ngiri is the smallest Warthog in Africa. Tired of being teased by his bigger brothers and sisters, he wishes things could be different. When Old Nyumbu the Wilderbeest gives Ngiri a set of magic drums, he is sure his wish is about to come true. But all the animals of the jungle are in for a BIG surprise as Ngiri's wish is granted in a most unexpected way.
    Editorial Reviews:
Old Nyumbu, a wise wildebeest, promises Little Ngiri, the smallest warthog in Africa, that banging on a magical drum will keep the other animals from making fun of him. It does, but in a wholly surprising way. Graeme Base, the best-selling author who seems to have claimed or been short-listed for every honor that can be bestowed on Australian childrens book writers, performs his entertaining fable of the importance of appreciating and celebrating our differences, rather than letting them cause fear or inspire bullying. The performance includes a vibrant, jungle-themed soundtrack.
    Critic Reviews:
"Jungle Drums has a fable-like subtext about self-acceptance and the dangers of trying too hard to fit in." (Sydney Morning Herald)

A beautifully illustrated book with a great message
I discovered this children's book several years ago as it was on a list of recommended book for the state's early learning standards. I loved the message of it and designed a PreK program around it. The quality of the paper and hardcover seem pretty sturdy, something that can be read over and over again and still hold up. The book is age-appropriate for PreK/K and has beautiful, detailed illustrations, as well as "where's Waldo"-type picture searches at the end. I work with this age group frequently, and there is a multitude of uses for this book in teaching: self-image/self-esteem, treatment of others, animals, language, geography, and student participation. I highly recommend it for teachers and parents!
    Five Stars
    Great book, superb illustrations!
    Other than that it's great.
I knew it was used but the cover was ripped. I think I would've taken it off and just sold it that way. I didn't need it anyway. Other than that it's great.
Another Classic Tale Gorgeously Illustrated by Base!
How can you not love the ingenious and gorgeously rendered illustrated books of Graeme Base? He is the penultimate modern children's literature illustrator IMO whose books belong in every child's library.
    Diverse and Valuable
Valuable lesson about acceptance and contentment with God-given gifts.

Cynthia Rylant is a Great Writer
Cynthia has been writing stories about Mr. Putter and Tabby for years and I am collecting all of them again for a second grandchild's family. The stories are very amusing, and read with the proper expression the kids love them and laugh along with them. I also donated a collection to a local school. Rylant writes great stories of all kinds.
    Five Stars
    Love Mr. Putter and Tabby.
Sensitive handling of the older folks
My grandsons and I love all the Mr Putter books. Ms Ryland does a wonderful job of introducing the lives and foibles of older folks with sensitivity and humor...and there are always wonderful stories that keep everyone entranced. The animals and their owners are true "characters" -we have the whole series!
    Another hit
We don't mind reading Mr. Putter & Tabby books over and over. We own this one, and I just gave it as a gift for new baby's library. Illustrations and the understated text make it 5 stars even if knitting and tea aren't among your favorite things in the world.
    Cute book
My daughter loves just about everything from Cynthia Rylant. This book was really cute.

©2008 Bobby & Sherry Norfolk; (P)2008 August House, Inc.
    Editorial Reviews:
Anansi, the trickster spider in African folklore, plays a reluctant host in Bobby and Sherry Norfolks Anansi and Turtle Go to Dinner.
When Turtle arrives at his house at dinnertime, Anansi has no choice but to share his meal. But after Anansi convinces Turtle to wash his hands first, the spider gobbles down his food without him. Turtle plots his own creative form of revenge that takes place at their next dinner in Turtles underwater home.
Accompanied by a jazzy bass score, Bobby Norfolk gives a dynamic performance of his words, conveying the craftiness of Anansi and the initial dopiness of Turtle in his characterizations.

    Another Good Harry
My kids love Horrible Harry. They were laughing out loud at the end of this one. These stories are good hearted, and the further we get into the series of them, the more well-rounded the kids become - "bad guys" in the first few have good points too. There's no serious meanness, which I really appreciate, and the kids are smart but not in smarty-pants ways. A plus is that I can listen to them over and over without going nuts.

    Finding Happiness
A dying father's last wish was for his three sons to go and find happiness and riches in life. The sons each embark on a seperate adventure, finding special things on their journeys to show to each other at the end of a year.
A great folktale about working together, family bonds, and a little magic too!
My daughter loves to read this book and is always asking for it! The illustrations are nice, the story is interesting and fun, and its short enough to keep her attention.
    Great story, so so pictures
I really like this story. The re-telling was really well done. However, the pictures were a little cartoonish for my taste, and the book I got seemed flimsy and cheaply made. Still worth it though! The kids enjoyed it, and aren't as picky as I am about the paper quality :)
    Great Story
This is a great little story that teaches the virtues of family, teamwork / participation, sharing, giving, and selflessness. Each brother searches for happiness and riches. Along the way, they find some fascinating objects and a quest to help a king in need:
Magic Glass / Seeing things far away [telescope]
A Flying Carpet / Takes one anywhere one wants to go
Magic Red Apple / Cure for dying princess
Story Cove's companion website includes a little movie based on the book and some printable activity pages for children. The website also includes engaging lessons plans based on the story. These plans are useful in helping children develop language and critical thinking skills.
