    Book 3 needs to hurry!
These books have so many twists and turns! wonderful entertainment. I hope book 3 gets here quickly.
    Great Book
What a great book. could hardly stop listening. Lauren Carr is a fantastic author, every book she writes is great..
    Predictable
When I listened to the first book in this series I thought it was predictable and the characters cardboard. I did think they showed potential. This book proved me wrong. They are if, anything, less believable. The women are unflatteringly stereotyped, the villains cartoony. I wasn't impressed with the narrator either, so that didn't help. Off to find a new author try.

    Another Stephanie Plum
Good light-hearted "read" very similar to Janet Evanovich. While the writing didn't make me laugh out loud as does Evanovich it will make me smirk to myself. I have read several of the books by this author and enjoyed all. Plot is not too deep but has enough twists to keep you scratching your head. Super job done by the reader!!!
    Fun fluffy read
On the whole I enjoyed this book. The characters are funny and the plot interesting. Normally I would give a 5 star rating but I can't. As funny as the characters and the different situations were they were a bit over the top. Wolly's involvement in the murder was forced and unrealistic. Also, there were a couple of times when I skipped ahead because the story seemed to drag and include unnecessary information. Kozak's writing style is smooth and entertaining, with engaging descriptions and witty dialogue which kept me engaged in the story. You won't be disappointed.
    Not just another date!
Would you consider the audio edition of Dating Dead Men to be better than the print version?
Not sure, have not read the print verison....but the audio verison rocks!
What was one of the most memorable moments of Dating Dead Men?
    the plane ride, for sure
What does Deanna Hurst bring to the story that you wouldn???t experience if you just read the book?
    different voices, I think
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Both, cry & laugh, laugh out loud!
Mystery, quirky characters, and great fun!!
Wollie Shelley was working hard to have her franchise, "Wollie's Welcome Greetings", pass muster with the national offices, when she gets a strange phone call from her brother, PJ. PJ is happily living in the local mental hospital because of his schizophrenia, but an illness has caused him to be off his meds for a few days. He's calling Wollie, all upset about a dead body, but he's not making much sense in the telling, so Wollie drives out to the hospital to see what is going on. But there IS a dead body, as Wollie almost drives over it just before reaching the hospital entrance. When she gets into the hospital, she's waylaid by a man in scrubs, "Doc" is on the run from the Mafia, but he's definitely not a Doctor.
Thus begins this mystery that if fraught with strange occurrences and stranger characters. There's the temporarily mute daughter of Doc, with her pesky ferret, Margaret. There there are the men that Wollie must date to earn $5000---40 of them, to meet the requirements of the experiment by a talk show host for her book, How To Avoid Getting Dumped All The Time. Wollie should not be attracted to Doc, but she definitely is and gets sucked into his life and mystery.
This lighthearted book is full of danger and screwy situations, where fright and laughter can occur at just about the same time.

When Gibbons turns up dead on Navy Pier, Kelly enlists a team of his savviest colleagues to connect the dots between the recent murder and the cold case it revived. They include Diane Lindsay, a TV reporter whose relationship with Kelly is not strictly professional; his best friend from childhood, Nicole Andrews, a forensic DNA expert; Nicole's boyfriend, Vince Rodriguez, a detective with a special interest in rape cases; and Bennett Davis from the DA's office, a friend since Kelly's days on the force. To close the case, Kelly will have to face the mob, a serial killer, his own double-crossing friends, and the mean streets of the city he loves.
Ferociously plotted and crackling with wit, The Chicago Way is first-rate suspense steeped in the glorious, gritty atmosphere of a great city - a marvelous debut.
    Critic Reviews:
"Bringing Chicago to life so skillfully that the reader can almost hear the El train in the distance, Harvey is poised to take the crime-writing world by storm." (Publishers Weekly)
    Members Reviews:
A wicked good storm of cliches
No, it isn't high literature, but it sure is fun. While the author's knowledge of Chicago sometimes comes off a bit tin, it's a great listen. It's perfectly within that two-fisted, hard-boiled, modern pulp genre, and a wonderful exemplar of it. The narration is top notch. The crime's solution and ending is almost hilariously improbable, but along the way you've just had too much fun to care.
    Couldn't get past the narrator
I tried but couldn't get past the narrator, who sounded like Thurston Howell, not as a guy from Chicago
Hard to look past the cliches
The narrator was great. Plot was interesting, but writing was poor. Author uses every boring cliche possible about Chicago, women, rape and police officers. It was really hard to make myself stick with it to the end.
Is this meant to be a parody?
The narrator reads it in an such a simpy, "ironic" tone, that I can't believe it's supposed to be taken seriously as a crime/mystery novel. Maybe he's using that tone because of all the generic cliches. I'm in the second hour of listening right now. As soon as I finish writing this, I'll be on to trying something else. What a disappointment!
    not bad
First, let me say that I love Stephen Hoye as a narrator. Anything he reads (especially when he reads in first person, and with a hint of world weary sarcasm) is pure enjoyment. The book's subject matter, however, was a little off putting. I really don't like the details of a serial killing, or anything gory. So I might rethink this author's next novel.

Set in Aberdeen, where the rainy season lasts all year, criminal gangs vie for supremacy on the streets, and the oil industry brings an influx of wealth and vice, this is a gritty, powerful debut thriller by a writer with a wonderfully observant eye and a characteristically Scottish sense of gallows humour.

    Excellent! Stuart MacBride! Fantastic
Grisly gruesome ghastly kidnappings & murders in The Granite City, of Aberdeen Scotland. Lots of twist and turns. The Narration is superb! You wont put this one down until the spine tingling end!
    More! More! More!
    UNABRIDGED PLEASE.
    gritty, human, great fun
The characters are real people, who make mistakes, but keep trying. And the best part is, they are genuinely funny along the way. This is the first book i've listened to by this author, and have to say i thoroughly enjoyed it. The story is quite good, but it's really the odd cast of characters and their dialog that seemed so refreshing and interesting to me. The narration was excellent as well. Highly recommended.
    Outstanding
Great book and marvelous narration. The plot is intricate and satisfying. The characters are credible and gritty. I was delighted to come across a new author, or new to me, whose writing has an authentic British flavour and whose characters seem to live on the page.
    Abridged so who knows?
Huge holes in this, plus you can't really enter into the story since so much is missing. Deeply disappointing! I love Stuart macbride so I'm sure the book is excellent. Just avoid this crap version.
    Abridgment Doesn't Make A Difference
I love, love, love Stuart MacBride. This book is the first in the Logan MacRae series and, since I found it, I am now hooked! MacBride is a terrifically entertaining author; one of the best I have read. Until I found him, Nelson Demille was my favorite author in this genre. It's nice to have found another great one!
John Sessions performs this rather than just reading it. You can tell that he is a very good actor and really puts a lot of effort into his portrayals of the characters.
If you like detective fiction, with some dark humor thrown in, you will enjoy this book and the whole Logan MacRae series. And if you are not familiar with British slang you may want to brush up before reading this author.

A silent caravan of cars, dozens of them, drives down that road, each passenger bearing a photograph, but none of them the same. They are the parents of missing children, some recently disappeared, some gone a decade or more, all brought together by word that children's grave sites are being discovered along the Mother Road. Kathy Mallory drives with them. The child she seeks, though, is not like the others. It is herself, the feral child adopted off the streets, her father a blank, her mother dead and full of mysteries.
During the next few extraordinary days, Mallory will find herself hunting a killer like no one she has ever known, and will undergo a series of revelations of stunning intensity and effect.

    some will some will not
For the money this was a pretty good listen. The female character may have been a little unbelieveable , but heck it is a book.
In spite of the subject matter, it did not have to many horrible child murder moments.
Would make a darn good movie.
    A truly wonderful ending.
    An Interminable Loser
A first review for me, but this was such a poor story I just have to speak up. It rambles more than old Route 66, with a protagonist I neither liked nor could find empathy for. Too many things were never really solved, too many people conveniently setting themselves up to be killed, etc. I was on a trip with nothing else to listen to or I would never have endured the second half of this plodder. Don't waste your points.
    orrie
Confusing, not compelling, quit before I finished the book.
    Not
I was sorely disappointed in the extremely unbelievable and unlikable character that O'Connell has degraded Mallory into. As a rough around the edges child or young adult the brashness worked, but now she's simply a mean spirited ugly woman. The author had to dumb down the surrounding characters to an insulting degree in order to bring off Mallory's smug egotistical know-it-all persona. Are we really supposed to believe that people would be in awe of and blindly follow a rude, unkind, socially retarded woman just because she has green eyes and nice hair? Totally ridiculous, tedious book.
    Another lost author - sigh
I loved Carol O'Connell's first several books, but the last 4 or 5 sound like they haven't been edited (they could be half the length), and the main character is not evolving at all. Really boring -- I had to force myself to finish it and it wasn't worth it.

Can Wexford unravel the complex knots that connect these murders in time to save future victims? Or is he, as he begins to fear, losing his touch and fast becoming a relic of another time?
Long beloved by listeners for her deft weaving of wonderfully meticulous characterization, dark humor, and trenchant social commentary into gripping and fast-paced plots, Ruth Rendell is in top form with End in Tears. Taking off from the beginning with back-to-back murders and ending with one of Wexford's own officers in mortal danger, End in Tears touches on issues of class, race, parenthood, aging, and gender roles as it brings the traditional British whodunit into the 21st century.
    Critic Reviews:
"[Rendell is] flat-out brilliant." (The New York Times)
"Prolific three-time Edgar winner Rendell proves a master at rendering the joys and sorrows of human relationships, from amicable marriages to the cruel practice of preying on sterile women desperate to have children." (Booklist)

    5 Stars, Of Course
Ruth Rendell is always great and her Inspector Wexford mysteries are the absolute best. So sorry she is no longer with us to spin new tales, but I'll read and reread her excellent books always. This one is no exception. A great read for mystery lovers, as are all Rendell's Inspector Wexford books.
    One of the best Wexfords!!!!
Somehow, I had missed this Wexford and stumbled across it the other day while fiddling Round on my Kindle looking for the most recent which I will be reading soon. The result? I have spent the last three bedtimes rushing through it, glued to every word. I must admit I am not a big fan of Ruth Rendell's other (non-Wexford) books but I love this series and I love the main character and the adjuncts as well. Yes, I suppose there is a bit of contrivance in the plot but Rendell's well-paced, suspenseful writing is such that it really doesn't matter. Ruth. Keep 'em coming!
Inspector W. Marches On -- Thank Heavens!
Ruth Rendell's ability to maintain the quality of her Inspector Wexford series is really impressive. So is her ability to move with the times -- the Inspector ages, but adapts (with some bemusement) to the changing mores around him. This one, number twenty in the series, starts with the murder of a young woman, and proceeds through a web of characters and events -- including another murder. Along the way, we spend considerable time with the Inspector's politically-correct but endearing Sargent Hannah, and with other police characters. Meanwhile, there is drama in the Wexford family: what kind of drama I will leave to the reader, except to note that yes, it involves Sylvia. Altogether a very good read.
A Good Outing for Ruth Rendell
I'm a long time fan of Ruth Rendell. This particular book was well-written with complex characters and a suspenseful plot. It held my interest all the way to the end. I would recommend this to mystery buffs.
    Women wanting children
The plot is interesting overall, dealing with a contemporary issue, but the murder cases being investigated by Wexford are intermixed with his home life and relationships within the office. The case is complex, maybe too much so. Various people are drawn in as accessories and end up in trouble with the police, and not everyone tells the whole truth when questioned. The problem is establishing a motive for the murders.

    Wonderful narrator.
I thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of this audiobook. The tale itself was engaging, with a few twists and turns but none of the jarring disconnects or wtf moments we find in so many modern detective novels these days. What really made it for me was the narrator's effortless rendition of the various accents. These added a lot to my comprehension of the characters and their motivations. As a Southerner I know what it's like dealing with prejudices based on one's speech patterns (accent). This narrator slipped from one English dialect to another, conveying the class and regional differences. I enjoyed every minute and was sad to see the book end.
    Enjoyable British murder mystery
Not your average British police procedural. The reader is lovely with his rural accent for the policeman and you are able to distinguish the various characters as he reads. There is a minimal bit of romantic relationship but the characters are primarily focused on who may have killed the victim and why. I liked the in-side views of the workings of a police station. The ending was satisfying and I never wished the book would hurry up to get to the end.
    Great listen
I am a sucker for British mysteries and police procedurals, and this was well-written and enjoyable. The narrator does good regional accents (though maybe the American female isn't the best, but still), the plot was complex enough without losing me, and the romance was good without being too sugary or predictable.
Waiting for the next book by this author, if there is one in the works...
    Great characters and dialogue
I enjoyed this audiobook immensely. The characters are well-drawn and fascinating. The dialogue is outstanding. You almost forget about the mystery, the characters' are so interesting. The plot, however, is also arresting and I was enthralled until the end of this tape.
    Recommended
There are a number of characters and all the different "bad guys" can get confusing but overall this was a very enjoyable book. Keen Dunliffe, the disgraced Yorkshire copper, is a very appealing character. Flawed, but honorable by his own lights, he makes a good foil for the rather uptight American history professor. Narrator Ralph Cosham offers a superb range of accents and characterizations.

    More than a formulaic story
This book is much more satisfying than your typical detective/mystery story. While all the elements of suspense are there, the 2 main characters are deep and thoughtfully drawn, and make the story enjoyable. There are some slow points, but overall it is an excellent book with good, clear narration.
    Entertaining
This is definitely a great who done it. The characters are interesting with all their imperfections. A great plot with some good twists, and a satisfying ending. I'd recommend this for some entertaining listening.
    Great story, but . . .
This was a wonderful story, with real characters that tugged at my heart. I needed to constantly overlook the fact that the writing seems unnecessarily overdone -- the only reason it didn't get five stars from me.

    Publisher's Summary:
A nameless, beautiful woman appears to be just another corpse in the morgue. An apparent suicide, she lies on a gurney, awaiting the dissecting scalpel of medical examiner Maura Isles. But when Maura unzips the body bag and looks down at the body, she gets the fright of her life. The corpse opens its eyes.
Very much alive, the woman is rushed to the hospital, where with shockingly cool precision, she murders a security guard and seizes hostages...one of them a pregnant patient, Jane Rizzoli.
Who is this violent, desperate soul, and what does she want? As the tense hours tick by, Maura joins forces with Jane's husband, FBI agent Gabriel Dean, to track down the mysterious killer's identity. When federal agents suddenly appear on the scene, Maura and Gabriel realize that they are dealing with a case that goes far deeper than just an ordinary hostage crisis.
Only Jane, trapped with the armed madwoman, holds the key to the mystery. And only she can solve it, if she survives the night.

(The Philadelphia Inquirer) "Drawing on current events, Gerritsen's latest novel is a tense, taut thriller that grabs readers from the get-go and never lets up." Members Reviews:
Another great Rizzoli and Isles book
If you enjoy mysteries, Rizzoli and Isles books are for you. Jane and Maura are well-developed characters, and the plot will keep you reading all night. Jane is the passionate Boston police detective who will use any means to catch the killer. Maura is the cool and collected medical examiner who uses science and her brains to the same end. This time the story revolves around girls brought over from Russia, supposedly for good jobs. Instead, these young girls are used as prostitutes. They are raped repeatedly every night, and the brutal men who use them do not even consider them as human. One night a customer goes too far and kills a girl, and two brave and scared girls are forced to flee the only place they can call a "home." It's up to Jane and Maura to find them and the killers. Even though is on maternity leave, she cannot let this case go until her life and her newborn daughter face death.
This will definitely keep you turning pages. Highly recommended.
    Suspenseful thriller
This is a must read for Tess Gerritsen fans. I have read all of her books and they never disappoint. The writing is always insightful, descriptive and graphic. Her knowledge of forensic science, the government, and the law is obvious through her writings.
This is a slight deviation from other books that are related to medical mysteries and investigations. This novel deals with the horror and tragedy in human trafficking and sex slavery that occurs in this country. This is the untold story of how young girls from other countries are lied to and smuggle into this country to become human sex slaves and what happened to them if they disobey. You will not be able to put the book down once the actions start to roll , starting with Jane Rizzoli being taken hostage as she is about to give birth, to the mystery behind the motivation of the hostage taker. This is probably one of Gerritsenâs best mystery yet.
