Fun and engaging way to pass the time

I recommend both of Kate Thompson's books as great summer reads, or should I say listens. Typical "chicklet" material, but fun with well developed characters. What is even more amazing is the author's ability to narrate the book - great inflection and use of voices for each character.

Oh, and be sure to listen in order. I made the mistake of starting with "Sex, Lies and Fairytales". That hooked me to back track and get the first - "Living the Dream". I still greatly enjoyed the first, but would have liked it better without some of the knowledge of the characters and the outcome from the second book.

Lacking variety or excitement

This book was very very boring and that is being nice. I did not care about any of the characters. This book was worse than the first book. I could not finish this book and I tried very hard.

Sex, Lies and Fairytales

Awful! Sorry, that's the first word that springs to mind with this book. The dialogue in the book is pretentious and the narrator's voice is boring. There were only two or three passages where my attention was grabbed and I began to care what happened to the characters. Then the author lost it again and it was back to mediocrity. I don't normally write reviews about books I don't like, but I just want others to avoid wasting their money and time!

enjoyable

Who was your favorite character and why?

Pixie Perrelli she was querky

Have you listened to any of Kate Thompsons other performances? How does this one compare?

no

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

no

Any additional comments?

this book took some getting into, but was well worth the effort of keep on trying.

Wodehouse Charm And Social Commentary

I first encountered Wodehouse like most do--through the Jeeves stories, and since those years ago, he has never failed to delight me with the fine British wit and charm that come across in every well-crafted line of his stories and short novels. The real grace of Wodehouse is that his fiction feels light, with its airy little jokes and puns, but there is, in the end, real depth in the social commentary and criticism that is always present, even in the most light-hearted tale. Doctor Sally comes highly recommended.

old-fashioned

Written in the 1950s the story / romance is quite outdated. Yet it's still a nice read for a short drive or journey. Unfortunately the sound quality is not very good.

Good read for all ages.

I loved this book and Jenny O'Connell so writes books with such good means behind the plot. Also I believe her books could be read by Christian kids as well as all teens out there.

Summertime read

Quick read that holds interest. Good lazy summer day read.

Courtesy of Teens Read Too

Mona and Kendra have been local island girls and best friends for years. But all that changes as Mona boards the ferry to the mainland at the end of the summer going into their junior year. Mona's mom has just married one of the richest summer island men, Malcolm. And with that new marriage comes Mona's move to the mainland (Boston) and her start at a private school. So Kendra is left alone for the year without her best friend or Mona's twin brother, Henry.

The story starts out with Kendra awaiting Mona's return to the island for the summer with her family. Though this time Mona will be living in Malcolm's house, one of the largest on the island. Kendra doesn't anticipate that things will be different now that Mona is one of the "summer people." But not long after Mona's arrival, Kendra notices that their conversation isn't as easy as it used to be. And Kendra had arranged a surprise for Mona, getting them both summer jobs at the new bed and breakfast, The Willow. But Mona doesn't have to work this summer. In fact, she doesn't have to do anything at all.

Book well Done

I truly enjoyed this book. The narration was fantastic on it and the story line was so good. I found out things about the US Flag given to recipients that I didn't know. Having been a recipient when my first husband gave his life, I now now what each fold of the flag meant before it was presented to me. My husband was in the USAF when he died for us!
