A child asks for a new mommy for Christmas, and - much to her bachelor dad's surprise - Santa delivers.
Waitress Lucy West is down on her luck at the diner. A fan of late-night television reruns, she's always dreamed of a nineteen-fifties style happily ever after. But, in reality, she's opted to settle. Barely scraping by on her meager salary and tired of going it alone, she figures marrying affable, yet distractible, Mitch as making the right move. Little does she know that Christmastime - and Santa - have other plans in store...

The Holiday Bride ~ Holiday Brides Series ~ Book 2
Lucy West had plans to be The Holiday Bride to Mitch, a guy she is settling for but finds less than ideal husband material. The big problem is that he doesn't want children and she really does. On Christmas Eve after she gets off work in the diner, she stops by the real estate office where Mitch works and he is too busy to spend this special night with her. He asks her to deliver some packages for a client on her way home, she slips in the heavy snow hits her head and the magic of Christmas takes over.
Lucy wakes up on a sofa in a home of strangers on Christmas morning and doesn't know her name. Carmella the young daughter of the house has wished for a new mother for Christmas and finds Lucy a perfect fit for her family. Lucy has the client's packages with the name Bridget on them so they call her that until she sees a real estate advertisement with Mitch's picture.
This tale is pure fantasy with the web page Justin built, hundreds of potential grooms, secret passage doors and all the Christmas celebrating. Lucy's visit to a home with a happy family, even without the mother makes her realize what she wants but you will have to read this for yourself to find out if she gets her happy family or a marriage to Mitch where she settles...
    The Holiday Bride
Lucy is getting ready to take the plunge and marry the unreliable Mitch - after all, fairy tales aren't real. William Kinkaid is a widowed father of two who is struggling as a single father. When Lucy takes a tumble in the snow on Christmas Eve she wakes to find herself on the Kinkaid's couch with no idea who she is and how she got there. The Kinkaid family is equally confused, except five year old Carmella who proclaims Lucy to be exactly what she asked Santa for: a new mommy.
If you're like me and enjoy the marathons of sappy, soapy, happily ever after Christmas movies on television all December long, you'll probably like this. It actually reminds me of one those, but I can't recall the name of it. This is a sweet little magical Christmas story, it tugs on all the heartstrings and gives you a face full of cavities. Lucy and William, as well as the children, are all adorable, and this does have a few great moments of comedy as well.
This is a clean little romance and I really enjoyed it.

    His Love Match
Shirley Hailstock kept the story going by having two people use a dating service. The couple knew each other and could not believe that the system matched them up. The male thought that the woman did not tell the whole truth and kept on going where she was until she proved it to him. The male could not believe this was the same person he and his friends gave a hard time to during college. She spins the story using a building that the male owns and wants to put the woman out. She refuses to leave until she sees that he is building a place where families of sick children can live for free. If you enjoy romance with charaters who knew each other this is a great read.

    Critic Reviews:
"No Ordinary Man contains many of the key literary ingredients, including sizzling hot romance and a high-stakes, high-suspense plot, that have made the author's Navy SEAL books a fan favorite." (Booklist)
    Members Reviews:
    Dissapointing...
What would have made No Ordinary Man better?
Hard to tell.... probably nothing. It's just not a good book.
What do you think your next listen will be?
I will try the same author as she had written some fantastic books, but this is unfortunately not one of them.
Would you be willing to try another one of Betsy Bronsons performances?
    Not really...
What character would you cut from No Ordinary Man?
Both lead characters, actually. There is just nothing interesting about either of them.
    Any additional comments?
Flat and boring. Also, fuels a dangerous myth that dysfunctional men from violent homes make great romantic partners.
Not like her other books, plus narrorates was flat
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
Where is the addicting "page turner" from Brockmann in this book? I could easily put it down.
What do you think your next listen will be?
    Another author.
How could the performance have been better?
Wayyy. Narrator was flat. A few voices were just silly, plus her Michigan accent kept popping in and out.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from No Ordinary Man?
80% of the denials of I can't tell you. Just didn't hold up.

    Old Time Classic Romance
Would you listen to Dark Fire again? Why?
Yes, but I am a long time fan of E.L. 1988'ish work. I no long purchase her newer work as they do not appeal to me. I own hard bound all her old classics and have waited for these classic to be recorded.
What did you like best about this story?
This is an old fashion core romance of the 80's, which I love. EL wrote a few which I pull out every few years an re read. My all time fave, too hot to handle will make you cry and know inner strength will overcome all. You must like hard core heros who in the end fall head over heels for the heroine, or this book is not for you.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
I wanted this story and since it was not read by my Do Not Buy reader, laural merlington, I took a chance on this very expensive reader. I looked her up and she is not worth the money she got for it. Note: she was not bad, but $25.00 or a full credit was too much. She didn't take away from this listen, but she is no way on my want to get more listens list. she was good enough that I will listen again to this great book. Jonathan Davis, Sandra browns new reader is to die for! EL has not gotten a decent reader and she could get so much more work purchased if she did her homework. we Listeners are in for the reader. Look at kresley cole and see her reviews.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Of course as it is only 5 hrs long. This is a core romance classic, which you must love or you will be disappointed if you use a credit.
    Any additional comments?
One of my all time fave, tell me no lies is abridged and I do not buy any abridged stories. If you are an EL fan of her older books, then this is a must buy. my other fave, beautiful dreamer was originally published as valley of the sun. This is read by one of my least fave readers, Laural merlington who I will not buy any more no matter what old fave of mine she reads.
    fun book
I really liked the details of the cloud forest. when Cindy was struggling so hard the details were great.

    Members Reviews:
Didn't live up to its potential
I wanted to like this book. Although I thought the title was a little cheesy, it sounded like an interesting premise, and so I decided to give it a try. Unfortunately, however, it wasn't very well-executed, either in writing or narration.
"Renegade Husband" is a story about Audra, a Nebraska girl looking for an adventure. When her pastor suggests she move out to the Colorado territory to marry one of his sons, also a pastor, she is eager for the opportunity to experience something new and exciting. She winds up in the midst of more adventure than she bargained for when her stage is held up on the way to her new home. It turns out that not everything is as it seems as she finds herself caught between twin brothers, one who, to quote Jane Austen, "has got all the goodness, and the other all the appearance of it."
My problem with this story was that everything about it felt rushed. Without more of a chance to get to know the characters, it was difficult to find their actions and choices believable. The romance aspect was very fast-paced, and it seemed as though Audra went from a strong dislike of the hero one minute to fervent devotion the next. The several points in the story that could have been suspenseful weren't because they ended so quickly with little, if any, description of the action, and the resolution was so brief that I probably would have been checking the battery on my ipod had it not been for the "Audible hopes you have enjoyed this program."
I'm not sure who was reading (it doesn't say in the site's book info or in the book itself), but she is definitely not my favorite narrator. Although she's clear enough, I wasn't a huge fan of her voices, and she has a habit of plowing through spots where there should be slightly longer pauses, either because of a change of thought (like a new paragraph) or change of time. It left me feeling like I was left behind and had to hurry to catch up. You can get some idea of what I'm talking about by listening to preview, but I found it got worse later in the book. This may not be a big deal to some, but I found it irritating and distracting.
The one thing I did appreciate about this story was the message of forgiveness and also of following God's plan rather than making plans and expecting Him to bless them.

    The Broken Path
What did you like best about The Broken Path? What did you like least?
I really liked that the hero was disabled, as that is not typical in books. I liked the attraction between the two characters, but wasn't fond of the way they interacted for portions of the story.
Would you listen to another book narrated by Christy Crevier?
    Probably.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
    Probably.
    Any additional comments?
As I first listened to the story, I thought the narrator was saying "Adam" instead of "Autumn". It took me awhile to understand her pronunciation of Autumn's name. She had a cute accent for Brit. But, there was a part of the book where a woman talked with a screeching voice and it about blew my earbuds off! Ouch! Overall, it was fun to listen to.

    Members Reviews:
    Loved it!
This is the last of a series of three books, very different from the average. I loved all of them, they were well written with believable characters. James was a male prostitute who had been taken from jail by the Madam when he was a young teenager. He felt he had been saved and that the Madam was sending money to his mother and sister. Later he found out he had been betrayed. Eleanor was an abused wife and wanted a passionate experience when she met James. James and Ellie had to struggle in order to find their happiness. It helps if you read the books in order or at least this one last.
    Very nicely done final book
I really enjoyed this series. The H and H were each unique and their stories intriguing.
The villainess, Lady Lavender, had depth and interesting interactions with each of the heroes. The heroines were intelligent without being too pig headed. James' story finishes out the series nicely. His character had the hardest time untangling from the villainess but the plot twists and turns were handled in a believable manner. After having his character introduced in the earlier two books, I was really looking forward to his "rescue" from Lady Lavender and this book did not disappoint..
    Five Stars
    Loved the author and book.
It's a fun read, so I hope the others will be ...
I was a little uneasy with the idea of a married woman going outside of her marriage, but I understand her reasoning. I think it is a well-paced story and am going to read the other two in the series. It's a fun read, so I hope the others will be also. You just can't take these types of stories too seriously. They are just fun to read!
    Interesting read...
I like her stories in this series. I have read all three. The only thing I didn't feel comfortable about is that she is still married when all of this is going on. This made me feel uncomfortable throughout and made it really difficult to read the book. I kept putting it down and coming back to it but it would have been a little easier if she would have been a widow.

    Shh...it's a secret!
Special ops expert Trig Sinclair is a man's man, and that means he knows the cardinal rule of the bro code-no matter how dynamite Lena West is, as his best friend's younger sister, she's strictly off-limits!
But when a secret mission to Istanbul sees Lena and Trig pretending to be married (and sharing a bed!), he finds himself in a whole new world of sweet torture.... But if Trig thinks playing the honor-bound hero is tough, it's got nothing on how Lena feels when she discovers what her "groom" is really hiding....
    Members Reviews:
    Good not great
Could have had more leading up to the accident I got lost and had to keep going back
    Sweet and descriptive.
Exactly what I expected and wanted! Easy listening that lulls you into Europe, intertwining a love story with suspense! Read it!!
This was not a good story for me.
I also had problems with the audiobook narrator.
    HERES THE SETUP:
Lena is traveling with Trig. She is mugged. They take her wallet. She is unconscious. Trig tells the hospital that she is his wife so they will quickly treat her and talk to him about it. She is not his wife. They are friends.
MOST OF THE STORY (with sort of Spoilers, but they are predictable due to the romance formula):
Lena has selective amnesia and asks Trig all kinds of questions about their marriage and relationship. Trig tries to do the honorable thing and not have sex with her until she regains her memory. But Lena insists on kissing and seducing him. She also makes him buy wedding rings saying it will help her memory. She insists that he get down on his knees and give her the proposal speech again. She asks questions like: Do you love me? Did we often have fights? What was sex like for us? She talks about the kind of house they should buy and their future kids. Then there is the predictable-big-separation-conflict when she regains her memory. She is angry with Trig saying you lied to me, you let me make a fool of myself. So she leaves him. Then she grieves and misses him and is lonely.
THERE IS NO PLOT OUTSIDE THE ABOVE:
The book blurb mentioned special ops and a secret mission to Istanbul, so I thought romantic suspense. But its not. The plot was supposed to be about finding Lenas missing brother Jared. There was no action or development of that. It was solved with phone calls.
    MY OPINION:
Most of the book was during her amnesia. It was not interesting. The conflicts were predictable. You knew there would be conflict when her memory returned. You need to suspend disbelief because Trig should have told her they were not married early on, but he didnt. She was not in a precarious medical situation. She could have handled the truth because she was so pushy with so many other things. No fragility there.
    AUDIOBOOK NARRATOR:
I had two problems with India Plum. 1. She spoke in a bland-dull-flat-tone, like she was bored. 2. She has a heavy Australian accent. Its interesting to hear, but I often found myself thinking about how she said things instead of what she said. The accent was hard for me, but it might be ok for others.
    Narrative mode: 3rd person.
    Genre: contemporary romance, amnesia.
