Title: The Gift of a Legacy
    Subtitle: A Novel
    Author: Jim Stovall
    Narrator: Ray Porter
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 3 hrs and 39 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 07-17-13

Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 4 votes

    Publisher's Summary:
The Gift of a Legacy is tender story reminding us that shifting the focus from ourselves to others usually ends up changing us, and often times even the world. Joey Anderson attended his great-grandmother's funeral because he expected to receive a little inheritance money. What he didn't expect was to inherit her bed-and-breakfast, provided he lives there and follows her final instructions. With a little help from his friends, Joey grows up and discovers a world beyond me, my, and I.

Where is this Author's head burried?
I bought this book because it was narrated by Ray Porter - and he came through. It was the only think that kept me listening. The book was written by someone that thinks there are simple answers to everything and if you just know that you will solve all the problems that a directionless man has. He didn't really have the answers, just a lemonade world.
It was written in first person about a different man who had all the problems. It did not go into the struggles that the second man had or the psychological problems that he needed to clean up. The author just gave him some tasks to do that miraculously changed him into a "good" man with the desire to become one of the lollipop crowd and I'm sure go dancing off with them to bring other men to their senses.
I'm not opposed to goodness. I am opposed to a writer who makes a list, gives an example for each point and then calls it a good novel - or in this case novella. Give me a good book for my money.

    Title: Joshua
    Author: John S. Wilson
    Narrator: Jonathan Yen
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 11 hrs and 35 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 07-05-13
    Publisher: Podium Publishing
Ratings: 3.5 of 5 out of 127 votes
    Genres: Fiction, Contemporary
    Publisher's Summary:
He had to keep moving, that the man instinctively knew. He had to get away, from the rioting, the lawlessness, the killing. Away from the brutal gangs that ruled the highways. Then there was the boy that he found along the way, an orphan with no place to go. He couldn't leave the child behind; that would be murder. Together they had to make their way across the razed landscape of post-collapse America, west to where there was safety, a chance to begin again. If only they survived the journey.
    Members Reviews:
Very gritty & real story of survival!
What did you like best about this story?
The story doesn't try to hard. It's not larger than life. If feels like it could legitimately take place over the next 5 to 10 years. Everything about the characters and the situations they found themselves in felt completely natural.
What about Jonathan Yens performance did you like?
The calm/controlled/rational tone of Yen's voice was perfectly matched to the protagonist. And it provided a perfect counterpoint to the turmoil of the plot (the end of society as we know it!). That made it all the more unsettling and eerie. Really nice!
    Any additional comments?
Two of the first three reviewers mentioned the fact that the protagonist is left unnamed. I admit that I found that a bit unusual at first, and wasn't even sure what to make of it. But I personally didn't think any more of it after the first chapter or two. The very first reviewer suggested that a name is critical in making a connection with the protagonist. I don't agree at all. I can (surprisingly often) finish watching a movie, and not be able to tell you the primary character's names, but I most certainly can tell you all about them and their experiences. While that's very uncommon when reading a book, it was the case with this audiobook. And when you think of it, an audiobook is pretty much halfway between a book and a movie.
    Really Loved this
What did you love best about Joshua?
A typical Armageddon scenario, but with great characters.Definitely makes me fear the "Survivalist" wacko-s more than before...
Who was your favorite character and why?
    The Man
Which character as performed by Jonathan Yen was your favorite?
    The Man
If you could rename Joshua, what would you call it?
    Hmm, American Meltdown
Well Thought Out End of America Story
Of all the stories written about the ending of America as we know it, this one is my favorite. The financial downfall is not at all far fetched, as the economy has long been "propped up" falsely . . . and it's indeed a frightening thought what ordinary people might do when faced without food and necessities. What makes this book different than others is the human story of THE MAN and the boy, Joshua. It is captivating. I couldn't stop listening, as they encountered the worst and the best in others. And though in small pockets across America, there was GOOD . . . there was faith . . . and there was hope.
I was completely taken by this story.
If you could sum up Joshua in three words, what would they be?
    Innocent, curious and resilient.
Who was your favorite character and why?
The Man. Even though he wasn't given a name, and The Man was repeated over and over and over. He's a true to nature kind of guy. Honorable, protective, nurturing, pleasant and caring. The kind of man I aspire to be.

    Stunning and simply unforgettable
If you could sum up Calling Me Home in three words, what would they be?
    A heartbreaking beautiful life-story
What did you like best about this story?
That I could feel that this partly was a true story. Life stories such as these are with us here in real life. It never felt unrealistic bot wow so very romantic it was.
    Which scene was your favorite?
Maybe in the end was it that very last one. So touching. But there were a bunch of good moments there.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No, this one needed time. I needed time to melt it all, to get new strength and think about what just happened etc.
    Any additional comments?
Higly recommended! These narrators were both perfect and did it so very well. - I LOVED this story and the audiobooks listening was absolutely stunning gripping at times. - Don't forget your tissues.
    A gentle road trip
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I would definitely recommend this book to a friend. I loved it. A hard-hitting, touching story of love and loss, race and hopelessness and of the damage that society can subject its people to.
Who was your favorite character and why?
I cannot choose between the two main characters. Both were well-crafted and rounded and one without the other is unthinkable. The story is dependent on the relationship between the two women and, therefore, the one complements the other.
What does Bahni Turpin and Lorna Raver bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you had only read the book?
Both narrators were excellent and their readings added colour and character to the book. These readers were obviously very carefully chosen and the people who cast them have to be congratulated.
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I cried at the end of this book. Both characters were very real to me, but the end was perfect.
    Any additional comments?
A lovely gentle listen even though the story was harrowing at times.
    a Quietly Powerful Story
This is a story that gripped me from the start because both main characters are interesting and strong women in different ways. This is emotional without being sentimental and artfully unfolds the story of a life. Highly recommend.
    BLACK WHITE - WHITE BLACK.

    Language: English
    Release date: 05-13-13
    Publisher: Audible Studios
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 1 votes
    Genres: Fiction, Contemporary
    Publisher's Summary:
Miss Bridge takes us to Portugal; not only the well-known world of Estoril and the Embassies, but behind the scenes, into the life lived on country estates by the Portuguese themselves. Both aspects are seen through the fresh eyes of a young Hungarian girl just released from behind the Iron Curtain, who also gives vivid and horrifying glimpses of life in Soviet-dominated Hungary from 1945 to 1955. Communist intrigues lend suspense and excitement to this book full of rapid movement, when any drive in a car may hold possibilities of danger; and readers who enjoyed the calm, dumb-blonde Julia Probyn in The Lighthearted Quest will be glad to meet her again here, playing her accustomed role of outsmarting the professionals at their own game. But though lively this audiobook penetrates further into the life of another country, and gives too a revealing account of the impact of western life and behaviour on a highly intelligent observer from 'the other side'.
Ann Bridge (1889-1974), or Lady Mary Dolling (Sanders) O'Malley was born in Hertfordshire. Bridge's novels concern her experiences of the British Foreign Office community in Peking in China, where she lived for two years with her diplomat husband. Her novels combine courtship plots with vividly-realized settings and demure social satire. Bridge went on to write novels around a serious investigation of modern historical developments. In the 1970s Bridge began to write thrillers centred on a female amateur detective, Julia Probyn, as well writing travel books and family memoirs. Her books were praised for their faithful representation of foreign countries which was down to personal experience and thorough research.

When they decide to keep the baby, their concerned parents chip in what they can to keep Will in school and give both teenagers a comfortable place to raise their child. But when a freak accident leaves Thea shaken and threatens to upend their little family altogether, Thea is forced to turn to the last place she would have chosen for comfort: her stiff, uncompromising father.
