Great Christmas conversation starter with young ones

We loved the questions and prompting on how to tie together the nativity story for the young family members. It enables youngsters to re-enact the Christmas story on their own. A nice way to show that Christmas is more than the Santa festival, which is nice in its own way.

Delightful!

Fairhaven Forest is a delightful story told with lovely imagery. A great lesson for children without being scary. Told from the point of view of the kittens, it is great for a bedtime story and provides an opportunity for discussion after reading it.

Would make a great gift for parents with young children or beginning readers.

I can't wait for the next adventures of Fuzz and Spatz!

In this introduction, Fuzz and Spatz learn a valuable lesson in active listening when they get lost in the woods. As night falls, they only seem to go around in circles before giving up for the night. Had they listened to those who tried to guide them, they would've found themselves in their cozy big white house with their bellies full.

The first thing that caught my eye was the illustrations. Vibrant and fun, the art is something that draws the eye instantly. And how can you resist how adorable Fuzz and Spatz are? If you aren't a cat lover before reading these books, you may change your mind.

Although this may seem like a simple element, I appreciate the dynamic in graphic around the text. I see several picture books come across my table where it's difficult to read because the text overlays directly on top of the illustrations, causing the reader to strain their eyes to read it. The text in The Adventure Begins is set on top of a soft-transparent white box that creates a more pleasing aesthetic.

After reading this book, I had wished for a little bit more. The story is very adorable, but I think it could have used a little more plot element to really push off the series. However, comparatively I liked the way the illustrations were done in The Adventure Begins the best out of the three.

Fairhaven Forest is fun, colorful and exciting for children. Be prepared to read it over and over.

My granddaughter loved this book. What a great way to teach lessons to children. Fuzz and Spatz are playful, fun and the artwork pulls the children and their imagination in. We read it over and over and now she wants a kitten.

Characters are not believable.

The story is convoluted, and not believable. I was looking for something that would be meaningful for inner-city kids, who have experienced loss, but the reactions of the little boy in the story do not ring true. And his apology to his mom for not allowing her to help him is not something a six, seven or eight year old boy would be able to verbalize. Very disappointing.

Learning to Cope with Loss Before it Happens

I read this book to my children after losing a family friend. My sons didn't know her well enough to grieve her loss, but some day they will lose someone close to them. This book is a good way to preemptively introduce the topic of grief and how important it is to talk about our feelings in order to cope and heal.

Mark the Missing Moose introduces the topic of loss in a gentle way--through the loss of a favorite toy that's considered a best friend. I recommend it to parents with young children or those who have experienced loss and want to encourage their children to talk about how they feel.

Mark the Missing Moose is a sweet story with an important message. Mrs. Tortorello weaves the story of a little boy and his favorite toy and best friend, with a lesson on how to deal with loss. She successfully addresses the emotional implications of grief, and then teaches on the importance of expressing feelings and taking steps to heal. I would recommend Mark the Missing Moose not only for children suffering through a loss, but for all children, as a useful tool in teaching about processing their feelings in healthy ways. I applaud Mrs. Tortorello for taking on a difficult topic with great sensitivity.

A Great Teaching Tool

Written in the style of The Velveteen Rabbit, this poignant read has a great lesson anyone can learn from. Whether young or old, loss of any type is one of the hardest things people struggle with. This book uses a simple approach to help anyone dealing with loss understand that shutting others out only makes things worse. Well written and to the point, Ms. Tortorello does a fantastic job. Great tool for parents to use to teach their children before the inevitable happens. Highly recommend.

It's Okay To Share Your Pain!

I am a fan of Miss Tortorello's writings and know that this book was born out of a family friend's tragedy, a suicide to be exact. Both the mother of the deceased and Ms. Tortorello recognized the need to let children know that they can and should talk about anything bothering them no matter how painful or difficult. Ms. Tortorello gently and beautifully tells the story of a young boy who recognizes that opening up and letting others in really helps.

Enlightening & Eye Opening

I hope parents and school teachers will use this book to educate children about these amazing animals. This book is not just for children though.

It's sad to know that stories like "Little Red Riding Hood" and "The Three Little Pigs" have helped create and spread negative views about wolves when the fact is, they're afraid of man and rarely attack people. In contrast, native American Indians revered them and Cherokee Indians never even killed wolves. Wolves only kill prey for food and they love their puppies and other members of their pack.

Once I started reading this book I couldn't put it down. I liked it so much that I changed my profile photo to show my support for wolves. I loved this book and I highly recommend it.
