Beware of occult and devination use
Helping children learn about character by introducing them to occult practices and witchcraft is not my idea of proper teaching for any age, especially young children. The author's heroine Freda uses one form of divination called tasseomancy that includes reading coffee grounds from a tea cup to decide her future and where she should go to âhelp childrenâ.
Awesome kid's book -- great story with teachable moments!
I read the "Picadilly Children's Ballet" to my four and a half year old daughter and she absolutely loved the story -- so much so that she said "read it again Mommy"! Usually I read much shorter books to her before bedtime - but it was easy for her to follow along and she asked questions throughout (especially why Esmeralda was so grouchy). She liked seeing Esmeralda's change -- and how she eventually learned that spreading joy and seeing people smile was much more fun than being pouty all the time. My daughter also liked that all the kids helped make the ballet happen -- I liked that too because it shows that no matter how small you are, you can always lend a helping hand and make a difference. Great story -- can't wait to read the next in the series!
Review of Picadilly Children's Ballet
Have you ever lost your "joy"? If you have, you will know exactly what Esmeralda VanOrneryMunchen experienced. Her disagreeable, grouchy nature showed up in her performances with the Picadilly Children's Ballet. Then, Ferda and Felicity "come to the rescue". They show and tell her how to get that joy back. But how she gets her joy back is what you are going to have to find out by reading this delightful book. And while reading it, enjoy the colors used on the pages of this book, as well as all the wonderfully done illustrations that match the story perfectly. I am looking forward to future Ferda and Felicity adventures from this author. I give the book 5 Stars!
Great for a Character Study
If you are an educator or a parent who wants to support what is being done at school, this is a great book for character study. Esmmeralda VanOrneryMunchen is perfect to do a Character Map with. As you read, the character's feelings and actions change, as does what the other characters think and say about her. As a reader, you can't help but have your feelings change toward Esmmeralda, too. In addition to being a great book for character study, there is also a great life lesson.
Nice story
This is a fun illustrated story for early elementary children. The illustrations help tell the story and are artfully done. Children will learn a wonderful lesson along the way as they read this cute story. Mom's will have fun reading this book and answering the questions their young children may have about Esmeralda's grouchiness!
