All the services are absolute, whether you sweep the floor, or whether you wash pots, or whether you worship the Deity, or go on book distribution - they're all devotional service and they're all absolute. There is a special quality to going out to meet conditioned souls, and therefore it's emphasized. And Prabhupāda, very practically, told us that at certain intervals, everybody should go out. That's a fact. It's there in writing. He told us many times, and many communities did it.

For instance, when I was living in New York at 40 West 55th, between Eighth and Ninth, in Manhattan, we had a thirteen-story building, or maybe it was fourteen, and we had about five hundred devotees living under one roof. And Prabhupāda told us that everybody should go out, and you can leave one person back to do all the cooking and Deity worship on that day. And we used to do it, and everyone would go out - the temple president, mothers with little babies and baby carriages, and everything like that. And it was palpable the next day that everyone felt enlivened because they had an opportunity to walk out the door. So I've advocated for years for the monthly saṅkīrtana festival, that everyone should have a chance to go out. They shouldn't be deprived of that opportunity to go out into the great unknown and challenge themselves, to see what it feels like to follow in the footsteps of Nārada Muni. It's a high sādhanā, and you don't have to perform. Nobody has to do any heroics, except for just going out as a team. And if you can't do that, then you can always cook for those who are going out or help in other services. Just like on our team we had here, there were lots of devotees working behind the scenes to make sure that everything was facilitated, and the devotees who do the backup services also feel that sense of upliftment from it. So, saṅkīrtana is a good idea. It's really nice, actually. Besides that, it's fun and easy.
