Surviving in an Amazing Universe

Seven year old Troy Tomler involuntarily embarks on an incredible journey when his family's minivan is carjacked - with him still inside! To the gas station,to the mall, and around town, readers travel with Troy and share in his discoveries and frustrations as he bravely faces dangers most seven-year-olds could not handle. Yet, there is something very special and unique about Troy - he can only speak using vowels! His restricted speaking abilities, however, do not hinder him from temporarily escaping the kidnappers, making friends, shopping alone and participating in a Christmas play. In spite of the disability most children and adults taunt him about, Troy proves to be a very smart, kindhearted, and fairly independent young boy.

S. Kennedy Tosten has done an excellent job depicting the thoughts, feelings, and actions of autistic children and adults in this enjoyable, lighthearted children's book. The story is told in first person from Troy's point of view, and, while adjusting to his voice and perspective might be difficult for some readers, the language of the story is very simple and easy to understand for children at almost any reading level.

I applaud Tosten's efforts in stepping out of the box and writing a children's book that increases awareness of autism and promotes acceptance of individuals dealing with the disorder by illuminating and discarding negative opinions. Children (and adults) need to be more cognizant of differences within the human race and learn to embrace those differences in each other, even if they don't quite fully understand. I highly recommend S. Kennedy Tosten's book TROY'S AMAZING UNIVERSE M FOR MALL to any parent looking to broaden their child's outlook on life with a fun-filled, action-packed story of a boy surviving in his own amazing universe.

A story for both kids and adults

This is a story of Troy as he gets abducted by 2 guys. Troy is a special boy that meets a special man told in a way that everyone can understand. Troy has challenges and his new friend also has challenges and I learned a whole new way to look at these challenges from this book. I could see it being read to or by every young child so that they could better understand those around them. If an adult reads this it can be the motivation for many conversations that will lead to much better understanding. This is an easy read that you will remember forever.

A mother's love letter to her son

The wisest people have written for children. This is certainly true of Sharon Kennedy Tosten's love letter to her mentally and physically challenged son Troy, who at 7 years old is much smaller than normal for his age. This book will touch your heart. Through Tosten's fictional character Troy Tomler's eyes, we learn the wonder of Mommy's smell like muffins, Daddy's smell like leather, the joy of DVDs, and the delight of getting gummies.

So much poo!

How can I tell you about this story without making it sound awful? Okay, so there's this kid, he's in the forest, he's naked, forgotten his own name and... he's gotta take a dump real bad. There's this other kid, Pooper-scooper, who is intent on sifting through the first kid's poo. There's a lot of poo. And farts that squirt out something special. And there's a nudest colony with lots of jiggling, sagging, poking out bits.

Wait, there's another main character, she's normal... except her dad's probably a sex-addict and her mum has severe anger-management issues and the girl's stuck looking after her dad's love-child baby. At least until the gang of little kids kidnap them and whisk them off to the nudist colony. She meets up with the boy in the forest and together they try to unravel a weird mystery. They make a good team... until the boy makes out with the girl's mother.

Lots of action and laughs. I LOVED this story! Warning: Once you've read this novel, it will linger in your mind... every time you poo.

Um...

These authors pride themselves on being weird, and this book is no exception. This has honestly got to be the strangest book I've ever read. From the nudist colony, to the guy getting 'pregnant', to the mum kissing her daughter's friend. Don't expect too much deep and sentimental stuff from this book, and don't even begin this book if you can't cope with non-realistic fiction.

Paul Jennings and Morris Gleitzman have officially written the strangest book ever, however it's a good fun read (probably for over 10), and it keeps you enthralled till the very last page with it's ever changing, unexpected plot. An amusing and good read for tweens to younger teens.

man this is like the best book i've ever read my favourite character would have to be Randall really good book i suggest you buy it or borrow it from a library i have all six books.
