    Any additional comments?
I have the print copy of the 1st book and I found out that I enjoy the book better in audio. The story was great and so with the narrator. Good audiobook.
An Excellent Thriller and Promising Series
Forest Park was a great listen. I thought the prose was poetic and very nicely done. The author, Valerie Davisson did a nice job on this book. I'd like to see where this series goes and hear book 1 in audio. The characters were good. I especially liked Logan and the timeline with alternating chapters. The setting was so good, I could almost smell the food and see the sights.
Another aspect of this story that made it good was the narration by Leonor A. Woodworth. I love the way she approached the story with some trepidation which kept the listener engaged, wondering what would happen next. She's an excellent voice actor and I hope she reads the rest of the series. She was perfect for it.

Nice Slice of West Coast Pie
Valerie Davisson gives a third-person view of several multicultural lives of various cultural and ethnic backgrounds/experiences, Although some stories originate elsewhere, Forest Park primarily takes place on the West Coast (California and Oregon). The primary protagonists take us on their respective journeys as they connect with people in their families and communities, and make the most of the odds set against them. The mix of friendships, familial ties, colleagues, romance, music, life-passions, food, pets, and conscientious community-mindedness work with and/or against apathy, betrayal, crime, neglected (e.g. homeless) members of society and a slew of other ills in the mosaic of everyday living. Its a great slice of West Coast Americanism, a nice ode to social responsibility, and an overall nice piece of entertainment.
Leonor A Woolworth's narration was really good. It would have been nice to have stronger/more authentic accents of some of the many varied national, regional, cultural and/or subcultural personalities characterized in the story.
This audiobook was provided by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review.
    Cozy Read
I finished the Audible version of this a few days ago. I just never got around to reviewing. That and I wasn't sure what to say.
There are many aspects of this book I dearly love. The author explores education from an angle I was able to be a part of in my past and hope others get the idea to put some of these ideas into action.
I loved the care for homeless and drug abusers.

    Author: William Graham
    Narrator: Adam Schulmerich

More than ever, he must lean on Detective Kate Hammer to assist him in solving the crimes. Like the other Sloan mysteries (The Red Planet Murders, The Red Planet President, and Mars at Midnight), this book brims with intrigue and suspense set against the Martian landscape in the 22nd century.

left me feeling like I wanted more
Detective Ace Sloan is back at it again in the final installation of the series.
Detective Ace Sloan is a detective on Mars. He is a Martian detective, and he is darn good at it. When there are numerous murders starting to grip the Martian colony -- he is on the case again. He must find out who the killer is, and why they are taking out such a high profile Martian family.
The narration for Mars At Twilight was done byAdam Schulmerich. This was the first book that I ever listened to by Schulmerich and I really don't think I had enough chance to actually make a decision on whether or not I really enjoyed his narration style or not. There were a few times that I really felt like there needed to be more emotion, but not all narrators or authors want their books to be done that way. Overall, his voice was clear and concise. The book was narrated nicely, and I was able to listen to it without any issues.
The final Ace Sloan book left me feeling like I wanted more. Not necessarily more Sloan, but just more to the story. There was a lot going on, maybe, even more, going on than any of the other Sloan books. But, it just felt like something was missing.
I've really enjoyed all four books in the series, and this was no different. Yes, I felt like it was missing something, but overall this was good for the short story that it is. Graham knows how to write very tight and precise short stories that are full of detail and actually have a story arc.
Overall, a good story, not great. But definitely, a good choice for a quick read/listen. All four Detective Ace Sloan books are.

    Hmm...Very Interesting....
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
I don't recommend movies or books who use offensive and vulgar language
What does Adam Schulmerich bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
Adam's narration is top notch - great job!
    Any additional comments?
I havent given the thought about establishing colonies and living in Mars before, but this book made it appear as if its already happening! Great imagination! No dull moments - but I cringed here and there because of some vulgar language, which I dont appreciate.
I received this audio-book free for an honest review by the author, narrator, or publisher. Thank you!!!
    Another Good Ace Sloan Mystery
Do not let the Mars title and setting dissuade from a good straight forward mystery.
Detective Ace Sloan is taking a well-needed vacation at the Pleasure Dome Resort when he becomes involved in a murder investigation of a prominent Martian family.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes, the story is well told and interesting. It is based in a city I would love to visit
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
You just never knew what would happen next to the PI
Have you listened to any of Nicholas Patrellas other performances before? How does this one compare?
Yes, the first book in the series. He did another excellent job in this story.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes, it was easy to get pulled in and not want to stop listening.
    Any additional comments?

    The Devil's Serum
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes. Entertaining & well-written book about a troubled PI
What other book might you compare The Devil's Serum to and why?
    Older Raymond Chandler-type books
    Any additional comments?
I love reading mysteries set in New Orleans, noir-type gumshoes & voodoo, so this series of books involving Moses Byone are a great choice for me. This book isn't quite as good as the first, but still entertaining.
The author delves into the world of the New Orleans nightlife, drag queens & voodoo all while drawing you into the world of a PI with a past. Add in an insane asylum, a creepy & deranges Doctor & you have a great read!
I look forward to continuing to travel into the world of Moses Byone in the rest of this series
    New Orleans Ambiance
    Any additional comments?
I love any book written that takes place in New Orleans. Then again, I love wandering around New Orleans Square at Disneyland, so take that remark at face value.
I'm not going to tell you my favorite moments, because it would mean nothing to you and it would spoil things. I don't like to give away too much about a mystery because you know that there is going to be a twist and unexpected turns, so suffice it to say, expect a fun ride with twists and turns. If you're like me, you prefer to know maybe ten words about a book, then go into it and be as surprised as possible, knowing full well that if you don't like it, audible.com has a generous return policy.
This is my first time listening to this narrator, but it won't be my last since I became an instant fan of Nicholas Patrella. And a few times, when the action got intense, I slowed down the speed of the playback to ensure that I didn't miss anything. I just love that about the audible app - even changing from 1.0 to .95 in speed makes a big difference to me in playback.
If you are looking for a good mystery, seeped in the local culture of New Orleans, then this is a great audio book to curl up with, either on a beach in Cancun, or on a rainy day with a mug of hot coco in Maine. But either way, I don't think you'll be disappointed.

    Excellent!
    The Dead Student
Kudos to John Katzenbach for another great book! I have read all of his books and this one does not disappoint. A twisted cat and mouse tale between a sociopath and his victims, you will be cheering for young Moth and Andy Candy as they upend the death of Moth's Uncle. Moth just can't believe his Uncle would commit suicide. As he sets out to prove it, he discovers a horrendous plan that Student #5 has hatched to set right a misperceived slight that happened over 20 years ago. Highly recommend!
    Katzenbach has really slipped
John Katzenbach used to be one of my favorite authors, but I'm afraid he's no longer at the top of his game. This story was formulaic and at times, irritating.
    Kept Me Up Late
This was a well constructed tale that refused to be put down. The characters were real and faced doubts we all face. A great read!
Katzenbach at the top of his game
My only disappointment is that I somehow missed the publication of this book and only recently became aware of it. I think I've read all of Katzenbach's books and enjoyed them all. Like some reviewers I've felt that a couple of his more recent books weren't quite as compelling as his first few. But Dead Student is Katzenbach at the top of his game. At more than one point of the book, I could hardly read fast enough to learn what would happen next.
    Most read
I love Katzenbach and I think this is his best yet (i have never given 5 star for anything). One thing
that bothered me is one of the characters was constantly referred to by her nick name Andy Candy.
Other than that the book was perfact.

Bruised and sore from the previous night's activities, Private Detective Archie Archibald is finally convinced that he has had enough of Fort Lauderdale's violent criminal element. The quiet, seaside community of Vero Beach seems like the perfect place to start over. It comes highly recommended by his good friend, Luther Johnson, and Archie is hoping the many affluent oceanfront communities will provide access to a much more refined type of clientele.
Just weeks after his arrival, the area's wealthiest woman, 84-year-old Clara Silverman, mysteriously vanishes from her gated estate, and Archie is asked to take on the case. Sixteen hundred miles away, in Michigan's remote Upper Peninsula, John Barrington gets a mysterious call asking him about an aunt he thought had passed away years before.
As Archie digs deeper into Mrs. Silverman's disappearance, he discovers that the laid-back beach town he has escaped to holds plenty of secrets of its own. It doesn't take long before both Archie and John are caught up in a dangerous web of deceit, kidnapping, and murder. As the body count mounts, Archie knows he doesn't have much time to solve the Black Orchid mystery before he, and the people closest to him, become the next victims.

    Another Fun Mystery!
If you've enjoyed Jim's other novels this one will definitely be a fun ride. We get some great new characters, and I hope to see Archie again in another mystery. He's a fun twist to the cast Jim has set up all the way back to the Four Chimneys -- which, by the way, I went back and reread after finishing the Black Orchid.
Things move along pretty quick from the get go, and I love that about a mystery. My only criticisim would be that I just got all totally invested in everyone and then ..... I don't want to spoil it but let's say Jim's not afraid to off just about anyone :) So you succeeded with me. You totally made me mad, yell at my book, be sad, and then say NICE twist nodding and marveling that you went there... then hurrying to finish up because I just had to know what was going to happen. In my opinion, the best stories are always the ones that make me laugh out loud in public, yell at characters in my empty living room, then stay up til 2 a.m. because I need to finish it. I was up late that night.
Can't wait to see what this group might get into in the future, hopefully ???
    The Black Orchid Mystery
Archie has moved his P. I. practice to Vero Beach, my favorite Florida city. It was a pleasure to follow Archie's and Luther's movements as Nelson had them drive those well-known streets, haunts and towns of Indian River county. The characters are well developed and believable. Nelson creates both the best and the worst traits that man have to offer. The plot was well laid out and the antics evoked both tears and laughter. I love it that we still have the same old Archie but in a new City. He's never been better.
    Great read
Great plot twists! Especially fun if you know the Vero Beach area
    Four Stars
Great mystery book, enjoyed the plot twist and suspence.
    The black orchids returns
Excellent read.Life can be a maze of adventures and mishaps but in the end all works out.Anyone wanting to enjoy a good mystery should read this book.I loved it.
