June 1944: 31 SAS soldiers are captured behind enemy lines and are forced to dig their own graves before being shot and buried in a forest in the heart of France.
Seventy years later: A young woman is attacked in the grounds of Edinburgh Zoo - the attacker seeking the document that might link these two wartime events.
Private Investigator Sam Dyke rescues the woman, Chantal Bressette, and embarks on a quest to find out why the document she carries is being sought by a high-ranking Government official and his team of ex-Army thugs. They follow a series of clues that lead them eventually to an isolated village in central France, tracked by the thugs and government minister Gideon Blake, who becomes obsessed with uncovering what the document reveals because he believes it implicates his family in an obscene war crime.
Members Reviews:
Engaging characters and great detail made for a very good read!
I liked this book for the WW2 historical reference to the French Resistance and the sinking of the ship Struma, the vivid descriptions of Britain and France, as well as the light romance developing between the two main leads. Rousing action began about two thirds of the way in, although I found the ending to be a bit abrupt (Angel needed to be fleshed out somewhat more and a former relationship ending on a sour note caused a bit of a cliffhanger). Keith Dixon writes well and am glad I have another of his books already downloaded and waiting to be read! Another book I'm reminded of because of the author's superb writing skill and given the title is "Angel Dance" by M. D. Grayson if you would care to give my review a look for that as well.
Sam Dyke book 3 a terrific thrilling story!
This is the third book I have read about Sam Dyke an I am so hooked on his stories.
This one is and investigation in Sam's unique style complete with UK language and interesting country scenery and facts.
France is also included in his journeys. Sam's newly discovered son and Laura are mentioned but not involved in the action.
Now on to book 4-----thanks to the author for this exciting series.
THE HARD SWIM IS AN EASY READ
Sam Dyke is smart, tough, likableâa detective with a heart and with scruples, located in Britain, living with his formerly estranged son and Samâs most recent girlfriend.
Briefly dropping in on an international conference of translators, to serve one of them with a subpoena, Sam Dyke meets the mysterious and lovely Chantal Bressette, who has brought with her a cryptic World War II diary partially written in code by a former Resistance fighter. She hopes to find a translator. Instead, she finds trouble.
