    Genres: Kids, Ages 8-10
    Publisher's Summary:
Our story takes place in the small village of Dragon Point, Maine, population 3,283--which doesn't include Mr. Nichols' dog, Shakespeare, or Tati's black cat, Whisper. You are probably wondering where the name Dragon Point came from. Well, there is a beautiful rock formation that sits high above the town, which is unmistakably in the shape of a dragon, thus the name Dragon Point.
It is a picturesque location that attracts tourists from all over the world. They come to Dragon Point to enjoy the rugged coastline and the excellent cuisine and to explore the tiny shops that line Main Street. There are a number of fancy boutiques and an unusual number of antique shops.
Now, this is where it gets interesting, you see. The antique shops are filled with the most unique, strange, and hard-to-find antiquities. They contain bits of the past and mysteries of the future, and their proprietors are well versed on the oddest of subjects.
Yes, Dragon Point is quite an interesting place for many reasons you will soon understand.
This quaint coastal village is steeped in history. The old homes and shops are built on land that was once inhabited by sea captains, Native Americans, and maybe even a pirate or two. So one could understand that there could very well be a spirit lingering here and there. And yes, you are right, there are probably even hidden passageways in the old historical homes, unexplored caves along the coast, and things that would intrigue and capture the attention and the imaginations of the Fearless Five: five children whose names sound ordinary enough but believe me, they are not ordinary children by any means, nor are their adventures. Somehow, and for some cosmic reason, their paths were meant to cross. Call it destiny or fate that brought them together at this point in time, in this small village of Dragon Point, Maine.

An amazing tale of friendship and survival
I was given a paperback copy by the author to read and review it.
This is the second book of a trilogy about Andee the Aquanaut. I am amazed and l just love to read Simon's book.
I have to mention here, that it's so amazing how Simon can bring us with Andee into a complete different world with his broader mind and the exquisite ability to write. You read and don't won't to stop reading, because you have to find out, what is coming next. Also the excellent illustrations by Zoran Zlaticanin.
Here in that second book we come across the wise white dolphin again, who is guiding Andee in his quest. Also, as Andee and Zoran and Moorlark were catapulted in a air bubble miles and miles down to the bottom of the ocean. Here they were attacked by a giant squid. But they were rescued by thousands of dolphins. And soon, Andee realizes that they were not only dolphins, They were called: Dolphinoids.
Andee and Zoran and Moorlark are going with them to their incredible under water dwellings, still deeper to the real bottom of the ocean. It was a real city, with light and grass and plants of all sorts. And much, much more. I can't all describe here, you have to get the book to believe Simon's incredible fantasy.
But soon he was summand back from the deep, by the wise white dolphin to help and rescue a stricken passenger ship to save the passengers. Can he save them all? Well, you have to find out.
And then something else is happening.
A brilliant book by Simon James House. Recommended, not only for children.

Chester's mom says that the day something rhymes with orange, they can keep the parrot. Since nothing does, she comes up with the name Lornge, and the parrot becomes the newest member of the Dumbello family. But there's something odd about Lornge: He never sleeps. But he feels trapped in a tug of war between his aunt Dolly, who wants Chester to visit, and his mom, who doesn't want him to go. Then one night, Lornge takes him to the planet Alert, where sleeping is against the law. Chester is adopted by a family named Quick - boasting a mother and a father - and meets all kinds of strange and interesting people. He goes to school, but before long, he is convicted of being a "shuteye" and gets thrown in jail. Suddenly, his home in Lucy, Mississippi, is looking a whole lot better. This is a wildly inventive novel about a boy who yearns to run away - only to discover that there's no place like home.

A New & Enchanted Look at the First Book of the OZ Series and It's Author
Did you ever wonder where L. Frank Baum, author of the Oz Series ever got and developed the original idea for the first book? He certainly expanded it from there, but the first his staging area and his launch point. Spike Brown took the first story, and took it backward, and was able to offer an intensely interesting and believable 'take' on how Mr. Baum got involved in the story, and was able to continue the stream of enchanting sequels to the first book.
All the initial characters are there, and the book is well enough written so it's like meeting old friends. This is one of those really great books for the whole family to read together. Everyone from child to adult will enjoy it. If you have been collecting the Oz series, you will want to add this book to your collection. It is a valuable and worthy addition to any Oz collection. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys this series, and this type of book.
    Three Stars
Decent idea, though it's execution needed work and the small print made reading difficult.

    Short but enjoyable read
    My Thoughts
When I was offered Jesper Jinx as an audiobook to review I did not hesitate in saying yes. I already knew I like the book, so getting to listen to it only added another aspect to this story, leaving me wanting to know what it would sound like.
Jesper Jinx is only 1 hour and 17 minutes long, so it didn't take too long to make my way through this book. The story itself was just as funny as I remember it to be, and I was also surprised I had forgotten a few things that happened, so it was almost like listening to a new book.
One little thing that I really liked was the transfer from physical book to audio. The physical book has a page to sign for a confidentiality agreement, but the audio still has this option, only change to a voice recognition that the author supposedly records on tier end. I think this would really appeal to children listening to this book and make them interact with the book.
    Narration
I was initially unsure about the narration. I don't really know who the narrator, Peter Black, was when I went into this book, and it did take me a while to actually warm up to his reading style. There were a few parts that I think could have done with a longer pause, or parts that felt like the pause was too long or just didn't fit into the sentence itself.
    Final Verdict
Going into Jesper Jinx I knew I would enjoy the story itself, but it took me a while to warm up to the narration, and with the book being so small, by the time I warmed up to him the book was nearly over. This is the only reason why I didn't give Jesper Jinx four stars.
Overall though, Jesper Jinx was an enjoyable book and is perfect for small journeys with children.

    Publisher's Summary:
In the hilarious sequel to Shoebag, the cockroach uses his magical abilities to help a lonely boy at an all-girls' school. Shoebag and his roach family have taken up residence in the Lower School at Miss Rattray's School for Girls in Wayne, Pennsylvania.
Shoebag and his parents, Drainboard and Under the Toaster, like their new home because it's close to the kitchen. But lately, Shoebag has been dreaming about the time he was transformed into a person named Stuart Bagg - probably because the all-girls' school has just admitted its first boy. Homesick 10-year-old Stanley Sweetsong doesn't think he'll ever be good enough to join the Betters, the school's most exclusive club. What he needs is a pal - someone to help him hatch a plan to outsmart these snobs.
So Shoebag uses his secret formula to transform himself back into Stu Bagg. Suddenly, Stanley has a new roommate who inspires him to come up with a better, even more elite club: the Butters. Stanley and Josephine Jiminez, his only other friend at school, are the charter members. When the club is banned by Miss Rattray, they're forced underground - but with Shoebag's help, Stanley and Josephine concoct the perfect recipe for revenge.

    great book.
I read this book as a child, and happened to come cross the title again and thought it would be an great book to have in my collection
My son likes these books but...
I really wish someone had told me that these Kindle books don't have page numbers! I bout these books on Kindle for my son because he has to read and blog about what he has read. In his blog he has to include the number of pages read. That's very difficult to do without page numbers! We figured it out, but we shouldn't have had to!
    Five Stars
    Great
Sequel Not As Good As Original
"Shoebag Returns" is the sequel to "Shoebag". Although the sequel is a fun read, it is not as good as the original. The original was mainly about Shoebag and his hilarious cockroach family.
The sequel pushes Shoebag aside, making him a side character, which I didn't like. A new boy is the main character, but he does not possess the power to go from human to roach, and from roach to human.
The sequel moves too much like the author is speeding thru the story, rather than telling it, and let it flow smoothly as she did in the first one.
There are no fun spider characters for Shoebag and his family to be fearful of, although there is a tarantula character that has a good, small part in the story.
I was upset that Shoebag's family was removed from the sequel too soon. As the pages got thinner, I realized they were not returning. That was a shame.
The book leaves the door wide open for a third book, but as of January 2012, I'm unaware of another.
