Title: Yubi and the Blue-Tailed Rat
    Author: Georgia Hunter
    Narrator: Judith Leech
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 3 hrs and 31 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 05-01-14
    Publisher: georgia hunter
    Genres: Kids, Ages 8-10
    Publisher's Summary:
Yubi flees the Kingdom of Lavendula with three objects in his satchel and an old hag's song repeating in his head. On a quest to solve the mystery of the ancient laws and save the princess, he is pursued by ruthless Cross-eyed Org through the dark canals of Venice and beyond. His unusual cohort, Alex, a rat with more than just a blue tail, crisscrosses the story like the galleons on the high seas and provides a surprise ending. Yubi and the Blue-tailed Rat is an adventure story with simple, yet beautifully descriptive language suitable for girls and boys ages nine to 15. The vocabulary, sentence length, and complexity of story would be excellent for reluctant YA listeners or students of English.

    Exciting Read!
My grandchildren and I enjoyed Yubi and his adventures. I just ordered a second copy of this fast moving story!
A gripping, imaginative adventure for young readers
This book, the first written by Georgia Hunter, has edge-of-the seat plot development populated with a range of interesting characters, not the least of whom is the rat! The unfolding tale is the beneficiary of a vivid imagination, which takes the reader on a quest through colourful places. The descriptive language stands out, for example, '... a turquoise jacket and tight trousers that dimpled at the knees'; 'The men's bodies, bent and red, glistened with a mixture of sweat and lanolin' and 'She hooted and howled and her legs flipped and flopped'. Young readers will be transported by this adventure.
Loved by the students and the Librarian
An intriguing tale that captivated the students in the two classes to whom this Librarian chose to read the story. The characters are well developed, and interesting. The plot is exciting and takes the reader/listeners on a wild adventure to exotic places. Looking forward to the next book in the series!
    Intriguing Tale for Young Adults
Preteens will love this mystery adventure tale. Yubi and the beleagured princess must thread their way through numerous harrowing situations, helped along by (yes) a charming blue-tailed rat. The villains are dastardly and treacherous, Yubi and the princess heroic and courageous no matter how dire their situation. A good read, two thumbs up.

Kept me reading into the night!
Great story about a young teen who is chosen to fight an evil presence trying to take down her friends. Merlin, who is now working for God, has been sent to prepare Martha and to teach her how to fight the demon. She's just a regular girl but through the story she learns that she can use her new abilities and, to save her friend, will face the evil. It made me want to shout, "You go, girl!" I loved the character of Martha and how loyal she was to her friends. But I really loved Merlin and how kind he was, always teaching and inspiring her to do more, especially how much power he had been given to work his magic. It's a very cool story. Can't wait for the next one!
We need more books like this!!!
What a wonderful story! The whole thing was a great ride that really hit the mark with what I was looking for. The characters truly are inspirational and it was fun to follow along as the stage is set and Martha begins her adventures. And what an adventure this one was â the locker room show down was everything I expected â and MORE. I LOVE Merlin and itâs fantastic to have a girl hero! Canât wait for the next book â Iâm looking forward to tagging along with Martha as she heads for Japan!
A Great Adventure that must be taken
It been a long time since I read a book like this, and with it being the first in a series it signals the beginning of a great read for people of all ages.
There are two main protagonists in this novel, and both are extremely well written. The female lead is loyal and honest but, as with all girls her age she has her flaws and weaknesses. The way in which the Author portrays her over throughout the book makes her seem real and just a regular girl in less than ordinary circumstances; itâs the way in which she deals with this circumstances, comes to terms with new found abilities and fights to the end, that makes different from any other character in a book of this type that I have read. She deals with her situation in such a way that has the reader cheering her on; is she a complainer, not at all and this was what I so enjoyed about her. Itâs been a long time since a character has appeared in a book that girls can relate to and, possibly for the young bookworm, wants to be as like as they can possibly be. Itâs a great Author that can carry this energy that is put into one character over into their other main character, but this Author has pulled that off with ease. There is no skimping with development and personality of the male lead; he plays a full role in this novel that inspires and motivates his counterpart while, at the same time reaching out with these qualities to touch the reader.

TERRIFIC BOOK ON SHOWING & EXPLAINING HOW MUCH A MILLION OF ANYTHING IS ! ! !
This is one of my most favorite books on numbers, and especially to teach children (and even adults) about really just how much a million of something is !! The illustrations are terrific by Steven Kellogg, and really portray what the author David M. Schwartz is trying to explain, in a manner that is entertaining but intelligent! I love to give this book as a gift to children and you can't go wrong doing the same. It's a great book ! ! !
Really helps you understand a "million"!
What a fun book - I read this as a child and bought this for my own children. A million is a very difficult concept to grasp but this book does just that. The pictures are so lively and detailed - there are lots of things to see on every page. It also goes into "billion" and "trillion." It uses everyday objects like stars and other children to help kids intellectualy grasp how much a million really is! A classic and should be in every child's home library.
    Beautifully illustrated and great concepts
Beautifully illustrated and great concepts. I will point out that some of the characters pass away, and are represented by their headstones to show the passage of time, but it's subtle and tasteful. I didn't notice it until we'd read the book several times. On an adult note, the definition of a "trillion" really puts the national deficit into perspective!
    Nice illustrations
I got this book with my five-year-old in mind, but all of my two-year-olds and three-year-old also found it engaging. The illustrations are colorful and whimsical without being overwhelming or chaotic.
I think this book is probably best suited for slightly older children as some of the examples were not familiar to my children. For example, my children have never been in a stadium, so that example was a little abstract for them.
Overall a good book and an excellent way to introduce the concept a million.
    Five Stars
Great book to use in my classroom!

    so much fun!
I'm a Grammy. I loved this story as it reminded me of how I felt when I was 12 years old. I enjoyed it so, I couldn't put it down. The best part of it for me is that I'm getting the hardcover book of it to give to my 12 year old granddaughter. I can't wait to discuss the giggles in the story and listen to her. Tell energy one old and young about it.
    Delightfl book
I am reading this book with my 11 year old granddaughter and what a joy it has been to share this experience with her. This book is perfect for the age group listed. The setting is perfect, the characters are easy to be interested in, and it is a wonderful story. So nice to find a book that actually is as good as it looks in the introduction. I hope there will be more books for children from this author.
    Loved it!
Wonderfully written book. My 9 year old could not put it down. The best part was hearing her giggle almost the entire time she read it. Naturally I had to pick it up and read it myself when she finished, and I have to admit, I really enjoyed it as well. It brought my inner tween out :)
    Ever been the new kid?
My daughter enjoyed the characters so much she is asking if there will be another book with the same characters! Having moved to a new school last year she related to this book's characters. She also thinks this book is great for kids moving from elementary to middle school.
    Five Stars

    Publisher's Summary:
This is a story from the Famous People in History II collection.
Here are the life stories of nine famous people who have left their mark upon the world. There are men of action such as Alexander the Great and George Washington, and a woman, Joan of Arc, who inspired a nation. There are scientists whose voyages of discovery took place in laboratories: Isaac Newton, Louis Pasteur, and Marie Curie. Imagination is the fuel of the artist. The paintings of Leonardo da Vinci and the symphonies of Ludwig van Beethoven, though centuries old, still affect us today. And finally, there is the story of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, who gained freedom for his country while at the same time promoting the idea of peace and non-violence. These men and women were important in their time and, even in our computer age, show what individuals with ideals and energy can achieve.
    Editorial Reviews:
This audio biography of the father of microbiology, Louis Pasteur, begins with a little boy suffering a bite from a rabid dog and traces back to the discoveries Pasteur made about microbes that resulted in his successful treatment of the boy. Narrator Daniel Philpott's animated performance adds interest to the descriptions of Pasteur's scientific research, which revealed the presence of microbes and their effects. Philpott narrates important revelations, such as the study of germs and bacteria, in a conversational manner, lending them the feel and interest of entertaining anecdotes rather than a series of dull facts.

    Kids need heroes...
I entertain my minivan-bound children with books on tape/CD. The best are the Harry Potter series. There are many other good ones. And this is a good non-fiction title for children.
Kids need heroes, and this tape provides my 5 and 7 year old boys with some impressive ones. The heroes come from the worlds of politics, science, literature, religion... This tape is one of my 7 year old son's favorites. It has a very positive message for him. He gets ideas of what he could be.
Volume 2 (the one I have) tells the stories of some historical figures, emphasizing all the positive and heroic qualities of each: Alexander the Great, Joan of Arc, Leonardo Da Vinci, Isaac Newton, Ludwig van Beethoven, Louis Pasteur, Marie Curie, Mahatma Gandhi, and George Washington.
As an adult accustomed to having his heroes routinely discredited, I find these idealized portraits naive, but kind of refreshing. If you have kids you know that they have a purpose: to introduce you to the world again, and show you its wonder. These portraits of heroes are simplified and abstracted in a way that highlights their abilities. No jaded cynicism here. These scientists, thinkers, statesmen, musicians, were all leaders. My young leader could do worse than to select a role model from one of these larger than life heroes.
    Two other notes.
    1. The tapes are abridged, while the CDs are not. Buy the CD.
    2. Amazon has one description for both volume 1 and 2. Misleading. They contain different people.
Vol 1 - Queen Elizabeth I, Abraham Lincoln, Christopher Columbus, Horatio Nelson, William Shakespeare, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Vol 2 - Alexander the Great, Joan of Arc, Leonardo Da Vinci, Isaac Newton, Ludwig van Beethoven, Louis Pasteur, Marie Curie, Mahatma Gandhi, George Washington (This is the one I am reviewing)
Great cds for kids and adults!
Got 3 of the series for when my 7 and 10 year old grandkids would be spending a week with me.

    Great family read!
I highly recommend this book to all dog lovers and families considering becoming a dog owner. The book shares insights from the dog's perspective and highlights the need for family, friends and a level head. Problem solving and internal strength combined with intelligence and common sense are integral points. The illustrations help build the emotional connection to the characters and story line! I cannot wait for Volume 2!
Read it together as a family as there is plenty of discussion that can occur regarding mistreatment of animals. I am sharing this with my 7 grandchildren and friends who are grade school teachers.

This is a wonderful story, with a "cast" of furry character who will win kids and adults alike over with ease. There are strong lessons here, but they're couched in a great story that will stand up to repeat reads.
