    Publisher's Summary:
From the author of The New York Times number-one best-selling novel The Carpetbaggers comes a novel exposing the money, fame, sex, politics, and power that accompany being at the top of the entertainment industry. Based on the real lives of network executives and other high-profile personalities in the early days when television first became a viable threat to the all-powerful business of the silver screen, The Inheritors is the first in Harold Robbins' Trilogy of Greed and spent 21 weeks on The New York Times best-sellers list.
Steve Gaunt, the rebellious visionary, is the head of a successful television empire, making him a hit in the ratings and with gorgeous women. Sam Benjamin, one of the last of the old motion picture tycoons, desperately wants to hold on to the power that has long been associated with the more "glamorous" part of the business - the movies. When the two combine forces, they have the potential to remake the entertainment industry - or be each other's undoing. Will their friendship fall apart when their money is on the line, or will their partnership make them even more wealthy and powerful?
Entertainment is a dirty business, built by ruthless mavericks. The only rule is that nothing is real in Hollywood.

Couldn't get beyond the way women were treated, and represented. in this book. Was it really like this, or was this just this author's point of view?

Publisher's Summary:
The civilization of the ancient fifth century BC Mediterranean blossoms into life in Mika Waltari's outstanding historical novel of love, war, greed, and spiritual tumult.
Beginning in Ionia in 498 BC with the burning of the Lydian capital, Sardis, the story of Lars Turms sweeps across the Mediterranean to Delphi, Athens, then Sicily, before finally ending in Rome and ancient Etruria. Along the way, we encounter Greek warriors and pirates, Carthaginian merchants and princes, strange priests and priestesses, and trading centers, great and small. It is a fascinating glimpse of a world on the verge of wrenching change. Few cultures will survive unscathed.
With Greece on the cusp of war against mighty Persia in the East and wealthy Carthage in the West, the peoples of a dozen cultures hold their breath in anticipation. The old ways will not survive the probing, skeptical minds of the Greeks, and Lars Turms' destiny is to accommodate himself and his people to altering circumstances far different from anything he could have possibly anticipated.
This exciting novel plays out on the background of actual historical events and real personalities. In order to enhance your enjoyment, we urge listeners to access the included PDF map of the ancient Mediterranean and the brief historical explanation.

    Surprised fan......
What was most disappointing about Mika Waltaris story?
I was surprised how I felt about this book after listening to it. I loved the Roman and the Egyptian, that being said, I wasn't happy with the story line. The performance was great and as historical novels go, it was worth the credit.
    Any additional comments?
As a Waltari fan it's a must listen.

    Publisher's Summary:
Harry Flashman: the unrepentant bully of Tom Brown's schooldays, now with a Victoria Cross, has three main talents - horsemanship, facility with foreign languages, and fornication.
A reluctant military hero, Flashman plays a key part in most of the defining military campaigns of the 19th century, despite trying his utmost to escape them all.
What was Harry Flashman doing on the slopes of Little Bighorn, caught between the gallant remnant of Custer's 7th Cavalry and the attack of Sitting Bull's braves? He was trying to get out of the line of fire and escape yet again with his life (if not his honour) intact.
Here is the legendary and authentic West of Mangas Colorado's Apaches, of Kit Carson, Custer and Spotted Tail, of Crazy Horse and the Deadwood stage, gunfighters and gamblers, scoundrels and Indian belles, enthusiastic widows and mysterious adventuresses. The West as it really was terrifying!
    Critic Reviews:
"The Flashman Papers do what all great sagas do - winning new admirers along the way but never, ever betraying old ones. It is an immense achievement." (Sunday Telegraph)
"Not so much a march as a full-blooded charge, fortified by the usual lashings of salty sex, meticulously choreographed battle scenes and hilariously spineless acts of self preservation by Flashman." (Sunday Times)
"Not only are the Flashman books extremely funny, but they give meticulous care to authenticity. You can, between the guffaws, learn from them." (Washington Post)
"A first-rate historical novelist" (Kingsley Amis)

    You can't beat Flashy
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I love the Flashman books, you get to brush up on your 19th century history whilst being thoroughly entertained by a truly great anti-hero. This adventure takes off right after the ending of Flash for Freedom! (One of my favorite episodes).
Colin Mace makes a decent stab at the narration but he for me his portrayal ultimately fails to truly inhabit the character of Flashman. His voice and performance miss the mark in capturing the searing wit, charm and cowardice of the man. The ultimate Flashman narrator is Timothy West (a fantastic actor who performed 7 of the 12 books) he is head and shoulders above any of the performers who've attempted Flashy. I think it's a great shame his versions of Flashman's adventures seem so hard to come by. If I had my way they would be re-released with West recording the remaining 5 books.
    Flashy Flashman
Have all the flashman books and many on either cd or on Audible etc. This is one of the best, and most enjoyable adventures for our anti hero...Quite well narrated too, although not to the standards of the likes of Timothy West.
    Barnstorming Romp
    Just awesome.
Why isn't there a statue of Flashy in Central London?
One of the best stories out of the 12, in fact it's my equal 12th favorite.
    Further Flashman
The story is split into two parts, the 1849-50 trek out west, and Flashman's return to America just before Little Big Horn. If you've reached this far in the series, then you'll know what to expect.
Flashman is the same monster as he ever was. He still somehow manages to wriggle out of trouble through undeserved luck, unabashed cowardice and seduction.

    Publisher's Summary:
Having been drawn to the wild for a number of years, young Luke McKinney is forced to leave 1839 St. Louis for the North Country even sooner than he expected to go. At 17, along with a female companion and an elderly father figure, he is literally running for his life.
With the law pursuing him and the wilderness unforgiving, he finds himself caught up in a survival system that has nothing to do with civilization or laws.
Then the unthinkable happens: The love of his life is taken from him. It is during the pursuit of her captors that Luke finds a strength and determination that will shape his moral existence for the remainder of his life.
This is a trilogy of books that spans the lives of Luke McKinney and Breanne Bruyere, their undying love, through hell and high water, for over 50 years.
Daring, thrilling, romantic, historic... What else is there? Unforgettable!
    Members Reviews:
Exciting Western Trilogy kept me reading EVERY moment I could spare
This trilogy spans many decades as it follows the young love of Luke & Breanne as they run off together with an older gentleman named Pierre. Breanne is kidnapped by Indians and that begins the star crossed lovers extremely long separation. The stories mostly focus on Luke with starring roles by Breanne, Sarah, and a young Indian named Chaska. It is truly a western frontier adventure with so many twists and ironic turns along the way.
Unlike most trilogies, the weakest book in the series is the first (in my opinion). I still found it enjoyable, and went on to read the 2nd and 3rd books which I enjoyed much more. You do have to read the first book to understand what is going on, as these are in no way stand alone novels. It is definitely something I would recommend for Western readers, and I think many romance readers would enjoy it as well (though it is a "tame" romance). It was something outside my usual books and I really enjoyed it. I will be keeping an eye out for more of his work.
    History of the wild west.
I loved this trilogy! Covering a span of over fifty years, the story brings to life the expansion of the country west. The story of Luke McKinney starts in St. Louis in 1839. It tells the tale of his life and his love for his wife Breanne. On the run from the law, they find happiness in a small cabin on a river. Breanne is captured by indians and Luke, while trying to find her, mistakenly thinks she was killed. He changes his name to Tom Hill and a friend helps to spread a tale that Luke was killed, ending the search for him for murdering an evil sherrif who deserved it. Breanne hears the rumor and, despondent, travels east to New York. The story then goes on to tell of their lives and unending love. With a cast of colorful characters and striking images of a virgin land populated by indians, the story tells the history of our country as seen through Luke's eyes. It is brought to life by cameo appearances by such historical figures as Jim Bridger, Gen. Custer, Sitting Bull, and Crazy Horse, among others. Will Luke ever be reunited with his lost love? Read this stirring tale of our country's growth. You will not be disappointed!
    Captivating story
This is one of the best books I have read in a long time. It keeps you right in the middle of the telling and doesn't let you go. I hated to see it end. Thank you Mr.

Second installment: Visceral and compelling story.
Compelling and addictive story shedding insights into many key characters. The telling of a life guided by founding experiences honed over time and underpinned by core values with a form of moral code. Well written, yet some narration somewhat wooden.
very enjoyable and the story line is very good
as good as Bernard Cornwall, keeps you wanting to read more and not able to put it down. I listen to the books whilst walking my springer spanial he has never walked as far or as often. just downloaded the next book Gate of the Dead so will be off in the morning.

    outstanding
I loved it. Mickey Rawlings is a great series and a great story line, especially if you love baseball.
    Love these Baseball mysteries
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I have listened to all of the Troy Soos books with Mickey Rawlings. I've enjoyed each and everyone of them. I keep them in my active folder so that I can listen to them over and over. I feel like they bring the baseball history to life, even though I know that Mickey is fictional character.
What other book might you compare The Tomb That Ruth Built to and why?
I would compare it to all of the Mickey Rawlings series books. They're all worth listening to over and over again
Which character as performed by Johnny Heller was your favorite?
    Mickey is always my favorite
If you could take any character from The Tomb That Ruth Built out to dinner, who would it be and why?
I would love to take Mickey Rawlings to dinner and just listen to him talk about baseball and the different teams and players that he's met
    Any additional comments?
I wish there were more Mickey Rawlings stories.
The Roaring Twenties, Baseball, and Murder
My favorite genre is mysteries and I enjoy baseball so I was excited to listen to this story. The main character is Mickey Rawlins, a utility infielder, who recently joined the New York Yankees. He is an all around good guy and management pairs him up with Babe Ruth in hopes the he can be a good influence on Ruth. Meanwhile, Yankee Stadium is just being completed and a dead body is found in one of the walls. That is not the kind of publicity the owner needs so Mickey is enlisted to investigate while trying to keep news of the murder from getting out to the public. Mickey just wants to play ball but realizes if he doesn't take on the job he won't see much playing time.
The story felt very historically correct to me. Prohibition is in full swing and there are plenty of gangsters around. The author definitely knows baseball and has done his research on the time and setting. I listened with my daughter in the car and did not experience any cringe worthy moments which I appreciate. Johnny Heller did a great job narrating. I felt his pacing was good and his voice was a comfortable fit for the story.
This is book 7 in the Mickey Rawlins series but it is a standalone story. I have not listened to any of the others but I enjoyed this one enough that I plan to. Mickey is getting up in age for a ballplayer. I would like to know what the future holds for he and his girlfriend Margie so I hope Mr.

The world is ending. One by one the mighty cities are falling to earthquakes, to floods, to raiders on both land and sea.
In a time of war and doubt, Gull is an oracle. Daughter of a slave taken from fallen Troy, chosen at the age of seven to be the voice of the Lady of the Dead, it is her destiny to counsel kings.
When nine black ships appear, captained by an exiled Trojan prince, Gull must decide between the life she has been destined for and the most perilous adventure--to join the remnant of her mother's people in their desperate flight. From the doomed bastions of the City of Pirates to the temples of Byblos, from the intrigues of the Egyptian court to the haunted caves beneath Mount Vesuvius, only Gull can guide Prince Aeneas on his quest, and only she can dare the gates of the Underworld itself to lead him to his destiny.
In the last shadowed days of the Age of Bronze, one woman dreams of the world beginning anew. This is her story.

    Black ships
What did you like best about this story?
Another great novel byJo Graham including a lot of historical detail in her books. This one did not disappoint! If you love historical fictions, this is surely one to buy. Narrator is good too.
Retelling of Virgil and Homer stories.
Would you listen to Black Ships again? Why?
Yes. I'm going to continue on in the series. I think it would be kind of fun to read Virgil and Homer then this again.
If youve listened to books by Jo Graham before, how does this one compare?
    This is my first time.
Have you listened to any of Gigi Shanes other performances before? How does this one compare?
    This is my first time.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
There were a few parts that did make me laugh. I found the little argument while some were sleeping funny. I didn't cry.
    Any additional comments?
I liked it. It's mainly from the POV of Gull, an oracle. It's also a great deal of being on ships on the sea and trying to survive and having freedom. There is a romance in this. There are a few humorous scenes. I'll put it on the TRL for in case I'd like to
    Excellent historical novel
Black ships really intrigued me and it was the first story of Jo Graham's that I had purchased. The period of time in this story has long been an interest of mine, but I was not aware of the historical background Graham had completed relevant to this story. Names and places sounded almost right, but it was not until after I had listened to the entire story and then listened to Graham's explanation, that the dots were connected for me. After hearing the author's comments, I will go back and listen again. An engaging story with a most interesting main character.
Full of adventure, deities, and war!
This is the story of Gull, a slave born of a slave. Her mother and many people like her were taken from fallen Troy. Gull was allowed to stay with her mother, working the flax that grew along the irrigation ditches until the day an accident left her crippled. Her mother found her another role in life, that as acolyte at the temple of Pythia, she who speaks for the Lady of the Dead. Gull grows up learning the inner mysteries of the Underworld and prophecy.
