    Title: The Bible Simplified

    Format: Unabridged
Length: 3 hrs and 30 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 11-16-15
    Publisher: David Allen
Ratings: 3 of 5 out of 1 votes
    Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Christianity
    Publisher's Summary:
The Bible is not necessarily easy to understand because it is not a book but more than 60 books, written by those inspired by God over a period of 1700 years. There have been many Bible study guides, methods, systems and outlines published in a sincere effort to help people read the Bible. However, for many people these guides are intimidating and unintentionally confusing as they direct the reader to take a section of one book, sections from other books, and piece them together like building a puzzle.
To piece together sections of 66-plus individual books over the course of a year or more and understand them as a single completed work can be overwhelming and lead to many different conclusions. Also there is danger in bouncing between or skipping over sections as vital facts can be missed, completely changing a meaning and lesson. This is one of the major reasons why we ended up with dozens of different Christian denominations.
The Bible actually can be easy to read because it flows with a consistent teaching or message throughout. Times change, people and cultures change, and circumstances change, but what pleases God, and what angers him, does not.
God's expectations and the way he looks at us has never changed. He has made slight adjustments based on the way we respond and act, as all good parents do, but he never raised or lowered his expectations.
The Bible Simplified is not a system or guide but a long overdue chronology that begins before the creation of mankind, walks you through the garden, through the Old Testament, into the New Testament and through the Apostles' teachings. This is not a children's book but an easy read with a level of detail that delivers simple clarity and complete harmony in all of the books that make up the Bible.

    Publisher's Summary:
When Jesus' disciples asked him to teach them how to pray he warned them against making a display of their praying in order to be seen of men. They should retire to their "inner chamber" and pray to the Father who sees in secret and rewards openly. Then he said, "After this manner therefore pray." The Lord's Prayer was given as a sample: not to be followed literally. It is a petition according to the American revision; but according to Fenton's translation it is a series of affirmations.

    Publisher's Summary:
That which is most profoundly spiritual is in reality most directly practical. We are told: "Do not be anxious, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' for your heavenly father knows that you need them all. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all of these things shall be yours as well." Here is a priority. Your heavenly father knows you have to eat, drink, and clothe yourself, and they will all be yours if you will put first things first; and the first thing is to seek the kingdom of God and his righteousness, for God is in his kingdom; and when you find the kingdom, you find God.
While listening to a book, you may be aware of the phone ringing or someone entering the room. Although your attention is on the book, it does not exclude these events, which are marginal. So if, when you hear the story of the kingdom and how to enter it, your attention remains there, your heavenly father will care for all of your marginal needs as you modify your concepts concerning God's plan of salvation.

    Seek the Kingdom!
This reading will be difficult for many to accept! The reason is because we have been programmed to believe in a God that man has framed in his mind, in order to accept the belief. In essence, man's beliefs is the reason we worship a God that is separate from us. Nothing is farther from the truth!
It is said, "A lie told 1000 times is much easier to believe, than to believe a truth told once!"
God is ready to reveal himself to you, but the most important question is "are you willing to erase everything you have been programmed with about him, and accept the revelation of who He is? Do you believe you are ready to enter into His kingdom?

Tonight's subject is "Christ Unveiled". That is quite a tall order, for we are told in Mark 13:21: "If anyone says to you, 'Look, here is Christ!' or 'Look, there he is!' do not believe it." And I will endorse that 100 percent. Listen to it carefully and see the pronoun used in that sentence. "Here he is, believe him not." So, here, who is Christ? What is Christ? Where is Christ? Paul found him and, having found him, he said: "From now on we regard no one from a human point of view even though we once regarded Christ from a human point of view, we regard him thus no longer."

    Members Reviews:
    Great story
A great story about two canoe trips with Christian thoughts and stories added in. If your not into religion those sections can be bypassed but you would be missing some good food for thought.
A book that will leave everyone feeling spiritual!
As I finish the book " a River Calling", I look back at the pages, underlined; dog-eared and tear-stained. Mr. Frontin tells a remarkable tale of a journey as a young man, a journey of faith and a journey of fatherhood. A tale everyone will be able to relate to in one sense or another. Telling more than one story in a book is no small feat and as a first time, published writer I was impressed at the ease he was able to take the reader from one tale and then to the other. Never realizing how long the Missouri River was, it is hard to fathom what it takes to canoe such a daunting river. The adventures of these four young men filled me with both admiration and inspiration at what one can do if they set their minds to it. The history he weaves into this excursion is also educational, that I am sure most Americans are unfamiliar with.
As we face many trials and tribulations in our own lives, especially during the maturation years, it seems the parenting skills these days, are less than desirable. Mr. Frontin's relationship with his sons, his strong desire to be the best father possible and his comparison of the Lord, the Almighty "Father" is such a refreshing outlook and one that all fathers should take heed. It is not just the 3 day canoe trip Glenn does with Dustin and Joshua, but his continued ability to be awed by nature, God's beautiful Creation, and share what he saw. His love and consideration for his wife and daughter are never far from his thoughts as he spends this cherished adventure with his sons.
I am not a religious individual, but I found myself drawn to the biblical comparisons. It helped me realize how special the world around us is and saw how the teachings of God can and should reflect our actions and outcome. I read "a River Calling" on my own journey, as I travel extensively for work. I finished the book on one plane ride and as I waited for my connection, I purchased a Cross necklace that I proudly wore home.
A True Blessing That Flows From The Heart
If you love American history, outdoor adventure and are a committed father in terms of raising your son(s) God's way, you won't want to miss this book. The author takes you on an unforgettable journey retracing the footsteps of Lewis and Clark with his own 2000 plus mile canoe adventure as a young man on the Missouri river in 1979 and later in life as a father with his own boys. Around every corner the author pours his heart out about his love of the outdoors, his country, his family and his own personal struggles as a man together with his wife charged with the most important responsibility in the world i.e. raising Godly children.
As a parent who can relate to similar challenges in life I found that the book just draws you in.

  • What's So Great About the Doctrines of Grace? Audiobook by Richard D. Phillips

Length: 2 hrs and 37 mins
    Language: English

Ratings: 5 of 5 out of 3 votes
    Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Christianity
    Publisher's Summary:
In What's So Great About the Doctrines of Grace?, the Rev. Richard D. Rick Phillips shows that the doctrines of grace, those theological tenets more popularly known as the five points of Calvinism, are comforting, faith strengthening, and humbling teachings.
In six short chapters, Rev. Phillips demonstrates conclusively from scripture that this view of salvation exalts God and makes plain his great love for man, which drove him to do all that was necessary to redeem a people for himself. In his opening chapter, Rev. Phillips cites the calling of Isaiah the prophet to show that a proper understanding of the sovereignty of God leads to a willingness to serve, a humble obedience to God's commands, a holy boldness, and a firm reliance on sovereign, saving grace.
Then, over the next five chapters, he deals with the five doctrines of grace one by one - total depravity, unconditional election, limited atonement, irresistible grace, and perseverance of the saints - providing thorough explanations, answering objections, and showing how the doctrines advance Christian living. What's So Great About the Doctrines of Grace? is a compact treasure chest of scriptural wisdom.

    Publisher's Summary:
Many Christian women wouldnt identify themselves as "feminists." However, according to Courtney Reissig, weve all been influenced by the feminist movement in profound ways, unconsciously reflecting our culture's notions about what it means to be a woman. Helping listeners navigate a wise path in the midst of a confused world, this book chronicles the journey of a wife, mom, and successful writer as she recounts her journey from "accidental feminism" to a biblical view of womanhood. Filled with wise insights related to relationships, body image, and women's roles in the home and the Church, this thought-provoking book will help Christian women carefully consider these important issues.
    Members Reviews:
    Excellent!
I would recommend this book to all women, feminist or not. Puts feminism in perspectives that have been lost in our culture. Reminds Christian women what it means to be Christian women.
    A bit Trite
Would you try another book from Courtney Reissig and/or Elizabeth Whitestone?
Seemed to rehash many of the typical 'conservative evangelical' (whatever that means anymore) viewpoints without much real depth. I was expecting more original or nuanced thoughts.

    Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Christianity
    Publisher's Summary:
The papacy, next to Christianity, is the great fact of the modern world. Of the two, the former, unhappily, has proved, in some respects, to be the more powerful spring in human affairs and has acted the more public part on the stage of the world. To fully trace the rise and development of this stupendous system is to write a history of Western Europe: the decay of empires; the extinction of religious systems; the dissolution and renewal of society; the rise of new states; the change of manners, customs, and laws; the policy of courts; the wars of kings; and the decay and revival of letters, of philosophy, and of arts.
These all connect themselves with the history of the papacy, to whose growth they ministered and whose destiny they helped to unfold. On so wide a field of investigation, neither our time nor our limits permit us to enter. Let it suffice that we indicate, in general terms, the main causes that contributed to the rise of this tremendous power and the successive stages that marked the course of its portentous development.

Chapter II: Scripture and Tradition. Dogmas of the Papacy
Chapter III: Of Reading the Scriptures
Chapter IV: Unity of the Church of Rome

Chapter VI: Apostolicity, or Peter's Primacy
    Chapter VII: Infallibility
    Members Reviews:
    Great book
What did you love best about History of the Papacy?
I have been studying medieval history, in particular, Church history for 28 years now and I find this book to be one of the best books on the subject. The author is obviously very knowledgeable on the papacy. He is extremely accurate on the subject. This book is not a quick read; on the contrary it is very in-depth on the subject. Wylie gives many references for his sources which lend to the accuracy of the writing; in addition, it is also very useful if you want to study the topic further. If I were to recommend one book on the subject of the papacy this would be it. I know that many people will not like this book because of some of the harsh things that are presented in regards to the catholic church, but, in fact, it is not this type of book that they are at odds with, but instead with the Catholic churches' history. At times, it has been less than nice and as historians, we cannot slant the truth of history because we don't care for what it looks like.
What did you like best about this story?
    It was very scholarly.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
    Very insightful.
This is really great! The history is true!
Although many people will not agree, this is true history, as Wylie takes a look at history through a Biblical lens. That means there are no Popes, hence, not everyone who is not Protestant will be happy with this at all.
