Critic Reviews:
"Excellent." (Birmingham Post)
"Phone-off-the-hook-time." (Independent)
"Here is a classic quest story intertwining kidnapping, murder, deception, fraud and farce with a Sumo wrestler in the unlikely role of fairy godmother. Lovesey sustains his reputation as a deft mystifier in one of the choicest crime-shelf entertainments of the year." (Guardian)
"Lovesey hatches the trickiest of plots, warmed with humour and characterisation to make them credible." (Literary Review)
"Superb, unashamedly traditional crime writing." (Publishers Weekly)

Excellent
Love this series, I didn't manage to work out who did it until the end!
Buy these books in the right order!
I enjoy the series of Peter Lovesey's and bought the series in the wrong order. It doesn't detract from each of the single books but I have gone back and am working my way through them. Great, staple, English cop stories - usually without any American involvement. That's the way I like them and this one was set partly in America and Japan and it worked really well.
Excellent
Throughly enjoyed this book... I nearly always give 5 stars, if I dont enjoy a book I return it or dont finish it. This book really kept my interest, unusual story, likeable main character, excellent narrator..no bad language, just a really good well written detective story. Have just downloaded the next in the series. Thank you Peter Lovesey:-) Also, thank you to Michael Tudor Barnes for great narration!
