Dark Mystery Thriller With Lots of Suspense and Murder

If you like dark twisted crime/murder thrillers you will enjoy this Audiobook. It is NOT my favorite genre but it kept me entertained until the end. There is some humor intertwined into the story which makes it even more entertaining to read/listen.

The Author does a good job describing the characters, place, and situations throughout the story. As on most mystery thrillers it leaves us hanging a bit at the end.

The narrator did an excellent Job and brought the story to life.

Overall it was an entertaining read full of twists and turns. The Author kept us guessing at the edge of our seats and it was not a predictable book.

This audiobook was provided free of charge in exchange for my honest unbiased opinion.

Keystone Kops on Steroids!!!

I really enjoyed listening to this book. Not really so much a murder mystery...more of a "how to get away with murder" comedy. Comedy isn't the right word, but I'll go into this later.

The story revolves mostly around a single night and the activities of several main characters. It starts out simple enough with a hustler, her partner, a local therapist, a lawyer and his wife, and the lawyers two friends. Think of this book as a hustle gone wrong, but not just a little...this is a hustle gone wrong in biblical proportions! People start dropping like flies, and most of the book is centered on how those remaining deal with the situation.

The narration was pretty good. Most of the voices were discernable and the therapist sounded deranged and megalomaniacal, but it seemed to fit by the end. Really did a good job of inflecting emotion when and where appropriate.

Something that I loved was the way the author would go through a scene with one character, then rewind and go through that exact same scene from another character's perspective. It really helped to fill in holes. It felt a little weird from a timeline perspective, but for the storyline, it worked pretty well.

As for the story itself, it felt at time like a cross between Murphy's Law, the Keystone Kops and "What else can possibly go wrong," all wrapped up together. I found myself chuckling a few times in astonishment that the next mishap was even possible, let alone followed shortly by another one. It was a comedy of misfortune, almost to the point where it's really not feasibly possible to believe, but the author did a good job of pulling it off.

What made the experience of listening to War Kids: A Syrian Story the most enjoyable?

This was an amazing and It was intriguing, captivating, and so compelling.

It brings to life the imaginable facts of war and how people affected are forced to live through it.

It has an astonishing way of giving multiple character views as well as a remarkable ability to draw in such emotions.

Jada and Zach are just children...young teens and are thrown into a war of horrific proportions...there loved ones are dead...and they have to lead a group small kids to safety...fighting to stay alive, not starve and not knowing who they can trust...this is set in Syria..which really touched my heart...I loved this story...I did not want to put it down...the narration was super duper great and I highly recommend it!!!

I loved how this book brings the kids together showing how they all coped.

Yet another mystery in Caesars Creek has me reeling! From start to finish, the story was an exciting roller-coaster of events. Caesar's Creek seems to be filled to the brim with hidden surprises, but thanks to Clark's expert narration the suspense was there to keep me hooked.

Glad to have given it a chance

The story was a little slow to build but the character development was excellent and plot began moving quite quickly. Sting Larson would have liked it, especially the RSA crack and the strong role of female characters, including of course Lisbeth Salander.

But it is certainly not a page-turner like Millennium 1-3

I started reading Millennium 4 open-minded, and I found the plot entertaining. But it is certainly not a page-turner like Millennium 1-3. After having read the book from cover to cover, I was a bit disappointed by the one-dimensional description of Mikael and Lisbeth. To check whether I was just romanticizing Millennium 1-3 (by which I was deeply impressed a few years ago), I started re-reading the three books by Stieg Larsson. Now I am really sure that Millennium 1-3 have much more depth than Millennium 4. But I will certainly read Millennium 5 once it is there...

Real page-turner, but a bit disappointing compared with the original 3 Blomquist-Salander novels of Larsson

This is as genuine a thriller as Stig's first three novels, but Lagerkrantz lacks Stig's sheer narrative drive. I do hope that Lagerkrantz tries again with another lisbeth Salander/Mikael Blomquisk thriller.

Not very good. I kept skipping pages of irrelevant backgrounds of the hundreds of irrelevant characters. Just a small fraction of the book is about Lisbeth. Lacks the excitement of the Larsson books.

was getting Reacher withdrawal waiting for the new Lee Child book so though I'd try this short story... good listen but just too short.. builds and then a disappointing all too quick ending...

Outlandish and fun suspense thriller

The publisher's summary tells plenty about the story, but it does not do justice to the humor mixed in with the suspense. Stealing Sweetwater is a fun listen. Narration is superb.

Kinda cheesy

I write very few reviews but I felt like I needed to add my $.02 to this one.

This is a good book if you just want a relaxing story that doesn't have a lot of depth to the characters or storyline. It's well written and easy to follow but the story is, like my title says...cheesy.

The ending felt rushed. Almost as if the author got bored of writing the story and slapped together a few ideas. Almost gave it a whimsical Disney romance ending.

That's just the way I see it. No offense to the author. I'm not a writer and I appreciate people that do write.

Perhaps I'll read (or listen) to a few other books by Mathew Iden. Just to get a more rounded take.

Recommend book? Yes

Mixed feelings

There is humor here though it is of a black nature for the most part. I have mixed feelings about the tone of the story -- for the most part I really enjoyed it. Yet it comes with a certain callousness that didn't quite achieve tongue-in-cheek cleverness for me. Still worth a good listen!

I will definitely recommend this audiobook to friends! I was fortunate enough to receive this audiobook as a gift, but I'm more than ready to purchase the next one in the series. I love psychological thrillers with a little exoticness... YES!

What did you like best about this story?

Although at times I was frustrated with the main character and her choices, it didn't keep me from listening and finishing this audiobook as quick as I did... I had to know what was going to happen next!

Which character as performed by Gwendolyn Druyor was your favorite?

I like them all! Gwendolyn Druyor keeps a tone in her voice for certain characters that leave you questioning whether you can trust them or not. At times I found myself questioning the motives of every character involved.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

50 Shades of a Serial Killer!

Very Enjoyable.

This book was good especially for this to be Amara first novel it was good reading, the narrator was nice to listen to also . I did not have to struggle with this at all, continue the good work.

Cringe worthy.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

No. I can't imagine my friends would want to listen to this all the way to the end. The main character is weak. I could not get the least bit connected to her. I can't imagine listening to another of the series as I'm not really interested in seeing what happens to the group.

Would you ever listen to anything by Amara Draska again?

Perhaps, if it's not in the Eisenbrey series. Amara seems to have a knack for writing but unless she changes this main character, I'm not interested.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

I really disliked the "darlin" speak of Eisenbrey. There was NOTHING likable about him and his (her) accent was grating.

Do you think The Way Evil Does needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

No. I've already stated why.

This was a hard book to listen to all the way through but since this is specially for the author's benefit to see what we like or not, I finally got all the way through. I love audible books as it lets me listen while I work or drive instead of just sitting reading but this book was sort of a waste of time.

I liked the way that this story went from one place to another and dealt with a number of issues before coming to a conclusion where all parties met. Thoroughly enjoyable.

Laugh in parts. Being ex-service I like the way the banter rolls into the story.

I am a huge fan of the narrator but I think he has made a mistake with one of the characters in this book. Otherwise this was Thornley at his best. I quite like the way Mr Leather puts his stories together.

A good holiday book. hope the real world is not actually like this. kept me enthralled while running and took my mind off the miles.

The pleasure of listening to Jeff Lindsay's prose, replete with dry humour and frequent alliteration, read by Lindsay himself, perfectly pouring his narration from the page

What was one of the most memorable moments of Double Dexter?

Have you listened to any of Jeff Lindsays other performances? How does this one compare?

I have listened to all of the books in the Dexter series so far. Lindsay is superb in them all and, to my ear, captures the very essence of his hero. His voice has a slinky, sultry, sulky tone when reading Dexter himself (which is the majority as we view the world through his eyes), but changes for the conversational input of the other characters.

No laughter but a big, contented smile

I've seen the T.V. series and enjoyed it but this audio series is so much better. Jeff Lindsay's portrayal is superb and lifts the whole book from a decent enough detective style series into something to savour and really enjoy.

This was better than the last book, tight story. The last one was a bit unwieldy. Dexter up to his usual tricks. I like the way the author reads the stories too.
