In this episode, we discuss stevia.
We begin with going over where stevia comes from, stevia in general and how it's digested in the body.
Next, we discuss some potential benefits of stevia (antihyperglycemic, anti-inflammatory and cardiovascular.
We end the episode with a summary (dosage, my thoughts, etc).
Notes: At around 7 minutes 50 seconds, I said that stevia is 200 to 300 times sweeter than sugar. It's actually 200 to 300 percent sweeter, so 2 to 3 times sweeter.
At roughly the 25 min 07 second mark, I said GLUT4 exists in liver cells. I should have said skeletal and cardiac muscle cells.
Sticking with GLUT4 I mention several times in the episode that GLUT4 isn't in adipose tissue (fat). While preparing to release this episode, I found other sources that state it does exist in adipose tissue. This doesn't change the overall potential benefit of stevia.
Around 42 minutes 35 seconds, I state that stevia could produce CA2+ ions from entering cardiac cells. I meant to say stevia could prevent...

In this episode, I discuss some tips/techniques that I use to help prevent high blood sugar levels.
In addition, I go over another diet tip that looks to be helping. I discovered this technique after publishing the episode 'Controlling Blood Sugar - Diet'
Just a heads up that there are a couple of times that some feedback can be heard in the background. You still should be able to clearly hear what I'm saying. This occurs around the 11 minute 48 second mark to the 12 minute 20 second mark.

In this episode, I go over a couple of questions that I ask myself before buying anything.
Then I give my two cents on 'wasting money'.
Along with some long winded examples in true Howard's Blend style.

This is a follow up episode to the show titled 'Controlling Blood Sugar - Diet.'
Instead of focusing on my personal experience, we cover the science of how berberine is supposed to help with blood sugar levels.
Clarifications:
I state that a possible benefit of berberine is to inhibit (stop) gluconeogenesis.
I believe I interpreted the literature wrong. It used the term inhibit, but in this case inhibit means to hinder.
So by downregulating (which I also got the definition wrong) gluconeogenic enzymes, gluconeogenesis is reduced.
Downregulation in this context is to diminish the stimulus response of the enzymes on the liver.

This is the first of two (at this time) 'correction' episodes.
This episode focuses primarily on an error that I originally made in the first episode of the Beta-Alanine miniseries.
In that episode, I stated that the cause of muscle fatigue (drop in the pH of the muscle) is the rise of lactate. This is incorrect.
The second error is when I stated in the episode titled "My Thoughts On The Supplement Business" that Beta-Alanine is what helps to reduce muscle fatigue directly. This is only part of the picture.
So I thought why not make an episode going over the literature I read to correct my mistakes.
Notes:
I mispronounced the term oxidative phosphorylation several times during this episode. I pronounced it oxidative phosphorlyzation. Just keep that in mind while listening.
Second, is the reaction that creates lactate. It's lactate or lactic acid fermentation. However, the enzyme that is a catalyst in this reaction is lactate dehydrogenase. I've seen lactate/lactic acid fermentation also called the lactate dehydrogenase reaction.
Third, I couldn't remember what the term NAD is. It's nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide.
There's a couple of parts in the recording where I edited out some mishaps. First, my phone that was recording the video fell off the shelf. So I had edit out me putting it back on the shelf. Second, my wife came into the closet at the end of the episode during the outro. Just FYI.

Discussing some diet techniques that I've found through trial and error help control my blood sugar levels.
The follow up episode will go over some lifestyle techniques.
Disclaimer: This episode covers my personal experience. I have no scientific data to backup my results. Please don't take the content of this episode as a substitute for a visit to your doctor. I can't stress this enough. What works for one person may be extremely dangerous for someone else. Especially, someone that's prediabetic or has diabetes.
Notes: I had a brain fart and forgot how blood sugar levels are usually conveyed. It's listed as milligrams per deciliter. mg/dl.
Also, coumarin is the substance that's discussed in the part about cinnamon.
Finally, at roughly 33 min 03 to 33 min 04 sec I state that too much blood sugar could be bad for bone density. I meant to say too much apple cider vinegar.
The trailer for the movie my friend wrote, directed and acts in 'Distance To Empty' is on Kickstarter. The campaign is over, but we're looking at other means to raise money to produce the feature length film.

In this episode, I discuss my thoughts on the supplement industry. Well some of them.
This is the first episode that I recorded in its entirety on video. I'll release the video version of the podcast on social media (in parts) over the next week or so.
My plan is to return to this topic in a year. This is to see if my thoughts, assumptions, etc have changed.
I mention the mastermind group I'm a part of during this episode. The creator of the mastermind is Mr. Marc Jeffrey. The other members of the group are Harmony Garcia, Rodney Sadler, Lea Meakin and Micheal Bailey-Brown.

Notices:
At 29 minutes, I state that beta-alanine acts as a buffer to lactic acid. This is incorrect. Beta-Alanine is one component that
is used to create carnosine. Carnosine can help to buffer lactic acid.
Between 45 min 35 sec and 45 min 50 sec, I replaced the audit with noise. I did this because what I said during this time was
incorrect. Instead of leaving the audio in the episode, I'd rather do a follow up video to be released on social media that explains
what I said and why it was wrong.

In addition, we go over the role of arginine with regards to nitric oxide.
Then we get to main topic of this episode. Citrulline. What is citrulline?
How is citrulline related to arginine and nitric oxide?
What's the difference between citrulline and citrulline malate?
What's the proper dosage of citrulline and citrulline malate?
