  • Mike’s Mind: My Personal Goal Playbook (Episode 313)

In this episode, I talk about my Personal Goal Playbook. A friend of mine recently commented that every day he reads his personal vision statement and then he reads his goals -- and then he writes down the 3 things that he needs to do today to make progress toward achieving those goals, some of which are long-term goals.

I realized I didn’t havea personal vision statement, per se. I do have goals, quarterly and longer-term, which reminded me of a leadership program in which I participated in 2008. I related to the group of the way in which I want to run my life – it wasn’t structured like a vision statement, more like a Personal Goal Playbook, but I thought I would share the dozen or so items to which I committed in 2008 – and I believe have served me well.

I hope you get some value from my Personal Goal Playbook.  Enjoy!

  • Mike’s Mind: Be the Buyer in Your Life (Episode 311)

In this episode, I talk about something that is in my friend, Justin Breen’s new book. The book is called “Epic Life - How to Build Collaborative Global Companies While Putting Your Loved Ones First,” and I definitely recommend you pick it up.

The chapter I want to talk to you about today is Chapter 26 – Be the Buyer.  It really resonated with me and made me focus on whether we want to be the seller or the buyer in the transactions of our life, regardless of whether or not we are the actual “buyer.” Justin’s concept completely flips on its head the mindset that ‘the customer is always right.’ It’s actually quite brilliant, who is the customer or client you really want to work with? Who will get the most value out of what I do?

I think you’ll enjoy today’s episode, especially the three take-aways from Chapter 26.  Enjoy!

  • Mike’s Mind: Resisting Resistance (Episode 309)

In this episode, I talk about resistance, or more specifically, resisting resistance.

I recently read a couple of books by author Steven Pressfield.  The first is The War of Art, and the second is Put Your Ass Where Your Heart Wants to Be. I became very enamored of this resistance thing, which both of these books are largely about. In his mind, resistance is the thing that we all need to be able to overcome, or to achieve not only what we want, but to keep what we have.

Pressfield describes resistance as a very powerful force, like a gravitational-like power force, sort of; its sole mission is to keep us from achieving what we want to achieve, keep us distracted from achieving what we want to achieve.

We all know about this thing called resistance – we might call it different things, we call it laziness, we call it procrastination, we call it fear, we call it all of these things.  And we all need to overcome it, whatever we call it.

I hope you enjoy this episode.

  • Mike’s Mind: Ditch the Ditches (Episode 307)

In today’s episode, I talk about “ditching the ditches.”  Have you ever thought about the purpose of ditches along the side of the road?  Other than to prevent unsafe accumulation of rain water on the roadway surface, what is the purpose of a ditch?

If I’m driving along and happen to see that a car has driven off the highway and into the ditch, assuming there are no injuries, it reminds me of life.  I remember that almost every road in life has ditches on either side, and while you don’t want to end up in a ditch, they do serve a much greater purpose in life, which is to let you know when you are veering off course.

Lots of things in life can help put you into a ditch – problems with money, relationships, habits, business, family, neighbors, additions, self-image, and happiness are just a few examples.  The trick to keeping yourself out of ditches is to see, acknowledge, and deal or get help with your problems before they take you off the road you belong on.

I hope you enjoy this episode!

  • Mike’s Mind: My Peace is My Property (Episode 305)

In this episode, I talk about my “Peace” being my property.  My Peace, P-E-A-C-E being my property.  I recently came across something called “The Art of Peace” written by Morihei Ueshiba, who was a Japanese martial artist, and the founder of this discipline called Aikido. This gentleman lived from 1883 to 1969. And the Art of Peace is a collection of teachings by Ueshiba. One of his teachings really resonated with me, and made me realize that my happiness and my peace start with me.

It’s very easy to blame someone or something for things that are not right in our lives and wallow in self-pity, but the truth of the matter is that my peace is my property.  My property, my inner peace, my happiness, how I feel about myself, I am 100% in control of what I determine and choose that to be.

I hope you enjoy this episode!
