The second of a series of five theme talks on 'Living at the Edge'. John Naish is a 'cradle' Unitarian, baptised (as the certificate calls it) at Brighton Unitarian Church in the 1960s, where he nowadays conducts wedding ceremonies. He worked as a mechanic, a bookie's boy, a factory machine operator and an insurance claims investigator before taking a degree in philosophy and English, and then blundering into journalism. For most of the past quarter century, he has worked as a health correspondent, interrupted by stints as motoring editor and property editor at The Times. He has written for most national newspapers, as well as periodicals such as Prospect and New Statesman. He now writes mostly for the Daily Mail, as well as being a columnist and road tester for motorcycle magazines. He is also a board member of the Inquirer, and has published three books.
