In the year 1881, eight men met in the streets of Tombstone, Arizona and began to blast away at each other with their six shooters. If it were the modern day, we'd call this gang violence, but since it happened 140 years ago, it's wacky, fun Wild Wild West type stuff and therefore historically relevant. In this week's episode of HPH we're taking you through that shootout, all of the things that led to it, and the fallout that ensued. Grab a drink, throw on your earbuds, yell at no one in particular that you are coming and hell's coming with you, and enjoy this episode of Hundred Proof History titled Shootout at the OK Corral: Kurt Russell Lied to Me!
Last week we told you about the first year of Lewis and Clark's journey toward the Pacific Ocean. This week we're taking our own little meandering journey through the minds of two drunken degenerates as they also tell you a historical story. Yes, this week Greg and Chris had a lot of fun, and the result is a compelling story, ridiculous running gags, and a jumbo sized episode that is sure to entertain you during this bleak 2020 winter. Grab a few bottles, plan on having a hangover that forces you to call in sick to work tomorrow, and enjoy this episode of Hundred Proof History titled Lewis and Clark II: Are We There Yet?
In 1803 two men would lead an expedition across the United States in search of a waterway passage to the Pacific Ocean. The journey wouldn't be easy because they decided to travel by boat rather than taking a plane like a smart person would do. In this week's episode of HPH we're taking a look at the origins and first year or so of the expedition. And just like these guys, we take a few long and winding paths to get where we are going. Grab a drink and settle in for this episode of Hundred Proof History titled Lewis and Clark Part I: Boats and Bros!
The year was 1429. The place was France. The country was in the middle of a war with England that would rage on for 116 years. It wasn't going great for those who supported the disinherited male heir to the throne who not only had to deal with the English, but a large faction of the French who wanted to give that throne to the child king of England. Yes, everything looked bleak until a resilient, faithful, brave young woman showed up with a message from God. She'd lead the king to power and, as a reward, would be burnt to a crisp multiple times. This is the story of that time and place and that girl we all know and love. Grab a drink and enjoy this episode of Hundred Proof History titled Joan of Arc: Deep Fried Debutante!
Last week we took you through the exciting high seas adventure that was the first voyage of Christopher Columbus. Sure he didn't actually find India, China, or Japan like he hoped and he wasn't even the first European to find new land west of Europe, but hey we should still celebrate him as a hero because of....something. Well maybe this second part will enlighten you as to why he deserves to have everything named after him. Just kidding, it's just three more trips and a whole lot of human suffering. Good times. Grab a drink and settle in for this episode of Hundred Proof History titled Christopher Columbus Part II: What a Nobody!
In this week's episode of HPH, we are taking a look at a guy who has become a controversial figure many, many years after his death. When you were a sweet, innocent, gullible child you were probably lied to about his accomplishments. Now that you're an adult, and so hardened and cynical, you've probably found out that he wasn't squeaky clean and was probably responsible for a whole lot of atrocities. You've probably already figured out that we are talking about Public Television star, Fred Rogers. No, dummies, we're talking about noted explorer and holiday namesake, Christopher Columbus. In this series we're doing our best to give you all of the facts and let you make up your own minds so grab whatever adult beverage makes you the most contemplative and enjoy this episode of Hundred Proof History titled Christopher Columbus Part I: Wet Farts.
